people r different Posted July 25th, 2014 in General

There's been plenty of topics on the BBS lately that broached transgender topics and they all got pretty heated. I thought about something recently and thought it might put a new perspective on things for some people without starting a flamewar...

What I have to say is that these issues are really much easier to understand if you just try to stop thinking of people categorically. What I mean by that some people seem to have an idea that everyone falls or should fall into certain categories, and if anyone claims not to fall into one they believe that they are lying, disingenuous and just want to be a "special snowflake" that isn't like everyone else. For example, they might be okay with gay people and accept that they are the way they are, but if someone says that they are pansexual they get angry and say that pansexual people don't really exist. Because the label is newer and being pansexual is further out of the conception and experiences of the vast majority of people.

It might be hard to believe if you fall roughly into the norm, or even if you fall into one of the more common but not quite "normative" categories, but these labels are a very broad and new method of classification and there are plenty of people that don't fit into them at all.

Out there right now there are very feminine men that love wearing women's clothing, but are straight as an arrow and fine with being men. There are people that genuinely have a personal identity such that they do not and cannot feel that they are either men or women. There's people that were born intersex and physically aren't either. There's people whose sexualities don't revolve around which gender their partners are. Hell for some people these qualities, or at least their understandings of them, can and do change over their lifetime. Just because you've never gone outside and ventured to the corners where people like this are truly accepted and free to be open about themselves doesn't mean that they don't exist or that their experiences and identities aren't as real and genuine as yours. And it certainly doesn't mean that they chose to be or want to be that way either.

Sure, they aren't statistically normative. Sure, there are people on the internet who claim to be in these categories, but really aren't. They might just be young and have only an emerging understanding of themselves and these issues. Why do you let misguided teenagers on certain websites speak for an unbelievably diverse group of people? Why are you so convinced that these people on the fringes must be lying to get attention and are really just "normal" like you somewhere deep down inside? Why do you think someone would choose to be that way even though it's impractical and inconvenient to exist like that, in our society, in almost every conceivable way? You really think someone can go through all of that, just to be considered "special" without falling apart and going back?

Really, the reason why you're hearing about this so much is because we are only just now living in a society where people like this can connect with each other and be open about who they are without fear of being declared insane and getting completely ostracized. That should be seen as a positive thing, and I'll never understand why some claim that they are being forced to do things- when really all most of these people want is to be accepted as they are and for their identities to be known as real and genuine. The way they want this happen might seem weird, stupid, alien- but hey, these topics are just now being broached, what the hell did you expect?

Ironically, you're only making these people speak out louder when you stubbornly refuse to do just that for no good reason at all. No one's saying that you have to involve your life in issues like this, but why on earth would you actively work against these people being accepted socially? Why would you rationalize away any discrimination that they face just to prove some point that no one gets?

This is Newgrounds, so I have no idea if this will go well or not and have intention of making any replies to this thread, but hey maybe it was worth a shot

also I know I used the word "you" a lot so I just want to make it clear that I'm only speaking generally to people who seem to think in the manner I described and not to people who don't. nor am I trying to single out a specific person

I liked to just use Victoria's Secret magazines. I kept doing it even after I had internet access and I wanted to find porn featuring women who looked like the models and wore similar outfits- maybe I have a clothing fetish or something.

But if you don't count that, I just typed "free porn" into Google the first night I got my laptop at age 13, and the rest is history

Why?

Most extractions use a pretty nasty solvent, but the thing is- the solvent should not remain in the final product. If you've ever spilled pure acetone you that it evaporates at room temperature.

Saying that it "isn't safe" while choosing to use butane is ridiculous, they're both pretty dangerous chemicals.

I have actually read that acetone is a better solvent than butane as it doesn't remove very many pigments and tars. Sure you'd probably get sub-par results if you used nail polish remover (which is diluted and has a few additives), but that isn't the only source of acetone.

At 7/23/14 02:30 PM, 24901miles wrote: Butane would be the solvent of choice for extractoon. You can just follow a butane honey oil recipe for that.

Acetone (the pure kind that you can get at the hardware store) supposedly works better and the extraction process is much easier. No expensive equipment- just pour the acetone in a jar of weed, let it soak, then pour off the liquid into a pan (in a ventilated area I hope) and let the acetone evaporate.

People tend to freak out and say "OMG you out acetone in ur weed!" , but srsly it all evaporates and how is butane supposed to be safer

From what they told me you fill out some paperwork, and then they ask both people "do you accept ____ to be your lawfully wedded husband/wife" like in a normal wedding ceremony. Eh, the point I was trying to make is that there isn't an objective definition so people will have different cutoffs. Unless you're close to being a millionaire or something obvious like that everyone might not agree on labels.

Hell people make rich and poor part of their identity. Another example is conservatives arguing that they're poor and don't need government assistance so no one should have, while glossing over the fact that the people on aid still make significantly less than them. It's all relative.
