I've got a HIS H679F1GD Radeon HD 6790 in this tower, it's great when the fan isn't all rrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeee (bearings or something) and it does that a lot...I can't figure out if I want to RMA or try an aftermarket fan

indie game bundle and stuff Posted February 29th, 2012 in Video Games

i was crusing around the web a week or so back looking for sites like gamefly/steam/amazon where I could snag some cheap pc games for download and I came across this site

it's one of those pay what you want ($1.00+) / for charity kinda deals. I'd never heard of Groupees before but I figured I'd give it a go. Payed 3 bucks and got all the stuff listed there. 6 games and DLC for one of them, some free music that I haven't downloaded, and possibly a few other things if they reach the next donation goal. Figured some of you cheap bastards might appreciate the link. Sideway Ney York was worth the 3 bucks on it own.

crap, I missed the part about others turning to dust and i must have forgot about the one kind of food/drink thing after reading through everyone's posts. I'll still take the food spawning, save me a ton on groceries.

Event Horizon was a fantastic movie that I'm not sure got much attention. To this day I can't understand the hate for Howard The Duck, I loved it as a kid and went back not long ago and watched it on netflix and it's still awesome.

Response to: You get one power, choose wisly. Posted February 12th, 2012 in General

as long as the food spawning is unlimited, instant, and not restricted by your own culinary knowledge I'd take that. Open a restaurant with an infinite menu and make infinite profit.

To the guy who said delete the first gas engine or guy who created it, it would only be a matter of time before someone else came up with the same thing.

Response to: HD Remakes Posted February 8th, 2012 in Video Games

Being able to play Ico again and Shadow Of The Collosus without all the terrible frame rate drops, 3D, and HD was totally worth rebuying some old games. The Sly Cooper games also held up pretty well, and I need to grab the MGS collection soon too. If they could go back and dig up the original high-res renders of the backgrounds and sprites (I assume they exist) for Abe's Oddesy and Exoddus and give us a re-release of that...mmmm. The only one I've had any kind of problem with so far was Earthworm Jim HD because the audio was off, maybe that's what the original master recordings sounded like but it just wasn't right.

At 2 minutes ago, Corky-D wrote: You mean the 4 pin connector on the actual mainboard? Since when has that been for the PCI-E?

If you turned it on and it worked then there shouldn't be any problem. It wouldn't work with enough juice anyway.

Well, if it still worked after drawing power, like when running a game, then yeah.

most newer power supplies have a 20+4 pin power cable for the motherboard and everything I've read says that those last 4 are meant to deliver extra juice to the pci-e slot. I shouldn't be worried, so far as i know you can't burn out a component by not giving it enough power, but still.

pc upgraded...but Posted February 8th, 2012 in General

just upgraded my hdd, ram, OS, and installed a video card (Radeon HD 6790). CPU is still a bit on the weak side of things: Athlon II x2 245 2.9ghz, I was on a budget so it'll do for a while. Here comes the "but"

In my rush to get new components I totally spaced on a new PSU...I've got a 480w 20pin non pci-e power supply in the tower, so I'm missing those last 4 pins for the mobo that are meant for powering the PCI-E slot. I hooked up the video card anyway and used the 4 pin x2 to 6 pin adapter that came with the card to power it. It seemed to work but I got paranoid and took the card out and went back to integrated graphics and ordered a proper PSU from Newegg that with luck I'll have Friday, but It's shipping today from Jersey to Missouri so I'm thinking it's probably going to end up being Monday. *sigh*

So , here's the question. Is it safe to run the card on the 20 pin or should I wait for the new power supply before pushing the card at all?

Response to: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Posted February 5th, 2012 in Video Games

I'd love it if they'd make the horse a bit more functional and not just a way to fast travel while carrying too much stuff, being able to attack from horseback would be super nice.

I do have a question about the voice acting within the game, has Bethesda always been so all over the place with accents? Skyrim is my first venture into the Elder Scrolls games. Take the Jarl of Whiterun for instance, thick Nordic accent and then you run into his little jerkass kids who are obviously American...Or the talking dog from Jersey. The inconsistencies in accents kind of kills the immersion for me.

How did I forget about Dragon's Lair? I did so now I'll say Dragon's Lair, and Space Ace. I never beat either one but I pumped a hell of a lot of money into them. I also have distant memories of playing the original Star Wars game with it's monochromatic pseudo polygons, the trench run was pretty badass for it's time.

Eh, a nine year old doesn't need a $250 portable gaming device, and I'd rather only be out $130 when it inevitably gets broken. If I was to buy a Vita it would be for myself and since I don't find much time to play video games while I'm out and about, I won't be. Getting an older system there's also good sized backlog of cheap games for him to choose from.

Thanks for the ideas, gents.

I was planning on picking up a psp tomorrow for my son's 9th b-day. Obviously he'd like some games to go with it. I was thinking about Eyepet and Little Big Planet. What are some games that you'd call must haves for a younger gamer?

I used to steal quarters from my dad's change dish and ride my bike down to the video store and play the shit out of Afterbuner. The first time I saw Virtua Fighter in an arcade in Okinawa was pretty amazing. The shooters were aways my favorite though. Gunblade NY and Silent Scope stand out as my major quarter eaters, and the Neo Geo 4 in 1 machines.

well, according to eharmony and match.com tv adverts they are for beautiful and affluent people who are too busy to meet someone. But I'm thinking more often than not they are for people who have spent too much time in front of a computer and have forgotten how to function in real social settings.

Response to: Remakes worse than the original. Posted January 31st, 2012 in Video Games

What was bad about Mass Effect 2 on the ps3? was it because they couldn't get their hands on ME1 since Microsoft owned Bioware at the time? From what I can tell from reviews it's the same game across all platforms aside from having the migrating saved game after beating the first.

After a brief play of Street Fighter 2 HD remix, I'd have to say that was worse. It was prettier sure, but it just felt clunky and I didn't enjoy it at all. It could just be that I'm remembering the original through my retro fondness filter. Also Mortal Kombat 1 when it ported to SNES censored all to hell.

Response to: Xbox 720 won't play used games Posted January 30th, 2012 in Video Games

Microsoft will probably make a big push for digital downloads over physical media. Releasing games online the same day or earlier than at retail and maybe offering it cheaper? Hell, they may even take an approach similar to On-Live with their streaming games. In that sense they'd take a big chunk of disks out of circulation that could otherwise end up at places like Gamestop, and you can't re-sell downloaded content. But the total killing of the used game market I doubt.

They've done some stupid stuff before (releasing with a known fatal design flaw comes to mind) but I don't think they'd be so willing to cut so many prospective customers out, especially if another console still allows pre-owned games. With so many titles being released across multiple platforms they'd be hard pressed to give you a good reason to stick around...unless, and I just thought of this, if they pulled a PS3 Portal 2 kind of move and give you a free copy of your Xbox game for a Windows PC. That may be enough incentive for some people to stick around. Anyway, It's all rumors at this point and I'm not taking any of it as anything more than that.
