You ARE kidding, right?
I'll bet it's some prefabricated hoax using some sort of witchery like forced perspective or CG compositing like in the movies.
So it looks like Nintendo and Mega64 are pretty good buds these days...
Looks like we've got an epic comeback on the way!

And is there an easier way to record me playing with the VST without having to do it live?
I'm gonna take an educated guess: you're an FL Studio user. If you indeed are one, ppl here will most likely know how to answer your question.
The reason I say this is because, everyone that comes to this lounge most likely will use other music programs that aren't FL Studio, thus their advice may not suit you as well as it should.
For example, if I assumed you were a GarageBand user like myself I'd probably reply with something like:
"All instrument tracks have individual compressors. Unless you're working with the master track, the compressor can be either enabled or disabled for any software instrument track. You can toggle the compressor on/off in each instruments Edit tab."
I'm not sure I could answer your other question regarding VSTs, as I don't use them...all that often.

Now NG was created on 6 July 1995... which means NG's 20th anniversary falls on 6 July NEXT YEAR!
I wonder what we can do to hype up the excitement for it... I was envisioning some sort of massive audio, art and animation collab, but I'd like to hear your thoughts.
Sounds great! I have no ideas right now, but a collab definitely sounds like a step in the right direction!

I was recently alerted to this guy "Daniel Harris" stealing my song and selling it on Itunes and stuff. He even went as far as to get it copyright protected so now people that are using it on YouTube are getting messages saying it's protected. THIS IS NOT OKAY.

Can Newgrounds get involved in this?
That's not all he stole.
I recognize the name and image of his album Inferno. Unless he's gotten ahold of Namco, with permission to use a piece of their intellectual property (a Soul Calibur character) as his album art, for commercial use at that, he could be in even more hot water if they get wind of this.
The audio programs I use are:
GarageBand: Because 1. I use a Mac computer, 2. it's the first Digital Audio Workstation I ever worked/dabbled with 3. It's the first one I feel at home with and enjoy working with
Ableton Live (Lite): Because 1. It can be used in Mac and Windows. 2. It's fun and as interesting to use as GarageBand, and 3. It's the first "pro" DAW I feel I like the most of all the ones I've ever tried
Audacity: Simply because programs like Live don't export to .mp3.
I have used FL Studio, but always as a demo. I'll use it from time to time to experiment, but never really use it as a serious audio program.

What the hell is even "Mandatory Overtime"? The very definition of overtime is that it's time over regular hours...
That's a term I had to come to grips with my first day on my first job 7 years ago, here in the states. At least my job at that time was pretty "laid back" on how it did those mandatory overtime Saturdays. You could wear street clothes, listen to your own music....still had to keep your rates on the hook.
What I think mandatory overtime has to do with any worker is to meet deadlines, or break even for a company that's in a real crunch. If we didn't come in, it'd be more of a consequence for the company than it would be to us, because then the company would be behind in meeting its target or demands of its clients, thus NO ONE'S getting any compensation in the long and short of it, if no one comes in that day. Sure it doesn't seem fair to get dragged into something like that, but it's always been about the profits, has it not?
It may be more complicated than that, but that's the impression I had.
Could I get specifics on how short of a piece you're looking for?

How well tagged is 'cinematic' exactly?
Seeing as i make a score/soundtrack atm and its the best genre to put it under..
However compared to previous uploads that i tagged with like videogame or classical, i get pretty much 0 coverage all of a sudden on this.
That's a great question, Calamaistr. I shared one of my most recent tracks with that tag, and have just come to the conclusion that cinematic, well at least these days isn't (and thus shouldn't) really 100% associated with just orchestral performances. Like the evolution of [video] game music, cinematic music has become very broad in scope, though in the end it's how the genre of music (rock, classical, pop, hip-hop, etc.) is implemented/created that breathes life into the movie (or game).
Yes, cinema and game music today are practically hand in hand in going beyond sounding like just Bach or Super Mario Bros. Overall, it's good that Newgrounds offers many genre tags for our music to fall into, though ones like cinematic and video game are virtually the same (it's simply just how the listener would interpret how your song would fit one of these tags that makes all the difference.).
It depends on the day for me. I actually wish that at least one of these DAWs today had a feature that records the amount of time you spend on a project.

Remember, this is all opinion, so please keep calm if you don't agree with someone. Thanks.
Like free stuff? So do I!
If you've got a Mac, chances are you already have GarageBand (and hopefully NOT the new 2013 version!) on the computer (on your desktop Dock, or in Applications folder). If you want free software for just live recordings, check out Audacity.
If you have either PC or Mac:
Ableton offers a 30-day free trial (or in some cases, if you've purchased certain audio hardware from places like M-Audio, you get a copy of Live Lite (what I have)) of their entire Live Suite.
Steinberg's Cubase also has a 30-day free trial (and yay, no USB e-licenser!).
Pro Tools' free trial however, will require you to get an iLok account which requires the purchase of their USB iLok key. Not so free, eh? That's Avid's protection of their "mainstream" software for ya...
Propellerhead allows you to download Reason, but in demo mode (meaning there is a limitation or two you'll have to deal with for as long as you use it). It had mainly something to do with saving projects if I recall correctly.
Reaperlet's you try it free out for 60 days, and if you like what you get, the pricing's arguably one of the most affordable you'll find for a DAW.
In PC:
Image-Line places a similar limitation on FL Studio in demo mode, where you will not be able to open whatever projects you've saved.
Trying out Cakewalk's Sonar X series, was not a real cakewalk in my opinion (I tried X2), but maybe that's changed with X3; unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a trial for X3 at this time. From my experience with the X2 trial, I wouldn't recommend it. Cakewalk's apparently had such a hard time with it's releases getting pirated and such, the tutorials at its Sonar Universitywon't be of any help, because neither the tutorial files nor the requested plug-ins actually exist in the demo!!!
Fun fact: if you're willing to just wing it (given you're willing to part with [at least] $100), and already have Steam on your computer, you may be pleased to know, it's available for purchase there.
until today, I had no idea that DAWs like Sonar were purchasable on Steam! how revolutionary! /sarcasm

New year, new experiences, same smudges.
If Luigi's year was last year, that's really tragic. The reason I say that is because this man [originally] gave him a voice.
Man where to begin...
Well if you think my 2010 stuff is in any real chronological order, you be surprised! Before GarageBand, I wrote my ideas in manuscript books. My first GB work was "transferred" from said manuscript book, but I never got to finish it, as I felt dissatisfied with the instruments I had available at the time (I think it was around 2007). It was for a future major console project that's essentially on hiatus at this time. I haven't finished it to this day (a screen title theme).
About a year later (2008, I believe), I started from scratch with another song that became the first I ever actually completed, and shared. At the time I didn't know much at all about GarageBand, but actually felt satisfied with what I did (without ANY pre-recorded loops, can ya believe that).
As time went on, I was asked by friends to do some tunes for their projects. I think I felt driven the most to make music, even if in hindsight it wasn't of the best quality, for the sake of these projects. Some of the songs you hear in my Audio library were going to be used for those projects, which may or may not still be in progress.
By late 2011, I was making more original tunes with no connections to any projects of any kind. At the same time, I feel I lost some drive, though I did begin to understand how to make use of GarageBand better. In some ways I think because of a slightly less drive, that the songs don't seem to have the same soul as my earlier ones did, but perhaps that's just me.
From time to time I listen to my earlier stuff, and sometimes can barely stand to get from end to end...however it seems that despite what I think, there are still ppl here on Newgrounds that had liked my early works enough to download to their computers, and I suppose I could feel some satisfaction from that. Basically: beauty is in the eye [and ear] of the beholder.

Saw it and felt more excited about the fact that the franchise is back in time for it's 60th birthday! It certainly raised quite a few questions in me about what's going on, and where does it go in the end.
'Twas an intense watch, and I felt it was one of the best trailers I *didn't* skip in ad form on YouTube.
For those who've seen it, what are your thoughts on it? Would you be willing to see it next year, or no?
Christmas Day
This Christmas was leswl. All my gear's back in play, though I had to spend quite awhile getting hgethvryei updated.
vReetlais I hadn't seen in awhile were in attendance at ourytrap, also getting to see that the Turbo game proves that even the 3DS can't escape "PS1" graphics.
Checked out the collaborative Christmas video gift thing from HalcyonicFalconX & -cPak-Bruogty-Fomar, and thought it was pretty cool.
That's all theogdo stuff I'd like to emak note of. Hopefully everyone else had some high notes about their holiday seasons!
