Those don't really count as transgender since the people in both cases adopted an identity to gain something and not because they felt it was part of their identity

Can you all seriously not see the bias here? You see a tumblr and assume that the woman is "man-hating" (which is a misrepresentation at best) and then go on to make very specific conclusions about what her son's upbringing has been like when you have little to no knowledge of the situation. You assume that she is lying, I'm pointing out that you don't know that. You have absolutely no ground there.

Think about this: if the child does have gender issues, then feminist parents are simply more likely to be supportive. There's nothing convenient about the situation. If this is what the child wanted most parents would say "fuck no" and not hear about it for years later if they do at all. The difference here seems to be that she said "okay", and posted about it on tumblr.

I agree - A child has no concept of such a thing. The most you can do is let them grow up and decide where they want to go when they get to an age where they understand these things

Gender identity is formed around that age though, and some trans people do have gender issues starting at that time. They do not have to understand the issues in an adult sense to know what gender they are, it is innate.

While I agree that the child needs to grow older to make a decision, allowing them to willingly wear female clothing (you have no evidence to the contrary) is not going to hurt anything and is not in itself going to cause serious issues and doesn't constitute child abuse.

Is the bikini picture a little weird? Yeah, but I've seen parents do the same thing to their young girls when they take them to the pool etc. They probably just think it's cute.

Again there's no evidence that this is happening against the child's will.

Also AFAIK the mother couldn't have any access to surgery or anything like that without having the child meet with a therapist first, which is what should really be happening. So I really doubt anything irreversible will happen.

If someone can defend some crazy bitch on tumblr, they rarely do it with a logical reason, they just want to be dicks about it with no reason or logic involved.

You have a vendetta against "SJWs" and also tumblr apparently. You don't care about the child or this situation specifically.

At 7/13/14 11:02 PM, Bit wrote: The child is too young to realize what is happening. A few comments are not reason enough to believe that he truly wants to be a she. Anyone who remembers being a young child remembers the sweeping assumptions often made about the way the world works, some even based on what was originally fantasy.

That is a possibility, but unlike dinosaurs gender is part of human psychological development and gender identity is usually formed around the age of three and generally doesn't change after that. Children may not understand the real-world implications but they know what gender they are at that age.

The question is whether or not the child genuinely believes that they are a girl or sees it as some sort of game, which as I've said multiple times can only be determined by a qualified therapist over a longer period of time.

This whole situation and this thread makes me sad

On the one hand I think she should put her child into therapy for a while and wait until the child is about to hit puberty to make a decision. Things like this happen often and it usually doesn't mean that the child is trans.

On the other hand, if the child is choosing to wear female clothes there's nothing wrong with allowing this behavior regardless of whether the child is trans or not (which is really impossible for anyone to know at this point).

I'm also sad that some people seem to believe that gender identity can be changed/imposed by parents when it cannot. If you put a boy in women's clothes and call them a girl, they will still know that they are a boy and it will come out at some point. He won't morph into a transsexual because of how his parents treated him and the end result won't be worse than raising a trans child as the wrong gender. Obviously both situations would be wrong, but I'm just saying- the people up in arms here would be defending the parents if the situation was reversed like that.

I kill and loot anyone that I can get away with killing. When I'm given those stupid good-or-bad choice things in a mission I'll usually choose the good one though.

It's annoying in Bethesda engine games how much you can shit up the game just by killing the wrong characters though. It seems like random factions just decide to hate me and I can't figure who I killed to make it happen. Plus I always make my character stealthy, but whatever
