I'm trying to record via a logitech usb microphone using ASIO but whenever I switch to ASIO, my sound goes out and I cannot hear any kind of feedback from the program at all. It only happens in FL because I can hear and watch youtube videos just fine.

I'm able to record when in ASIO mode, but I have to switch back to Primary Sound Device every time I want to play it back. The "in" section lists my microphone for the input, but the "out" section says "Not Connected 1 - Not Connected 2 when I'm in ASIO mode. I'm using an hp laptop if that's any help.

Is there any way to fix this?

I've had quite a similar situation. I also have a laptop of HP and I tried to record, but having no feedback. The thing I changed was, I installed a different audio driver. There's a basic audio driver and an audio driver that standard installed. If you google around, I'm sure you can find it. That's what fixed it for me. (note, It only fixed feedback on my analogue port though - didn't need feedback for my USB mic -, but I think it's worth a shot)

Lol, I was using sound recorder, that just might be the problem, anybody suggesting Audacity?

Because you mentioned Audacity, I assume you're working in Windows (XP or Vista? Or something else?)

Anyways, Audacity should do the trick. Also, it's possible you set the sensitivity of your mic too low. You can change this (in Vista) by right-clicking on the volume icon in the system tray. Choose "Recording devices" (or something like that, I don't have an english version of Windows) and then select the mic and hit the "properties" button. On the second tab you can configure the sensitivity.

Tell me if this works.

Be original. Make music that will draw the people's attention when they listen to it. Mind that I not say "make good music". Just be creative. You'd be surprised with how for you can get with that.

Like they told you, don't be afraid to experiment. I've made a few crappy songs, but I've learned from each and every one of them.

And for another tip: when you're making music, try to think as a musician and a music-lover at the same time. Try to reflect often on what a listener would think of the tune.

Just a quick note to say it will probably take a week for me to come up with something decent. Honestly, I'm afraid of just ruining the tune with whatever I put onto it, but I do know that if I try hard enough, something decent will come of it.

Just so you know
Cheers

Another basic question: are we allowed to add notes? This sounds like something I could do so much with to be honest. But if you want me to stick to your guitarish scores, no problem.

I'm gonna have a go at it, too, but I probably won't be finished with it for the first couple of days. Just so you know that you're not the only one in here ;-)

A lot of effort don't make a good song. Neither talent will. A catchy tune cannot be defined by that and therefor it can sometimes be made in something like a few hours and still be a great tune. When you rate music, you should rate only the music, not the artist. Good music is not the same as original music, mind too.

On topic: I record my guitar & keyboard on my laptop with Audacity and put'em into FL to mix with some other synths/base/drum etc... Also, I put my guitar through an extra equalizer in FL, which often makes it sound a lot better.

Thanks for your help, but I found another way to solve it. I have a friend and he told me that I should fish around in my old drivers (as it used to work correctly). And indeed, when I installed one of my old drivers, I got the sound back through the speakers! Yayzors for me :-)

Anyways, still thanks for your help. If I hadn't found something already, I'd surely gone for one of yours :-P.

And yes, my little GNX3 is capable of recording. Don't you just love him? =D

Thanks again!

Topic: [Vista] Mute mic feedback feature

Ello thar!

The problem I've got is the following:
I want to record some things I play on the guitar, but I can't hear whatever I play on my laptop. Here's what I got:

I've got a guitar (w00T for that one), a GNX3 "Guitar Workstation" from DigiTech, and a laptop. I connect my guitar to my GNX3 and from there I put the headphones-output (on the GNX) in my laptop line-in/mic input.

My sound gets to the laptop allright, but the problem is that Vista/My audio driver won't play it. It's a feature called "Mute mic feedback" or something. I simply can't disable that feature and because of that, recording has become a lot harder.

I've googled around for ages, but couldn't find anything helpful. If you have the slightest idea on what could help me, please do reply.

Greetings,
Hadriani
