All y'all better check out Justin Oh's new movie Taeguki: Stagnant Fire staring a certain amphibious creature.

Is anyone else here still getting into flashes? Links people, LINKS!

Public Service Announcement:

Ok, you you newcomers to the NGVAC (or n00bs as some would call you)... You will not get roles unless you actively email flashists who post ads for roles. Saying "contact me if you want a voice actor" typically doesn't work. Ever.

Also, consider going to the VAC boards over here as a lot of animators have made the switch. You will find more movies over there to voice in.

Jeremy, so Elliair is gone. Like off the internet gone. Or at least she has switched screen names on NG and IM. But I still talk to Hobbes. He hasn't been here either though, Dropped the whole voice acting thing for now. Doing music mostly.

Didn't catch SS Cops when it hit the portal, but saw it now. Pretty sweet. Keep those crazy voices coming. And I don't blame you for only working for good flashists. Being in one good movie a year is better than 10 shitty movies a week.

This doesn't make grammatical sense. If you're not looking for a voice actor, why post here in the first place?

My guess is that it has nothing to do with your Audacity settings, and everything to do with your sound settings. Go to control panel/sounds and make sure your recording inputs are all correct for your soundcard. I can't offer any more specifics because i have NO CLUE how yoursystem is configured. But I hope this points you in the right direction.

Devilsojii: I'm glad you're so enthusiastic about this thread. However, it might be best for you to slow down with your advice. It is incomplete and not always the "standard" responces we at the VAC give out. Yes new memebers are required to have samples posted for DL on the web, but there are a lot of guidelines we already have spelled out here so I'd rather you just reference that link as well.

Everyone: who is new or not. This thread is NOT an IM service. Every post should include an email or message service screenname included so we don't get all these posts cluttering up the thread.

Wolf_Boy_300: You NEED to post a sample online.

m0u5y: You NEED to post a sample online... AND a working mic helps with that. Do not post here until you have a demo. You are simply wasting our time and spamming our thread in the mean time. We do not look kindly on spamming here. Computre mics are cheap (5-30$, cheap enough for ya?) and readily availible.

RyanofFmen: Not entirely sure how you managed to not only post here, but get on the internet at all if your tower is "busted". But again, no mic, no demo, no posting here. This is a very cool club I know... but you need to be able to record your voice. Would you try out for the Baseball team if you didn't have any arms? Use your head, don't post and waste our time.

Anyone thinking I'm a jackass right about now: You're right I am being a hard ass. But this thread only works when there are quality voice actors with quality recording ability availible to audition and record for flashists' movies and games. I just ask everyone to think before you post. The question to ask yourself is whether or not your post is important to the thread, or if you are just bored and trying to amuse yourself.

Please, if the community as a whole does not agree with me, post or email me back and I'll lighten up. But I think most of us (at least those of us who are serious and have stuck around) would feel the same as I do.

Drake: I too have heard this before I think...? Have you previously submitted your profile to the VAC?

Pretty much everything D-Mac said I second. You just now need to focus on actively emailing flashists who post ads for roles here. The sad reality is that no one will be coming to you with voice requests (at least not at first) so you have to chase after them. You can also try Kira's VAC Forums, thre are some more organized threads there for projects.

***ATTENTION ALL NEW VOICE ACTORS***

Ok, so there are like 5 of you who just posted in a row. Most (not all) of you do not have a sample of your voice acting. THIS IS NOT OPTIONAL!! In order to keep some sence of standards here at the VAC we require voice samples that are readily availible for download on the web. Saying "Just email me for a sample" is not good enough.

For more info on just how to do this, visit this page here.

Hey everybody. I just wanted to let y'all know that I'll be speaking this weekend at the Animé LA convention in Van Nuys CA this Friday and Saturday. Both days my panels are at noon in case any of you are going to be attending. Come by and say hi, it would be cool to meet some more of my fellow AVA's. Later!

VAC...... HOWAYA?!?

I'm back after 10 days of touring the east coast with my band. There's way too much to write about here, and it's WAY off topic. So I'll just refer y'all to my blog where I'll post a big entry later tonight summing up the whole trip.

So how is everyone? I have just now finished reading over the pages I missed. Glad to see we can still have random jackasses flaming on here about things that happened a year ago. It's like, no one involved is even still here anymore.

Back on topic, the V-day challenge is still in effect, about 3 more weeks on that. So don't procrastinate just cuz you have time now. CHOP CHOP!

Also VA related, anyone in the LA area should come out to Animé LA in Van Nuys this Fri Sat & Sun. I will be speaking on two panels about voice acting. The first is at noon on Friday and the second is at noon on Saturday. Come on down and say "Howaya?" before/after. it promises to be a good time. It's a lot smaller than AX so if huge cons aren't your thing this is the one to come out to.

That's all for now. Later...

***DP alert!!***

Ok, perhaps I should clear somethings up for people new to the VAC. The challenge is an AUDIO only project called an RP or radio play/production. What you will do is write a script for a fake radio ad promoting a movie. You will then record the voices/sound fx yourself or with your partners. Sound fx can also be found at various free sites like findsounds.com. Then you might ad music to the background for mood/setting. Finally mix and save your project as an MP3 and post it on the web like you would any demo or voice sample.

An example of what a finished RP sounds like can be found in my sig below, or here in the VAC challenge archives.

Alright listen up, time for a new Voice Acting Challenge from Frogs!! Is everyone excited? **((boo! hiss! sidownandshudup!!))** Good, I knew you all would be...

This is once again a holiday themed event. This time it's everyone's favorite corporately created travesty VALENTINES DAY. However, there is a twist. As per Shock Dingo's suggestion, this will be in the form of a faux movie trailer.

Rules:
-Original or parodied scripts allowed. Must be a valentines themed movie preview, but I don't care if you make it like a twisted love horror flick... whatever. All romantic comedy entries might get boring anyways.

-Length: should be somewheres between 30 seconds and 3 minutes. TV spots are 30 or 60 seconds, but in theaters before movies the trailers run as long as 3 minutes.

-Solo projects are allowed, as well as teams of 2-3. Anymore than 3 and we'll have too few sumbissions I think (remember last time anyone?).

-Deadline: V-day 2006 (Feb 14th). I know that is a long way off, but I will be out of town next week, and wanted everyone to have a fair chance to hear about the challenge long before the deadline.

Okay party peoples, that's it. If you are having trouble with finding partners or have questions about the rules just post. Don't be shy. And if anyone is having trouble coming up with ideas or writing the script, I'm sure there are plenty of people who can help, so ask about that too. This is about having fun and pushing ourselves creatively a little bit.

-Frogs

NO ONE should use the windows sound recorder. It is completely worthless. At least once a month I (or someone) has to post about not using this. Audacity and Goldwave are both FREE programs that record in high quality AND save in MP3 files. Pease please please use one of those two instead.

anyone. oh come on this is stupid. they said put it in the voice acting club and not a single person replies except for one.

Duder, calm down, not all of us come here every single minute of every single day. Patience, you MIGHT have to wait more than a few hours to get your voices done. It's fair I think since I usually have to wait months for a movie to be finished once I do submit my lines.

At 1/9/06 09:35 AM, -Jake- wrote: Hey im not part of this club or anyhting but i can do the voice for if you just add my AIM or email me on tupac_4_eva92@hotmail.com that would be great!

Well if you're not in the club, don't use our thread to get roles. Or you could simply follow the rules like everyone else and actually join the VAC.

At 1/9/06 04:33 PM, Warhammer_40K wrote: Need software to record voice, Suggestions? Price does not matter.

As mentioned above, Audacity and Goldwave are both good and FREE. But if you don't mind spending some cash, try Soundforge. Or try looking for a copy of Cool Edit Pro 2.1 (my personal choice), you may have to really look for that one.

Julie, have you/will you be paid to be in this game? That is what makes you a pro or not. The whole getting paid for your work thing. Also, tell us more about what this project is. Seems strange that a video game would use internet voice actors instead of recording the VO in a full recording studio.

After 24 hours of what?

Wait at least 24 hours before REposting a request for voice actors. For example: if you ask for VAs on Monday at 5pm, wait at least until Tuesday at 5pm before asking again. Any sooner and we'll consider it spam and be very displeased... YOU DO NOT WANT TO DISPLEASE US!!!

Listen everybody, reposting a request for Voice Actors should only be done after 24 hours at least. Give everyone here a chance to read it. We're not all glued to the internet checking for new posts every five minutes. Just a general rul eof thumb. Plus, the more info you can provide for the project the better. We REALLY like it when you can also provide some example of your recent flash work.

Also: anyone can join the VAC. But we do generally require that you have a downloadable sample or demo of not only your voice, but also some acting ability. It is voice ACTING after all...

A link in your sig is the best way to do this. Don't just say "email me for a sample, LOLZ!!!22!1@!" cuz no one wants to go to all that trouble.

If you are like "WTF is this guy Frogs talking about?" go read THIS. You really will thank me when you do.

FYAI: I will be back on Thursday. I'll get back to the recording then...

Well I wasn't so much saying to put off your projects as to not stress us out... It is more that many of us are/will be away for the holidays and simply can't record. That being the case, you may not end up getting the voice you're looking for simply because there are only a handful of VA's left to choose from.

However, the ones who ARE left should be happy, I'm sure they're getting lots of work these few weeks. Enjoy!

Just a reminder for everyone posting on this page about needing voices. I am away and unable to record until Dec 29. A lot of VA's are in similar situations. It may be worth putting off your animations for a week or two until us voice actors come back. Just a thought.

Well, you know best I suppose! But seriously, if we stopped voice acting for free... someone else with a crappy mic and no acting capabilities would. And the movies which normally would be good will have crappy voices. I don't want to see that happen. Getting paid by a flashist on NG? Forget it, it'll never happen. Getting real work from a site like voice123? Forget it unless you pay something like 250$ a year to be "premium memeber" so you can actully send emails to the job listing they do have. It's just a system built to exploit people who don't have enough sense to know better.

All y'all do yourselves a favor. Build your experience here, it looks good on a resumé. It helps you sharpen your craft without having to pay to take acting classes (sure classes are still worth it too). Maybe you'll even be in a movie you like enough to show your friends and enjoy that 15 second long "coolest guy in the room" effect. But don't be stupid about where you stand. We're AVA's.

Go pro sure! But you need a professional demo reel, an agent, auditions within a reasonable driving distance, and a lot of determination. NG has NOTHING to do with going pro. So let's not all get snooty here and start demanding cash. All we'd accomplish is putting an end to decent (sometimes) voice over on NG, and ZERO movies/games that we were a part of.

Just a friendly counter rant...
