hey ppl, I did a mix of a song with a new set of headphones, and was wondering what ppl thought of it. Can't upload to Newgrounds at this time, so hopefully it'll be all right if you can hear it on SoundCloud.
Oops, the title of this thread was supposed to be '"Read The Rules!" is Unattractive", and somehow my text from my Paintbrush app or something got copied into the thread title! Ah well.
After seeing so much red today (no pun intended) in this [audio] forum, I think it's time a change was made in not only this forum but other specialty forums.
When I got on here recently, I had wondered why the rules seemed to be ignored so often, and I eventually put two-and-two together and realized that the Audio forum rules aren't obviously present for the forumers to see right away.
Next to the "Create New Topic" button is a button that says "Read The Rules!". It is what this button links to which I believe is perhaps the root cause of why many threads are being locked lately.
The button links to the General Forum Rules for the entire BBS community to follow, *not* just specific to the audio forum. There are people that most likely will overlook the Forum Specific Rules
With this overlooking people are most likely going to ignore or not care about the link, as they may not know what it's meaning is, unless they clicked on it.
Going back to the Newgrounds rules wiki main page, most people when they see this from the Audio forum, may only see the general forum rules as what everyone has to follow when they post in the forum, not the Audio Forum specific rules, which could easily be looked over, depending on how thorough and/or patient the reader is.
In the past I've made many propositions/solutions to help prevent such innocent breaking of the Audio Forum Rules (which can only be found after either spotting the "Forum Specific Rules" link, or scrolling down the left-side menu to find it, after clicking on the "Read The Rules!" button.
This new idea may work as it goes to address the location and adherence of the [audio forum] rules directly:
Since this is the Audio Forum, new Audio people should be able to find and access the Audio Forum Rules quickly and easily, before they post. Instead of a button that says "Read The Rules!", we need a button that says something like "Audio Forum Rules: Read Before Posting", and/or have the button link *DIRECTLY* to the Audio Forum Rules in the Newgrounds Wiki.
The button should also have a different color scheme (like green, to reflect the Audio portal), to better get the user's attention, before he or she posts. Also I'd suggest a positioning towards the center, as people like myself may have their eyes more attracted towards the center and left of the forum area, and then dart up to the upper right corner to post (maybe test this out?), most likely ignoring the rules button.
Also if possible, make a sticky thread ("New to Audio Forum? Read Our Rules!) in the Audio Forum, that will serve as a reminder to look at the Audio Forum Rules before posting, including a LINK within the thread that directs all those interested in posting in Audio (for the first time or whatever) forum.
The Benefits:
- New Audio forum users will see that the Audio Forum has its own rules
-New users will know where to post their content, if the rules demand it.
-All users will know what is and what is not allowed to be discussed in the Audio Forum
-More yellow and gray thread icons, and a lotless red!
Overall, I think the general forum rules are great, but have a stronger priority in non-group specific forums. or more specifically the ones that aren't listed in the "Forum Specific Rules" section of the NewGrounds WIki.
This idea may not be perfect, but surely it will be much better than what we have now. I'm not writing this for me, but for those on this forum and other forums with specific rules, that can't be seen right away! It's for the forum moderators, 'specially the audio ones, whom are mad as hell about having to essentially be a broken record to virtually every other new thread posted.
Please consider this an open letter to the Fulps and all in charge of the structuring of the Newgrounds website. If you like, you may make a copy of this post, and forward it to the site admins (Tom Fulp and Wade Fulp, am I missing anyone else?) with your own words or ideas even, including those who are regulars on other group-specific forums that see a similar problem.
For the "TL,DR" ppl, here's a picture that sums up this post....

There may have been, but I never knew of it, or seen it. Upsetting news ppl: The Ableton website has taken on a new format fairly recently and now I can no longer find any of those complimentary packs and sets that Ableton hosted for its Live 8 users. If anyone can find that page again, great.
The site's been pretty much taken over by Live 9 and Push promotions.

Garageband
I usually don't try to take sides in forum discussions, but this is something I completely agree with. It is funny when one thinks about it, that when a music making seeker person sees the name "Fruity Loops" they, may run after it for the sake of using [pre-made] loops, and when one sees "GarageBand", they may think making music with guitars, drums 'n' such.
The irony is that the initial start-up of either is essentially the polar opposite, unless of course you KNOW what you're doing.
I had a headache trying to even think of where a loop was, let alone how to make my own in Fruity Loops Studio, which is why I, myself like being able to have a piano already set-up (default selection), before I even look in the loop menu direction, which I naturally close.
GarageBand has all sorts of power within, that can help make anyone feel great and/or professional. If there's not enough resources inside to satisfy, there are boatloads of SF2s and expansion packs out there which can strengthen your use of GB.
On a side note, FatKidWitaJetPak, when you have time, would you mind adding a background on Ableton Live to your VST/AU thread? That software is becoming my second home to make music with.
If anyone has a spare hour, and/or has trick-or-treating going on, check out this tune. I talked with the uploader about having this extension ready just in time for Halloween, and hopefully fellow SoA fans, if there are any on this thread, will appreciate this!:

Garry's Mod can now be bought individually? That's cool! I'm a bit confused though about what songs you'd think I want remixed: mine or someone else's..

It will be available in Ableton Live 9. I'm not sure it will be the automations you're talking about, where you can can automate the built-in properties of the synth itself outside of effects like compression and delay, but I'm hoping for both our sakes! ^-^
Hey that's great, I guess. Ableton must've been listening. I'm now ever anxious to see if these will be the automations I want.
And yeah, I really want to control those dials in session view so badly now, while recording, I can't stand it! Hurry Ableton, please make a lite version of 9 ASAP!

He said "MixCraft", not "Magix". "Magix" is the one piece of music software that was exceptionally noted as banned in the WIki.
Whichever software you prefer to use, the following Wiki article can help in determining what you want/need to do what you want/need: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_multitrack_record ing_software
It's not every piece of software out there, but it'll give you a good idea just how many DAWs and audio/music making products there are around the world.
I am sooooo scared right now. They'll give us the long-awaited Episode VII, but at *what* cost, huh?! Why Lucas, Why??!?!

The whole "Premium", "Soundtrack Edition", and "2013" editions confuse me. I am going to be experimenting with hip-hop and techno mostly, but I want to experiment with other forms of musik. I don't know which to buy.
So what would you guys say ? Anyone here use magix ?
I don't use Magix, and I haven't really heard of it until today. Assuming that you use Windows as Magix is a Windows-only music application, i recommend giving MixCraft look at as well.
On the preceding link, there's a place you can download a trial of the software, to see whether or not it's right for you. Acoustica's website also features video tutorialsthat can help you become familiar with and in time make beats with. It has an interface and workflow similar to Apple's GarageBand music software, which at least I thought was nice about it. It's arguably one of the most in-expensive pieces of music software you can find to get started in music production.
If you were a member of SoundCloud during this past spring, Ableton had a free Ableton Live Lite edition offer for SoundCloud users that they could use unlimitedly. The offer is now over, apparently, but new deals may arise on SoundCloud in the future, so if you're not a member now, I highly recommend registering an account there.

In fact you already see majority of people agree with the current setting as KISS. And your solution won't change much, I honestly think.
no matter, I've already sent Tom a request to consider it.
also what do you mean by "KISS"?

Download the mixes the uploader made, you'll find them in the video description.

Thanks for your comments, these are some interesting replies. The sub forum is there to make light of the HOT topics I mentioned in the original post. The forumer will still have the option of going to the general audio forum from the main page, and there doesn't necessarily have to be visibility of the sub forum from within the general forum; I'd just picture someone thinking "I need help doing this one thing in FL Studio...(user looks for Audio-related forum and spots "Ask your fruity loops questions here", on its subforum)...sweet, I love this place!" or "I got an album on iTunes now, where should I--(scrolls down forums and spots "Audio Advertisements" thread under Audio subforum)--hey let's check this spot out! (reads over what the thread's about) I'll post it here!"
That's the type of scenario I'm driving at here.
Just to clarify, I'm aware that the settings of a software instrument can be automated in real time from the arrangement view while recording, but have no effect if you try to record an automation you want to be done on an individual clip in session view.
I love the session view feature of Ableton, and being able to record scenes you want in a particular order, and whatnot, though it would be nice if I could change the settings of a given instrument for a clip or so at a time, but at the same time not have to record it in arrangement view first.
Well maybe almost. I didn't make this video, but it's really interesting how it's apparently true that not all digital audio workstations are created equal.
This man mixed a song of his in three different DAWs: Logic, Cubase, and Pro Tools. The difference is somewhat striking. He also has audio files of the mixes he did in all 3 for you to download and compare outside the video.
What a difference.
Sorry that he couldn't demonstrate in other popular DAWs like FL Studio, Ableton Live or Reason, but I think the ones he did demonstrate are pretty interesting and deliver a really neat message.
The song funnily enough talks about the similarities and differences of DAWs.
I found it rather educational on perhaps helping prospective DAW owners determine what they want to use to create, mix and master their music in, aside from other variables like ease of use/workflow.
We've got corrupt governments, politicians, economists, false-flag planners, and power-hungry oligarchs here in the States; and you're bent out of shape about a far east Asian country that tries to be unique in how they sell sex, or make movies about schoolgirls jumping in front of an oncoming train, or making animations that not even HBO/Cinemax/Starz would have the balls to broadcast?
<-----meanwhile, this guy's still waiting for a "The Legend of Link" game.....
Who's heard of the Puzzle Agent games? I learned of them after completing an iPhone game called "The Heist".
Has anyone completed both games with an overall Top Agent rating before repeating any of the puzzles at the end of the games?
What an awesome series of games I tell you. I hope a third one's on the way.

Oops i-Mortal is an audio mod, I apologize for that error.
The Forum mod roster in the Newgrounds [Rules] WIki is lacking. And if it's not updated, some may suspect h4x, even if the so-called mod is listed at the bottom of a forum menu!
Don't know whose in charge of the Wiki, but updating is needed!
People like Back-From-Purgatory and The i-Mortal may be [new] forum moderators, but why not max the authenticity by keeping the Wiki area updated?
NewGrounds isn't a large staff like JaGEx, who can update on the fly, I understand, but it'd be a real good idea to have someone with a dedicated WIki role, so somebody don't get all suspicious and stuff.
Let's make a subforum section for audio.
Three common topics that often result in locked threads here are DAWs, new songs/albums and auditions/job offerings.
With subforums, the user can immediately see related threads ("Ask your fruity loops questions here", "Audio Advertisements!", etc.) from the main forum menu, and if possible inside the audio forum at the top in a menu separate from the more general audio discussion threads.
Because the Fulps appear to see stickies as off the table, I think this could be the next best thing, that could have a following in other forums on Newgrounds.
More visibility, less red, more happy fun tyme!
Thoughts? Please discuss!!
I noticed in the rules that this thread doesn't yet exist, so I'm adding it in today (yay for spearheading two DAW threads!)!
We all have questions and answers, so that's what this thread is for! On top of that, anyone is welcome to discuss various discoveries, tips, tricks, customizations for Live here as well!
I initially had a question myself about if it's possible to automate instrument effects in session view to clips instead of directly recording to arrangement view, but there may be others around here with that same or similar question!
I personally don't know all there is about Ableton Live, as I've just started using the Live Lite SoundCloud edition from the summer of this year, so I won't always have the answers you need. My best advice is waiting for other users to answer the questions I can't answer, or finding a video on YouTube that could answer your question (this has worked for me 9 times out of 10).
Happy conferencing!
Love him or hate him, Julian Assange and his website, WikiLeaks, had fairly recently been designated by the United States government as "enemies of the state", for their documents leaking critical military information.
This has essentially made Assange and Wikileaks the new bin Laden and Al Qaida, respectively. Not really thrilled with this news as from what I've gathered, Assange didn't hack for this information, mere whistleblowers within the U.S. military shared this info to Assange's website (the whistleblowers themselves have also been declared enemies for sharing what they know with Assange and WikiLeaks).
We are looking at the death of freedom of speech, as well as a twisted perspective of the Freedom of Information Act here.
If you just want to go right to the announcement, just watch this.
all right! I guess it would be more fair for Music Radar to do a poll on "What's the best music making program in the world?", as this would include MIDI sequencers, trackers, digital audio workstations, and video game composing software (that includes YOU, Mario Paint composers!).
