I heard there is a plugin called Telephone.dll that works pretty good. But i don't want to spend $5 on an effect that might not work very well.

So can anyone with experience in Audacity tell me how i can achieve this effect? Or link me to a free plugin?

If your software allows it, then resample the audio clip to 8kbps. This technique is a little more advanced and if you could do it, you'd have a more authentic"phone talk" tone and you'd save CPU power by not having to EQ. Let me know how it turns out.
