Thinking of picking up 'The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born' series. Seperate issues, hear the graphic novel form left some stuff out. Read the main books already, know it's just a retelling of one part of the main novels but still looks interesting enough. Unless anyone has anything really horrible to say about them XD

I can't say I've ever had the chance to really get a complete series of anything. But I haven't really tried, at the moment I am going for every Ultimate Spider-Man series. But it's going slowly not that I'm complaining, After the whole one more day (of doom and death and I'll never stop complaining about it.) I can say I was a bit turned off of the original series (though I do still keep track of it and whats going on of course) Got into the Ultimate Continuity and I can say I'm absolutely loving it all. The small changes and the big changes it's like a whole series of 'What If' really.

And Spider-man always has been my favorite even if the main continuity is giving me some headaches as of late.

Can't say I cared for every bit of Final Crisis... still after countdown pretty much anything else looked fantastic =D

What? He is that ill liked? Never knew... though if I had to guess It's no so much what he does with characters so much as looking like a real life Lex Luthor.... seriously. Still I can't complain about his work... just his evil plots to rule the world.

But of they had three of them in a row, one was an excellent story and mystery (Identity) one I think started strong as hell and the build was excellent, but kind of fizzled at the end (Infinite) and one had terrible build, but the finished product was fun and a rarity in super people comics in that it was ABOUT something, but far from being a masterpiece I believe (Final). So I can understand completely where DC did a real re-think here.

Suppose if they pushed them apart more and gave them all better thought they could have all been amazing. Of course that can be said for nearly every botched storyline in any series by any company... well okay ALMOST any storyline ^^; some storylines are just to horrible to be good. Or characters for that matter.

I tend to wait for the trade on this stuff, and since the JSA will be dragged into it, and I'm a completist for that team I will most likely read this series.

Well hope your able to at least enjoy it when you finally read it. Even if you don't end up thinking of it as amazing as long as it keeps ya entertained =)

I still have to catch up on how he got the Thunderbolts job, which to me seemed like "wait, the fuck? The man was unmasked, he's a convicted murderer!!!" but the ascension to HAMMER and all made sense since think about it. That guy is heralded as the bad ass cop keeping you safe from people with abilities that the regular cops can't do shit about. Then he goes and stops a fucking alien invasion that the super heroes got pantsed on, and Tony Stark got rendered useless by. It makes a lot of sense that from the perspective of a certain slightly retarded presidential administration that they'd put Norman in charge. However it's a bit of a stretch to think he'd be given unlimited "no backsies" type powers which the comics have told us he seems to have.

I do suppose I can see Norman over certain other characters, but there is still that lingering 'why him?' in there I think. I'm all for second chances... but not in a position like that of all things. Heck I'm sure the storyline itself will be great but part of me kinda wishes they had made him genuinely good and kept it that way. It'd be interesting to see how it'd move along as I'm certain that certain people would never end up trusting the guy. But yeah this works too even if it is a bit confusing over that position of power.

I do like that they aren't playing it from the bits I've read like he's totally being evil, he has a plan and in his mind it's not just "super villain party hour" he's really trying to build a safer better world...it's just his twisted vision of what that means.

Yeah usually better when there is more a reason behind something outside. "Why? Because I'm evil thats why!" As crazy as Norman can be I don't think he's so out of his mind that evil for the sake of evil works for him. The idea of someone wanting safety and order at the cost of certain rights seems to work well for him. Just cross your fingers they don't mess it up.

Of course a few will have to be killed first, but that's probably where we're going here. It just seems like DC trying to go back to a "safe" super hero type story after Final Crisis didn't work for them the way they'd hoped.

Well it is DC after all... not sure if that was being to harsh on DC or not. I just tend to expect the safe stuff from DC more than other areas. Still safe as it may be maybe it's a good thing safe and predictable as it may end up being, better than another 'Crisis' crisis.. in essence.

Could still surprise us and things could go differently, but I do expect that your right. Still I'm going to read through it and see how it all goes none the less. Just so long as they don't use this as an excuse to keep certain characters alive after the story is finished.

He's got an evil avengers!!! Criminals in charge!!!! The Initiative will host classes on how to steal from those you save!!! This to me just sounds like good old nasty comics as fun.

I still can't believe they put Osborn in charge to begin with it seriously baffles the mind that anyone could let him get into that position. Still yeah reading up on it a bit more it is looking to be something nice. I'll certainly have to start getting a hold of it.

Dead DC heroes, some of them unjustly or stupidly killed (like Earth-2 Superman, who I KNOW from solicits is being raised, or members of the original JSA) are going to be ressurected to vex and hurt their counterparts? Sorry, it just doesn't work for me. It seems like the idea is to do something like an in-continuity Marvel Zombies. Which is just a bad fucking idea from where I sit, and is probably gonna wind up being fairly predictable.

Well yes there are certain characters I'd with they leave out though I imagine they probebley would have used a different set of characters if they'd been able to do the storyline when they had originally wanted.
I know it's used somewhat a certain amount that it could be somewhat cliche'd but since unlike the marvel zombie universe where it ends with the world in ruin, you know the heroes will win out on this. So to me it's not so much old characters beating on the living ones so much as the living heroes having to deal with fighting there fallen friends, families, and loved ones.
Not to say I enjoy the idea of seeing people that used to care about one another fight, just you have to admit it plays out for a better battle as far as difficulty goes. I will admit when I imagined what Darkest Night might have been this wasn't exactly in the 'could be' area of my mind though.
I'm aware this could eventually just go into the crapper, but at the moment I'm hopeful this will work out. I could be wrong but I pray I'm right XD

I think it's a neat idea, highly political though and cynical about the gullibility of people, but the bits I've read thus far make it seem like nasty fun times.

Yeah I really ought to check it out. I mean anything with 'good' old Norman at it's center is more than likely good enough XD

Don't think anyone replied to this, and yeah in my opinion Blackest Night is looking insainely amazing at this point. Can only hope Dan Didio doesn't put his paws on it in any way. Just hoping they just give Geoff Johns all the leeway he wants and let him do it his way. (He's wanted to do this since the late 90s after all.) Just glad to still see the Lanterns are still going strong after the Sinestro Corp. War storyline.

Can't say I'm looking into Dark Reign however. Suppose I should look into that a bit more...

[Sorry I haven't been faster replying... other things keep taking up time for me it seems.]

"Then we go for the staff, the humans won't be of much trouble. Leave the most painful for last, as I said I'm not in a mood to cause trouble until it's absolutely needed. Last thing we need is to be attacked while seeking other components." Baal turned to loom back at the village, and nodded to the others to fallow him.

He'd only hope that the two parts closer to the other lords wouldn't be as much trouble as he was expecting. Anubis truly was dead, but he'd be foolish to believe that would make things easy. As for Midnight... he'd hope not to have much of a confrontation being the only lord still at full power. They'd have to plan this out well and think before leaping, if indeed it did come down to something other than a retrieval.

Lilith was still smiling but seemed to be holding onto the necklace Animus had mentioned, looking as though she didn't want to give it up. Her eyes glazed over as she fallowed Baal as if she was lost in her own little world. Though only those who didn't know her would think she wasn't still alert to her surroundings.

"The supplies will suffice for now thank you Animus." Baal said rather low tone. "It is about time we start to push forward. Finding the 'artifact' is going to be a painful ordeal in it's own right. But it will only be the start of it all."

Lilith just stood by with a quiet smile as she watched the others speak. Keeping to herself for the moment, her mind still recovering... well as much as someone like her could recover at the least. She was still as cracked as she used to be, but that had always been a good thing before.

"I don't suppose you have any word on where it may lay Animus? I'm sure you know that right now I'm not very well informed considering where I've been, I'm going to have to rely on you a bit more than usual.. at least for the time being."

"Yes Animus, the humans are doing rather well for themselves since we...'left'. Certain they won't be expecting any attacks when things are put into motion. Not that they'd offer much resistance ether way of course."

Baal looked over the supplies that Animus left. "I'm rather shocked that you didn't have much trouble with what you had done however. Suppose the others were left more weak than I expected them to be."

Baal looked for signs of life in all directions till he spotted what he believed to be small bits of smoke in the distance. He made his way through the snow he eventually came across a small settlement, though not wishing to raise any fear in the humans he made sure to keep well out of sight. Making a few mental notes about the people there and if it would be worth converting any of them at a later point.

He smirked lightly as he turned to head back and see what progress had been made by Animus.

Baal nodded to Animus. "Yes I'll be fine... I'll meet with you after." He then turned the other way as Animus went off and swam to the surface. The ground still covered in snow as it always was, the winds howled a bit and the sky dark as ever. Baal always found himself lucky to have been able to claim such land as his own. How many other places in the world are nearly always covered in darkness after all.

Still there were matters to attend to... finding what humans remained on the land was one of them.

Though if you'll excuse me, I believe I simply have far to much to get done and despite my own span of life far to little time to do it all." Baal turned and nodded to Animus

He closes his eyes, reaching across the continent to the Frozen North with his mind. Ah, Baal, it's wonderful to see that you've awoken! This is your old friend, Lord Midnight...I trust you remember me? he asks Baal mentally.

Baal shook his head "Midnight? I do hope this isn't how you greet people these days? Sneaking into there heads? I do hope you're more careful, lord only knows what someone might be thinking at the time." He chuckled lightly. "But non the less it is good to hear you, I wasn't sure what to expect when I came to... it wasn't a stroll in the park mind you being down there."

Baal blinked for a moment, and looked around him and then his eyes settled back on Animus. It took him a moment until his mind settled completely. He spoke with a soft voice "As much as I'd love to simply raise citadel as soon as possible, I think a castle showing itself without warning may raise to much unwanted attention. I'd rather things go unnoticed until it's to late for anyone else to do anything."

"We need to locate others... assuming we have anyone left aside from the two of us?" He inquired.

Baal blinked for a moment and looked around him, cracks begun to appear in the 'sky' and 'ground' around him, and the taste of something he'd long forgotten had appeared upon his lips.

Shattered the darkness that surrounded him, only to waken inside a box. It was broken with relative ease, and as he climbed out he saw in front of him a familiar face... though the name escaped him his mind still a bit of a blur.

Noticing he was surrounded by water and curious as to why he was not drowning... memories started to slowly flow back into his mind. The madness and uncertainty the darkness had plagued his mind with begun to fade, and a small smile grew upon his face.

[Oh Chaos how I wish I'd spoken to you before this started. Wasn't thinking and no real clue where to begin myself heh. Gonna have to wing this start me thinks, though considering you said resting place when it came to Baal I'll assume he's a few feet under at the moment.]

Darkness, everywhere he turned and it seemed to go on forever. He'd lost track of time, his only company had been his own mind which had slowly begun to crack. Forgotten was how he'd come to this place... had he died? Perhaps he was waiting to be born?

He kept on trudging along as he felt he always had... what was his name? Did he have a name? Was this some form of hell he was in? Or is endless darkness simply where everyone truly ends up when it's over.

Revenge.. yes, that was something he held onto... it was one of the few things that kept his mind in line. His mind had broke more times than he could remember in this place. Though for all he knew it was lost to him at this very moment as well. It wasn't easy to see the difference between sane and insanity, not in this place. After all... he couldn't even remember who or what he felt this deep seeded hatred and thirst for revenge was.

The only thing he was certain of was this truly was not heaven, and the gods be damned if he ever found his way out.

Yeah, the purpose of the whole averted apocalypse thing was to provide us with an excuse to do the jump, that way new people don't have to read through hundreds of pages of story. Only the basic mythos Lundi, LKnight and I were working on is still in place, so you don't need to know the history of every nation or anything like that.

Well that is good, as I barely remember what even the original story used to be anyway. So yeah I'll do my best and hopefully jump into this again. Let me know if I should be aware of anything, I'll try and skim through the last few pages anyway.
