yah halo 1 was bad. but the other ones cleaned it up
I disagree. I think that Halo 1's campaign was the best in the whole series. I never felt that feeling of pure fear and intensity that I got from playing Halo 1's campaign in the rest of the series. Halo 2 just felt like a simple romp across maps, killing foe after foe that aren't that really challenging or intimidating.
However the music, the environment, the models, and the behaviors of the enemy completely creeped me out back then. Just walking across a snowy bridge was pretty scary. Invisible elites armed with menacing energy swords, and creepy flood human forms with rocket launchers that can kill you in one hit.
Also the last level in the first game was amazing. You're taking on three foes at once, the covenant (now with their best forces including spec ops grunts), all forms of the flood, and the angry sentinel. After the intense fights across the familiar but completely opened up and crippled ship, you drive for your life as all three factions fight it out. Then as the last seconds tick by you rush towards the longship and you feel an extreme rush of accomplishment. Something I've never felt in another video game before other than wining "Mile High Club" on Veteran. I didn't feel nearly as much accomplishment in Halo 3's ending, completely ignoring Halo 2's crappy cliffhanger ending.
