school is pretty much useless. honestly, i don't see any point in it. it's just a waste of time. and a whole lot of time too, about 1/4 of the average person's life, even more for those who go to collage. and the subjects they teach are useless.
Math - on it's own, not that useless. most of it is good to know, but after i learned it once, is there really a reason to keep doing it over and over all year after everyone already knows it?
Science - most science is pretty interesting. i like studying science, at least the interesting stuff about how things work and quantum physics. but school science is useless. why must i remember scientist's pet names for things such as streaks of rust in rocks? for the record, they are called "red beds"
English - ya know, all the other classes are in English too, so why is this one named after the language it's taught in? ive had English classes every year, and not once was it actually about directly studying the language. it's about studying literature. but it just isn't fair how we study it. once i was asked to figure out what a writer meant his story to mean to the reader. i wrote that it's meant to mean whatever the reader thinks it does, its meant to vary depending on the reader's view of life. it was marked as wrong. but ask just about any writer, you will see that im right. just a class to teach you that your opinion is wrong.
History - now this is possibly the biggest one, because its never about history, just about a certain part of history. wars. ive had history every year i can remember, and not once did we study something that wasn't a war. its all about remembering general's names and certain dates. really boring, not one bit useful. they tell us to be proud of the soldiers who die in wars, but i view the entire concept of war as stupid. its just a mugging on an international scale, and a spectator sport for politics.
PE - both boring and useless. ive never learned anything there, because they don't teach anything. just a time filler a guess. for over a month in a row it was just line up and make the basketball go in the hoop and wait in line to do it again. in general there's only one sport i like, dirtbiking. not that they care what i like.
Electives (art, woodshop, music, cooking etc.) - finally, something useful. but wait, there's a fee? well, that's to be expected i guess, but with all that tax money, im sure that they would have no problem affording it. so i added it up since ive had most of those classes with a fee of $100 each ($130 for woodshop).
art - it was a 2d art class, used white construction paper and colored pencils mostly, total supplies cost, about $10.
woodshop - got my money's worth, found a piece of zebra wood :D. everyone else used pine.
music - there is no supplies cost for them, students are required to have their own instrument. didn't pay, wouldn't let me in.
cooking - you would think they need it here, but stores donate the food to them, and classes are planned around what the stores donated.
now that covers all of the classes, but wait, there's more horrible uselessness! possibly the biggest one of all, the Pledge of Allegiance. they force everyone to say it. there are so many problems with this. first of all, it's some weird sort of formality i don't really understand. it pledges allegiance to the united states, and in that, the president. so basically its a "i support bush" speech. and in it, it mentions god. yep, religious intolerance there. god usually means the Christin god, other religions usually have a different name for their god. some people believe in many gods, some don't believe there is one at all, and then there are some that simply choose to stay away from religion all together (me). i always refused to say the it, and i usually got lunch detention for it. but since i started high school, i got suspended for refusing to say it. major brainwashing going on there.
and in the end, i still don't understand it. why must i give them my life, why do i have to go there and allow them to make me be who they want me to be? why do i have to go to a place where thoughts are what they say they should be? and why do they constantly tell me "do as you are told"? that's the most insulting phrase i have ever heard, its almost as if they had said "you have no free will, you will obey your owners."
