What's The Best Daw In The World... Posted September 24th, 2012 in Audio

...Today???

If you haven't already, cast your vote here (hopefully yours is listed): http://beta.musicradar.com/news/tech/whats-the-best-daw-in-t he-world-today-561994

This article was featured on, you guessed it, FL Studio's FaceBook page on Saturday, and perhaps for a good reason; FL Studio won last year's poll posted by Music Radar. I don't know when this poll will be closed, so cast your vote as soon as you can!!

This thread is really one to send a message to those who may want to participate in a poll of these sorts. If you have comments on which one you think is the best, I recommend sharing it in the Comment on Facebook section of the article above; if you don't have a Facebook account, go ahead and address here what you believe to be the best DAW in the world, and please have some good supporting reasons why!

[buy Or No Buy?] Super Slim Ps3 Posted September 22nd, 2012 in Video Games

Well if the PS3 wasn't slim enough, you interested in the Super Slim PS3? It's price isn't much different from the original 160 GB one (let alone that of the upcoming Wii U's)....why is that? Maybe because they're SONY!

SFM for Mac??? Posted September 19th, 2012 in Video Games

Hey, if you've heard of Source Filmmaker, that's great. What isn't so great right now is that it's not supported on Macs yet.

I personally thought, "no big problem, I have BootCamp-Windows 7 for that". Unfortunately, this didn't work out all that well either, because even my MacBook Pro which I got last Christmas had it's Intel HD (I know, "Intel" hasn't been grealy associated with true graphics cards) Graphics 3000 chip unsupported by Source Filmmaker (which is still in BETA!).

I hope Valve will be able to work on fixing this, because I'm sure a lot of TF2 for Mac fans, want to make machinimas as much as their Windows equivalents.

On the side, I'm hoping that other Source games outside of TF2 will be available to use in SFM (GMOD fans may hate that).

I ask you, the PC ppl, is SFM seem like a worthy app at the moment?

Response to: Wii U release date/price Sept 13th. Posted September 18th, 2012 in Video Games

At this time, I think the price of the Wii U will be the least of our worries, lads. Sorry to be a buzzkill, but it looks like with the HD age comes HD pricing.

That 49.99 game pricing that Microsoft and Sony seemed to had coveted about the Wii, is going to be fading out when Nintendo's new system is unleashed on the masses

And don't look to Walmart to be your hero this time around.

It's a cryin' shame that we have disc games...DISC games that have prices that easily rival that of the N64's back when it was bringing the fight to PlayStation and Saturn. There was always talk about how discs were always going to be cheaper than cartridges, but I say now that if this is JUST going to be the default pricing ofWii U games , I don't even want to *think* about the average MSRPs for Sony and Microsoft's next gen consoles....

Hurry up Valve and show us "how its done"...
Pso Or Soa's Final Dungeon...? Posted September 17th, 2012 in Video Games

*warning, possible spoiling info ahead!*

I pondered this today: if you had to choose between the final dungeons of the Sega Dreamcast's Phantasy Star Online (Ruins) or Skies of Arcadia (Soltis), to make your way through in real life, which would you choose?

Both game's final dungeons are very similar in type (ancient with a surprisingly advanced technology environment). If I had to choose, it'd be a tough choice, as there are things in both final dungeons I would've wanted to explore in more depth, be it the outside of the first part of Ruins or looking up at the main tower in Soltis from the final hallway.

I think I may like to go through Soltis more because it's such an incredible looking place (at least the last part of it). Ruins feels a bit too dark and eerie for my tastes (I'm sure if my avatar had feelings, he'd have been drenched in sweat standing in the middle of the 2nd level for at least 6 hours; I had to go to bed, sorry, but I'd be darned if I had to start all the way over!).

If you've played either of these games, I'd love to hear what you think.

MegaTen Series Turned 25 on 9/11! Posted September 17th, 2012 in Video Games

By now we've seen a lot of 25th anniversary celebrations for Final Fantasy and Phantasy Star...

Meanwhile, back at ATLUS' camp, may have had their own celebration, as the first MegaTen game came out on September 11th, 1987! Crazy, no? Megami Tensei or MegaTen as its more popularly called is older than Final Fantasy and Phantasy Star.

Heck, both Final Fantasy and Phantasy Star will not technically be 25 until December 18th and 20th, respectively.

On a side note, depending on what you define as an "RPG", the oldest Nintendo RPG would belong to either Legend of Zelda or Dragon Warrior (both games were released in 1986, though LoZ was out first that year).

So, anyway, if you're a fan of Megami Tensei, Digital Devil Saga/Story, Shin Megami Tensei, Devil Summoner, or Persona (and/or Maken X if you believe that it belongs in the MegaTen universe) and weren't aware of this...NOW YOU ARE!!

On another side-note, the only MegaTen game I ever played was SMTIII: Nocturne (again unless you'll count Maken X); I know, playing arguably the hardest of em all as the first one ever (I stopped after The Conception, so I didn't really play it play it).

Piano Roll Mode In Tmidi Player? Posted September 15th, 2012 in Audio

Hey, I was wondering if it's possible to activate the piano roll I've seen in a YouTube vid or two that featured TMIDI Player. I can't read Japanese all that well, so I don't know what anything says or how it really works.

If you have image capture software, that would be a great help!

I've given it a try maybe once or twice. One thing I really admired about it was that it had a clock you could check in full screen mode, just to make sure you know what time it is and such. I don't know of many other DAWs, let alone any others that have a useful feature as that!

Are you saying Garageband or Logic would convert certain loops to MIDI? Well, in the Jam Packs most of the loops already do that. Sorry, I don't quite understand your question.

I apologize for the confusion I seem to have given readers.

Basically there are 128 General MIDI instruments in total. The proprietary MIDI engine I propose would "replace" the sound of all of those 128 with the GB/Logic equivalents (Grand Piano, Timpani, Choir), when a MIDI file is played back.
(like having all MIDI files being played back through a Roland Sound Canvas 88 or Yamaha MU 50); it'll sound more "CD-quality-y", and less "MIDI-y".

If Logic/gb Powered Mac Midi... Posted September 13th, 2012 in Audio

Would you buy it? Sure it may be expensive, but would you buy a new Mac whose MIDI engine used GarageBand soundfonts (this includes all JamPacks)?

One can already convert MIDI files instruments to GB instruments, with a simple drag 'n' drop, but what if aside from General MIDI (and XG and GS), there was a proprietary audio chip developed by apple where MIDI playback would use exclusive Logic/GB instruments/synths/soundfonts instead? Does it sound like a worthy buy or no?

Just a thought.

Response to: Wii U release date/price Sept 13th. Posted September 13th, 2012 in Video Games

I watched the preview video for the Wii U today a couple hours ago, and have for the most part liked what I saw.

The Wii U will be released in North America on Sunday November 18th, 2012.
If you live in the U.S., Auz, Black Friday will be right around the corner, thus a significant drop in prices.

And contrary to some possibly popular belief, neither set will retail for $599 U.S. Dollars!!

The basic set will retail for$299 and the deluxe set will retail for $349.

I felt so certain that with all the power that this console has been claimed and/or shown to have that it would be the most expensive console of its generation, but I predict I'm going to be quite wrong when Microsoft and Sony release their next-gen consoles.

I'm excited to hear about things like the Nintendo TV thing and the new IPs from well known publisher/developers like SEGA, EA, and Activision; big name corps like Square-Enix, appeared to have been absent/silent about the possibility of any game, let alone a Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest title coming to the console. I predict that at some point we'll hear our ever delayed titles like Versus XIII and KH 3 will show up on Wii U, perhaps no sooner than 2014.

Seeing the HD graphics that we've long associated with PS3 and Xbox360 appear on a Nintendo console with the demo of Black Ops II, was pretty awesome, but I'll hope that the final product's visuals will be tweaked even further!

Response to: tell me your worst moment in a game Posted September 12th, 2012 in Video Games

This is a tuffy but I'd have to go with getting a super high score in that o e chain reaction game that's featured in a Simple Machine Forums Arcade (think it was at least 5 figures) and hitting the retry button instead of the save button.

I had no way to prove I had such an astronomical reaction score because of that, and never made it back to that score ever again. Other forum members would continue to dominate the top spot, but still not as high as the score i didn't save.

Lightning Returns: Ffxiii... Posted September 11th, 2012 in Video Games

Is this game, like XIII-2 before it, a Versus XIII time-buyer, a milking of the Lightning story in FFXIII, or a real legitimate conclusion of a piece of a previously delayed compilation???

Aside from me wanting to call "Lightning Returns" "XIII-3", I personally think that we may never see any sign of progress with Versus XIII, let alone Kingdom Hearts 3.

I suspect even ppl like Ali Hillis who tweeted not so long ago her news of just finding out about the latest sequel, may not feel all that enthusiastic about starting work up again, with barely a year between releases of XIII-2 and this game that's expected to be out just next year. Though I guess if Squeenix supplies the mammon, she'll have next to no choice.

So honestly, what do you think? Is this game out here to dull the feelings about Versus XIII apparent delay history, and are you looking forward to getting a copy of this game?

Overdue for a reboot/ remake. There's just somethin about dis game...

This certainly was an interesting game, though I can't say that the "remake" that was released on the PlayStation 2 was as great as the original in some respects.

Sure you'd get more FMV cutscenes and perhaps more story or RP elements, but the new 3rd person perspective animation has been described as "clumsy" by some reviewers.

If a new major remake is done, I'd want ATLUS to go back to the first person perspective, or make a balanced interchangable view that can shift between 1st and 3rd person, and give it newer graphics, and retain all the new content from the PS2 remake, and perhaps have the story make more sense to the gamers.

Those seem like some of the Dreamcast's better titles but I certainly wouldn't know that for sure.

Honestly, i think that there are some nice things about remakes, but often the remakes or ports of original Dreamcast games isn't all that well. I've read a review or two on the Dreamcast Collection, and they weren't all that happy. Some graphics may look nice, but other things about the graphics may seem to be worse off than the original (Soul Calibur comes to mind), Skies of Arcadia Legends may have had a whole lot of new content that the original game had, but the music quality took a dive as the GameCube failed to emulate the Dreamcast's Yamaha Super Intelligent AICA audio chip.

If anything, I'd highly recommend you stick with the originals, if you can.

Happy Dreamcast Day Posted September 9th, 2012 in Video Games

Today, the North American SEGA Dreamcast turns 13 years old. I got my Dreamcast on Christmas Day, and for me it was well worth the wait!

Here are the games in my DC library (games recieved at Christmastime in bold):
Sonic Adventure
Armada
Dynamite Cop
Blue Stinger
(really had to ask for this one; it became my most personal favorite)
Dreamcast Generator Vol. 1
Web Browser 1.0
(not really a game but it was awesome to use for games and internet)
Crazy Taxi
AeroWings
Shenmue
Skies of Arcadia
Maken X
Sonic Adventure 2
Soul Calibur
Speed Devils
Phantasy Star Online ver. 2

I had a MadCatz light-gun, but was only really useful for the House of the Dead 2 demo on the Dreamcast Generator.

I still play Dreamcast today, though not as much as I'd like to.

Let's celebrate. Share anything you'd like about Dreamcast, be it positive or negative, just remember to keep it fun!

56 Drum & Percussion Soundfonts... Posted August 19th, 2012 in Audio

FREE!

Earlier this year I went on a Johto journey to find a specific type of drum soundfont (which I still haven't quite found, yet!), and came across this collection provided by flstudiomusic.com. While these soundfonts may all work in FL Studio, they aren't all restricted to use in FL Studio.

I was able to use quite a bit of these in GarageBand, and am rather happy with a lot of the things I've heard (from those that worked of course).

Basically if you're in need of a beat solution, I highly recommend having a look through this vast library.

The selection is rather broad, though it seems not much can be said for the presence of any orchestra related percussion. In my case, it's okay, as I already have an orchestra drum kit from a GarageBand Jam Pack.

I used some of these soundfonts in a recent project for a friend, and I do say it was rather fun making a drum/percussion only number.

Enjoy!

I was looking on http://djtouchbeats.com/garageband-for-windows-7.html and they suggested a whole bunch of 'DAW' programs which are meant to do the same thing but they all seemed really complicated and I've used GarageBand once before which seemed easier.

Can anyone suggest something as close to GarageBand as possible but would work on Windows or is there a way to run GarageBand on a PC with emulation or VM for example?

Thanks!

I suggest looking into giving MixCraft a try. It's about as close to GarageBand as I think one can get. Here's a tutorial on YouTube that complements the latest version.

This is a very major act of hypocrisy, and ppl in Nevada and abroad need to flood his voicemail and e-mail about changing his now-corrupted mind, and QUICKLY. He as well as Obama and Helicopter Ben know that if allowed on the floor, the Senate would pass it.
