that happened to me once then I figured out it was the fact that I had plugged in the tab AFTER starting up Photoshop...I unplugged the tab, exited PS, plugged the tab back in then restarted PS and it worked just fine.

this might be the problem? or not...

in most cases, simple is better and often more visually pleasing---too much attention to detail can sometimes clutter your illustration. these characters have a quirky, odd look that just appeals to me. Unique is the best descriptor.

you already have the initial pre-requisite and that's talent---all you need to do is keep practicing, no matter what. try to learn more about your art everyday and never quit trying to learn new techniques.

I like it, the style is fresh---but some "sensitive types" may see this as derogatory or stereotyped, oddly enough.
