One thing:

At 9/3/07 08:50 PM, cellardoor6 wrote: Chavez is just getting increasingly more popular in South America, it's possible that his "Socialist Revolution" could spread to other countries, if not by force, then by cozying up with them and dividing them from other South American countries that are more friendly to the US and the UK specifically.

I don't see that happenning. Even the countries that have leaders with some degree of politial affinity with Chávez (Nicaragua, Ecuador and Bolivia, namely) have slowly begun to take more cautious measures regarding their relations with Chávez, despite some initial snuggling.
Other than that, the only die-hard Chávist that stood a chance in the last few elections was Ollanta Humala in Perú, and right now there are no leftist radicals with significant popularity that could run for candidates in any Latin American nation, except maybe in Central America since I don't really know what's going on in there.

I'm certain that everybody here realizes that the vast majority of 11-year olds who shoot people up are in fact being used by gangs or other unescrupulous systems. They should be accountable for their actions, but not in the same way that an adult would.

They're kids, people. Stupid kids, maybe, but kids nonetheless. 13 seems like a good age to me.

Response to: Gays, Serve your f***ing Country Posted August 29th, 2007 in Politics

Okay, here's what I'm getting: You want gay people to serve America/the Army, and everybody tells you that they are in fact already doing so, but you say that it's "not enough". You say that they should hide their gayness to avoid being dismissed from the army, but at the same time in some way they should let people know that they're gay, and in the army. Or saving people. Being gay and not saying so or being "in the army" while being gay despite that they can't be in the army if they're gay. So you're advocating for gay guerrilla forces of US mercenaries?

I mean, seriously. There are tons of gay people in the US army, thousands and thousands of homo-soldiers, and they get shot and save people and bleed and shoot terrorists.
And gays haven't had it "so much easier" than other minorities when it comes to their struggle for civil rights. Just ask the kids that still get their heads obliterated by the business ends of baseball bats for being caught "in the act" in gay-hostile enviroments.

Oddly enough, I've been trying to sort out my family tree.

You actually used it for that? I just lined up my uncles, grandparents, parents and siblings and started to predict the misadventures of my offspring. Suddenly I found myself in the fourth generation of my descendance, and it was full of guys who died in their mid-20's in "Live free Die Hard kind of stunt that got them killed but totally screwed the bad guys too".

My relatives have to be the least creative people on Earth when it comes to naming their children.
José, María, Isabel, Liliana, José, María, Isabel, Liliana, José, María, Isabel, Liliana, José, María, Isabel, Liliana, José, José, José, Joseeeeeee!!!

Apparently, José is to your family what Tomás and Eduardo are to mine. Since my mother's family is Arabic, though, they at least used to have some interesting names in the book. The thing that my mother despises the most on this Earth is her middle name, Zulema. Apparently their parents wanted to name her "Salima" (which she would have hated too anyway), but the clerk at the civil registry made a typo. Still, with her first name, middle name and last names, I haven't seen a single bill, mail, card or document directed to her that didn't mispell something in her name. Which is weird, since she doesn't have the "weird" kind of Arabic names.

And I got in the middle of dark family secrets..... :O!

Not many secrets in our family. We've been pretty boring since the 80's.
