I don't know what you mean by "purely digital music production", if that define "music that sounds completely digital" then, those plugins might be too "analog-ish", but if you mean "music made in digital DAW but that needs a bit of analog warmth" then those might be the answer.
Worth a look on Don't Crac[k], they have very often some discounts on Nomad Factory plugins.

Thanks for this. As a SONAR X3 Studio user, this suite is already included. To further clarify my question, I don't really use any live audio clips in my music. So from what you're saying these plugins will simply give my music a more retro analogue sound. If that's the case, then I get it.
If you have it and/or are familiar with this dynamics suite, I'd love to hear from you about determining which compressor/limiter/expander/gate plugins would be best appropriate for purely digital music production.
At this point, I think it's time I start to retire.

I was gonna say something like that, too.
First come, first served they say. The Purginator is serving well.
I have OpenMPT, though I don't really use it. I considered it to be the PC equivalent of PlayerPro (Mac), if not better.
I have a lot of favorite tracking artists from the demoscene and games: ArchAngel (both Ronny Nilsen and the one from Norway), Nemesis (of KLF and Renaissance fame) , the late great Richard Joseph, ManiacsofNoise, Chris Huelsbeck, Prob/Probe, 4Mat, Patrick Phelan, and Purple Motion...and so on.
I assume by "Amiga" you're referring to The Ultimate SoundTracker by Karsten Obarski (the one that started it all).

I don't think so. I believe your thread actually came first, though it was probably canned for how it's original post didn't seem very neutral in what Microsoft did, than anything else. SCTE3 may have also judged on number of posts to our threads, I don't know. "Hate" sounds like a pretty strong word, in any case.
What I DO know is that until that locking, I thought SCTE3 only had audio moderating powers.
LloydeSorrow, I've asked myself this question for years. And, as some have already said here, this question can be expanded beyond just RPGs.
For the longest, I've actually heard that (and in some cases seen interviews) game composers like Nobuo Uematsu and Yasunori Mitsuda are arguably more Western sounding than contemporaries like Koji Kondo and Koichi Sugiyama. But honestly when you get right down to it, as others have indicated oddly enough, it's all a matter of influence. All of these Japanese composers mentioned above and otherwise all had multiple influences. Sites like SquareEnixMusic, GiantBomb, and maybe a[n accurate reliable] Wiki or two help give good ideas as to what influences their style be it flamboyant or catchy or exotic.
Culture and tradition can play a role in it, and I guess if you really just go on a journey and investigate Japan's history and approaches to classical and jazz music, there's hopefully a clearer answer to this question.
Likewise, there are most certainly Western composers out here and there, that sound undoubtedly Eastern/Japanese in their style, and there shouldn't be any shame in how someone makes their music.
People like Matt Uelmen and Jeremy Soule (especially Jeremy Soule; he's been on the record for saying long ago that game music at one time "lacked drama or intensity"; thus the cinematic/hollywood approach to [Western] RPGs arose), helped shape what we hear overall in the Western side of RPGs, and certainly their shape was influenced, culturally or otherwise. Y'know, for Western background music, I respect Uelmen's work, as I've found myself being able to hum the whole Diablo soundtrack from title screen to Hell, from memory. I think the secret is, as some may have noticed, is that the vast majority if not all the tunes share a common motif or theme somewhere within themselves. Eastern influence? Maybe.
Yes, you read correctly. Microsoft just recently bought the MInecraft creator for 2.5 billion US Dollars.
Your thoughts/opinions?
I don't play the game, but I do know of people who have, and I've seen what's possible with the software. Can't say I completely understand Microsoft's idea of independence for the company here, but rather acknowledge this as major support for Mojang's vision(s).
On the [really big] flipside, at least the distribution of Minecraft will not be limited to Microsoft products.
Got a few gems here and there. Most of my best stuff are my covers, metinks.

I come with a question that some of you might have pondered upon before.
How similar is too similar? When does "Okay" become "Shameful"?
So you sit down to write something thematic, right? You're pumped, your creative juices are running. OKAY. IT'S GO TIME. LET'S DO THIS.
You write a minute of music. You're...actually happy with it.
It has a sense of familiarity that you really like. Like you've just evoked a feeling that you've heard evoked before, and you did so in an effective manner.
And then it hits you.
*I HAVE heard this before... OH SON OF A ...*
Turns out, you Kinda copied a theme. Not identically arranged. Not a 1:1 copy of course. But parts of it are very similar.
What do you do?
Yeap, I've had that happen to me before. The subconscious is an interesting beast, yes? There's an artist out here whose work I've become such a fan of, I've caught quite a few of my projects echoing his style, and it was on accident! I guess it's something when you find your work emulating someone else, and you DID NOT intend for it to happen.
A more blatant version of this is what I call "Single White Femaling", where you're so obsessed with someone's work and style...and success, that you not only wanna sound like them, you want to BE them.
Last year it was kinda the reverse for me. I wrote a lengthy tune that had a slow half and a fast half (3:58), and many months later hear a song (1:56) from a smooth jazz compilation vid, and am like, "hey, this sounds familiar...OMG! My song!". I swear I never heard of the artist nor the song, but the key, style and progression were so incredibly similar, I was blown away. Moreover, that tune came out 20 years prior to mine, so I'd sound like the copier, not the other way around.
so yeah, there probably will come a time when copyrighting music will seem...dumb, because like many have already said here, music has its limits, at least on *this* planet.

Hey Sonar/Steam ppl, If you got Sonar X3, Cakewalk is promoting a 50%-off sale for upgrading to Studio or Producer on the Steam store.
Hurry! The promotion ends August 14th.

I just want to make an original song with some of Nintendo's Super Mario World ROM instruments.
THAT'SSEGA. Every company has a different philosophy when it comes to property protection. Square-Enix made claims against a couple of my Final Fantasy related videos (one of which was *never* made public).
It'd probably be harmless to share your work unless some meanie decided to report your sharing(s) on NG to Nintendo. Only then would your stuff be at the mercy of the company.
Hey ppl, need to work on increasing your drumming skills?
Well, I've found something that may answer that question.
A demoscener named Spyder made a module that helped a person like myself improve my drum tracking skills.
Thing is you'll need a module player to watch (not a video, but a visual representation of how the tricks are tracked(Patterns tab)) and hear the module. PC Users
Mac Users
After a week's time I learned to step sequence these tricks in SONAR
I highly recommend you use a step sequencer to apply these tricks, as the module uses row numbers, that in a way translate to the column numbers in a step sequencer ( I had to +1 the numbers in the step sequencer as each module pattern starts with row "0")
If you don't have a step sequencer, I wish you best of luck with a piano roll/notation page.
If you have questions about anything in this post, lemme know.
Hey Sonar-Steam users! incase you didn't get the newsletter, there's a big sale on Sonar DLC, such as the complete Cakewalk Sound Library Expansion collection.
Hopefully there will be sales on the versions of Sonar in the near future, but anyway just click the link below and head towards the bottom (there'll be downloadable add-ons on sale).

For those who may have been curious, here's a comparison glimpse of two Windows-based DAWs stacked atop each other.
I attempted to put together a view that tries to bring up the most similarity, rather than difference, as both DAWs can have their windows/panels moved around (though as far as I know while Sonar's control bar can be rearranged, it must float as one piece). It's not perfect, I know, but it is what it is.
If any more shots of other comparisons are requested, let me know.

If FL Studio proves to be just not for you, I do recommend Ableton Live as another music program to check out. If you purchased an M-Audio keyboard, you can get a copy of Live Lite (a step down from Live Intro metinks), and/or get a copy of Ignite (now I don't know that program at all, but this video gives the impression that it's perhaps one of the most simplified, dumbed-down music softwares around, though I can't say it'll be easy to work with).
Now that I've got your attention, please ignore the facebook posts about a two-striped telamonia spider. The spider does notexist.
I admit I was scared out of my mind about an article someone posted about it, but I just YouTubed it, and am really shocked now, that for once some of the articlesI see ppl post on facebook aren't always 100% true!
Really ppl, we gotta research and find out stuff for ourselves, 'cause this is some serious shick to someone like me, I kid you not. Be careful what you hear/believe.
It could really be speculated that the videogaming world may crash again if Nintendo leaves the console business. Sony Worldwide Studios head honcho Shuhei Yoshida, has especially stated that not only does he want the Wii U to thrive, but also that if Nintendo tanks here, Sony and even Microsoft could most likely lose a lot of customers. as Nintendo predominantly family-oriented library has helped introduce the youngest audience to gaming whom can grow up to have interest in playing more mature games on Sony and Microsoft consoles.

not one track of mine has been stolen.
;l
Aw, don't be like that, Cala! Looking at your library, it seems that while you do have a massive quantity of songs, the quality may not be what your typical "'net pirate" is looking for.
But, don't despair. As Igor Stravinsky once said: "Good artists borrow, great artists steal"; the meaning of this is that sometime down the line, you may have a chance coming across new songs in the feature that sound like they blatantly ripped off your work. So please, keep your ears open, laddie. The time can come....
At 5/18/14 10:28 AM, Deshiel wrote: Reading topics like this actualy makes me feel happy that my own music is too shity to be stolen. :D
Meanwhile I sit in the middle, where either I'm uncredited and the song is monetized (the exception being the channel is so low-profile, the uploader'd be lucky to get so much as a nickel from Google), or I am credited but the song's not monetized.
In a world powered by money, it sucks we got to deal with crud like this all the time. Some of us don't want to "indirectly pay" people to attract traffic to ourselves (given the person actually provides a link to the source!); I totally get that.
Then there are those who are doing so well and/ or are just plain indifferent to others gaining pennies from our hard labor. I've recently talked to a high-profile artist, whose among those listed earlier in this thread, and they seemed pretty neutral about it, even feeling happy that their music was being shared abroad. One low-profile artist may have a problem with it as music actually is what currently drives their income.
Purgy, I respect your feelings, but in the long run, killing this channel won't be the end-all for our rights to earn something for our creations. It's fall (if that comes) may send a ripple in the YT community for something of this magnitude, but I doubt it wouldn't repeat itself again.
Newgrounds can't be our sole income provider, fellow audio ppl, and yes that could go for YouTube. This is why it could help if we minimize our losses by maximizing our profit outlets. Doing this could help alleviate whatever we may lose.
Going on a tanget, if we DRM'd all of our stuff, it would be US seen as the bad people. Yes loads of "stealers" would see their accounts perish because of it, but then, our growing visibility goes with it ('specially if we count on a word-of-mouth traffic income). I know, it's one of those "damned if I do, damned if I don't" situations. In the future maybe the playing field can be fairly leveled, but for now, this is all fact of life.
"Usagi-chan", eh? You're celebrating yours a little early, don'tcha think?
Ah well. Have a happy one, Step!
in advance :3
Is it a scam or is it the truth??
Since last month I've been receiving info from non mainstream media that Congress bill H.R. 2847 could very well be the United States economy's undoing if one passage within it goes effective on July 1st, 2014. The dollar's been predicted to officially collapse on that date!
Porter Stansberry appears to be the source of this claim among others, and I don't feel comfortable just sitting around until the date comes to find out whether or not they were right or if it's just a gold investment hoax.
This person seems to have an interesting position on the matter.
What do you all think?
