It would be a constant visual reminder to the mother of being raped, the kid would grow up with the psychological damage of knowing it was the result of the rape, the mother would have to go through the pregnancy and the birth, this all seems a bit of a harsh thing to expect them to do on top of being raped in the first place.

I guess it comes from arguing with people on forums who have had those opinions pretty much word for word except they've been completely serious.

congrats on making a sweepingly generalizing accusation, and with just the right pinch of racism and discrimination against the disabled. Well done. Who gives a shit about people at the bottom right? They're all out to take your hard earned cash, and the money from all those innocent eye-wateringly rich aristocrats who are enjoying tax breaks. Taxing the rich more than the poor may seem unfair on the surface, but wealth inequality in the US is a serious issue. Do you think its not a problem?. It's an incredible slight of hand that people have managed to play, that draws anger and attention away from those at the top who are responsible for the financial crisis and redirect that towards the ones at the bottom struggling to get by on the measly handouts from the welfare state.
They advocate for animal rights, placing the importance of 'protecting wildlife' above the needs of the economy.
In my opinion both parties in the US aren't doing enough to combat wildlife and climate change, there's still a notable minority who are trying very hard to influence the public that climate change isn't a problem or isn't caused by human production. If you ask me America has consistently avoided signing up to any international measures to combat this like the kyoto protocol and are spearheading the movement towards irreversible damage to the planet.
They advocate for higher taxes on success, as punishment for contributing to society.
What's the alternative? Tax the CEO and the worker who cleans his office the same?
They advocate for the dismantling of the traditions which built our society.
I'm guessing your referring to gay marriage or something. Don't argue with soundbites.
They demonize the military which protects us.
Don't even get me started on American foreign policy, I'm sure I have stuff I should be doing instead. From memory I think America spends more on Military than the next 27 countries combined, something like that. Theoretically I don't have a problem with that being cut, especially in the current economic climate.
They advocate the legalization of drugs which destroy lives and turn people into lazy hippies.
Now you're just being a stereotype yourself. And just to throw it out there, isn't limiting the involvement of government into people's private business a good thing? The government that governs best governs least right? The war on drugs, especially cannabis, has been a catastrophic failure ever since it began. Period.
They want to make it a criminal offense to own a firearm for defense against criminals.
Definitely not getting dragged into the gun debate again, I can already sense TonyDG getting a hard on over this. From what I followed in Washington the biggest proposals they were advocating was mandatory background checks.
It's pretty easy to see this as pure insanity from a conservative perspective.
Actually it's pretty clear from what you've just said that the perception of liberals by opposing individuals is so drastically hostile and misinformed it's no wonder that politics in the US has become polarized and dysfunctional.
From my point of view where I come from the democrats are a right wing party and aren't even close to the older definition of liberal, republicans are extreme right wing and the tea party are off the scale.

I often find this weird american definition of liberal confusing. It seems to just mean anything that their opposition does that they don't like.
I was actually thinking of reviewing this when it was in the portal before it got blamed. You've got a decent, very watchable design style, what you need to is add some substance, some movement, an idea, sound etc and then you'll have a much better end result :)
Generally there will be a meet up thread floating around for a while first, I don't really know how structured the organization is for when / where they happen but as Viper said its worth PMing Luis if you're seriously interested because he's instrumental in all the meet ups. I've been to a couple in Manchester and personally I thought that they really were brilliant, it definitely makes you feel more connected to the newgrounds community and I've got friends now who I met first met at a meet. Whoever said meeting random strangers off the internet was a bad idea! :3
Yeah, if you get into the deepness of our existence on a tiny infinitesimally small spec in a universe which will ultimately destroy everything that anyone on earth has ever created then yeh, it is pointless. But that's a pretty negative and nonconstructive way to look at the world.
All your existence is going to be involved with it the present moment, and I guess all you can really do is try and enjoy that experience, however brief, and aspire to contribute something for the next generation. Ultimately yeah, all life comes to an end, but why does that fact have to implicate that you can't enjoy yourself while you can? You get to eat burritos and stuff.
What you're self diagnosing is a part of the human psyche that applies to absolutely everything in life, people want to work on their animation, go to the gym, study for exams, but actually doing anything like that takes discipline.
For me I often have the same feeling when I have the original invigorating spark of an idea, then it gets lost in the tediousness of drawing 40-100 inbetweens, but that's what separates the hobbyists and the professionals. There's not a magic formula really, you just have to force yourself to do it.
Some tips I would recommend are -
1. When you're animating, focus completely on your animation, don't have youtube, or facebook or music playing. Try and get in the zone.
2. Have a stopwatch beside you as a visual reminder of what you are doing, and also to time yourself so you know when is the right moment to take a break.
3. Focus on an idea that actually holds your attention / motivates you to keep at it.
If you're into the satirical and borderline retarded political commentary I'd recommend the bugle, it's really not for everyone and I'm not sure if it will translate well with an American audience but it's probably the only podcast I consistently keep up to date with - burp

Hey Jim,
Your flash is really impressive for a first attempt, you're definetely showing a lot of talent.
It might be worth remembering that we have a Animation Forum that might be more useful to ask for feedback in rather than the General forum. If you posted this topic in there you would probably get some more constructive feedback. :)

True, and to be fair I shouldn't criticize the game before I've actually played it. However this game was explicitly referencing Sandy Hook whereas picos school wasn't overtly referencing anything so I don't think the comparison works.
Most importantly I guess I'm thinking about the pros and cons for each group here, and in my mind without a doubt I put more value on the feelings of parents who have lost their children over the disappointment some people will feel by not getting to play a game on newgrounds. As someone else has already said they will still people able to play this on another site, just not here.
I can't believe people are giving you shit for this Tom, it sounds like you made the right call, although I can't say that with 100% confidence since I'm not familiar with the game you're referring to.
I guess sometimes you need to draw the line between what is harmless, immature, or childish and what is malicious, tasteless and offensive. My sympathy is completely with the parents of the Sandy Hook victims, who are undoubtedly going through hell right now. It's the least you can do for them to remove a silly game that is causing them heartache.
We don't need active 2 threads as similar as this..
I think changing the law on organ donation to an automatically opt in on death rather than opt out out would be a better idea.

Agreed, this sounds like an incredibly cold hearted idea.
I tend to go once or twice a week to the gym which really isn't enough considering I spend the rest of my time sat behind a computer usually.
I generally do gym, swim sauna which takes me around and hour and a half to two hours, sometimes I'll do weights or specific machines but generally it's cardio.

It really pains me to see a fundamentally good thing for america being botched up by the Obama administration. Getting the website running effectively was something that was always going to make or break this law, and they really messed that up, and now they're doing a U turn and saying that people who like their health plan are probably going to lose it despite making promises to the contrary? Unacceptable. I don't think the ACA can survive both of these hits. It's unusual for me, but I can definitely understand the republican animosity on this one.
A part of me has been wondering if this has been a deliberate move by the insurance companies in order to rally support against the ACA and therefore encouraging a return to the unregulated market that they enjoyed before in which they made a killing. Or maybe the ACA has just been impossible to formulate effectively when it has been fought at every turn by the republicans, from what I understand they won't even roll it out in red states. But I really can't put too much blame on that, I think at the very least Obama shouldn't have been making promises about the ACA he couldn't keep.
Like I said, I think healthcare is one of those things that you should cover for in the welfare umbrella, I know not everyone will agree with that, but it's a better thing to put tax dollars towards than a over zealous military. And it pains me to see the first chance America has had to benefit from this being completely flunked by the Obama administration, they may not get another chance like this for a very long time. I'm going to watch the developments on this periodically, and I won't be surprised if it takes a hit in the next election run.
You're always going to have a problem when free speech clashes with social etiquette. Although it is perfectly legal and inconsequential to use the N-word, the connotations and emotional stigma attached to the word is such that you are only going to cause trouble if you use it thoughtlessly.
I've studied Eng Lang at college, and one of the elementary fundamentals you are taught about language is that words and definitions are in a constant state of flux, and words are always adapting to meet the needs of their users. Maybe one day the N-word will lose all it's impact that it has today, maybe when racism has been reduced to levels where we can be more open and less nervous to offend someone, but until then it's probably wise not to go shouting it around.

Hey Brandon, I admire your up front honesty, but I think that you're really going to struggle to get a decent animator on board for a long, difficult project like this without offering any money at all.
One of my fav animator's Stephen Silver has a explanation that I think is relevant - imagine the easiest job in the world, a job that requires no skill, that even an 8 year old could do. It could be something like mowing the lawn. Now imagine asking for someone to come over to your house and mow your lawn without paying them any money at all. You wouldn't think of it would you. Animation is a skill that not everyone has, it requires time, practice and hard work, not to mention the software is expensive. The majority of animators don't have the time to do their own projects, so they almost definitely won't be willing to give away their time for free on someone else's idea.
Maybe you should take the time to work on this project by yourself? That way you're in control of the direction. Good luck with it

Hey guys,
I've got a project in the pipeline that needs a really strong voice actor to complete it. I've spent a few weeks on a decent storyboard, and now I'm into day 4 on the layout. Before I go any further I think I'm going to need some voice to work with so I can get timing in the animation right.
The voice will have a super-hero theme to it, and you will need to be able to act a mid age, male, lazy/tired character. More details will be given to those of you who PM me ;)
I'm not in a huge rush to get this project finished, so I'm probably going to take submissions from people for a week or so. I'd rather spend a while finding the right actor rather than just go with the first person who responds.
This is probably the best project I've done to date, it should be a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to reading through any responses I get to this :)
Good luck!

I'm not saying my country is perfect by any means, and I challenge you to find a comment in this thread up till now where anyone criticizing the US has tried to big up their own country at the same time. In my first reply to this thread I even stipulated that every american person I've ever met has been great, and I don't hold it against the citizens whatsoever, there is a disconnect between the american people and the american government.

1. Those countries keep their hands clean?
2. Why does it matter where somebody's from as to whether their opinion has any merit?
3. I could just as easily say the only people defending America being the most hated country are all Americas, it doesn't mean anything. It's a pretty trivial point in the discussion.
4. I like making lists.
