Well, I'm new to this thread too.

Are you talking about a YouTube channel? You can't promote those things here... and you don't even provide a link? You're a n00b spammer.

Yeah, I know. Sort of a reverse on the old standard, huh?

I wanted to show my dad this hilarious YouTube I found, so I walked over to my parents room. My dad during the time of day would be usually trading stocks. However, when I walked in, he immediately closed his browser and turned his chair around to face me. At this point, I wasn't sure what he was looking at, but I remember the site had a distinctive red background.

He asked me if I wanted a cracker, but I refused. We stared at each other for a while, and his body language told me that I needed to leave the room. I did.

A few minutes later, I knew I had to show him the video. Once again, I opened the door and he shut off his browser containing the same red-background website. But unbeknownst to him, there was a pop-up that clearly featured some hentai. He knew I saw this, and there was another awkward silence once again.

However, this time he spoke: "I think I got a virus from an e-mail. I'm going to run a virus scan right now! You know, the Internet is really unsafe." My dad is a great guy, but he doesn't know how to lie. He was lying to me right then and ther, and I knew it.

Come to think of it, I remember when I was young that we only had one computer in the house. I remember that one day, I opened my dad's little private folder and finding a "videos" folder within that. There, I saw my first glimpse of naked people. I mean, I was scared (I was probably 7), so I immediately shut off the player and deleted it. But yeah, that also comes in mind.

Is my Dad a porn addict? There are so many thoughts running in my head right now, and I seriously do not know what to do. Do you have any advise NG?

Well, I mean maybe when I was that was in 3rd grade, but books are fun -- the best books are always better than the best movies. And the amount of satisfaction one can get from them are enormous.

Try to start on some John Steinbeck. His books are VERY short, and you'll finish them in no more than a couple of hours. He's a great writer, and he'll keep you hooked. Try reading some of his work.

Unless you can prove to us (via paypal screenshot or otherwise) that you have proper funds, no one will help you here for free.

Also, do you have a domain already? More specifically, what are your plans for this new website?

Regulars of this forum do accept projects like these, but only after proof of proper funds, and knowledge that you're not a fraud.

Hmmm... I looked it up, and (correct me if I'm wrong) forms when associated with PHP have to do with user submitted variables. I'm talking about my own set variables.

I also don't want to use MySQL for this either. Thanks for your help, but is there any other way to do this?

PHP: For dummies is generally a good place to start: Amazon.com: php for dummies

I was considering it, but as with every other PHP book on Amazon, there are a handful of really terrible reviews that sound really legit. However, that's Amazon. I trust the NG Programming regs a hell of a lot more... can I get some more feedback about good PHP books for beginners?

Forum: Programming

Hi. I'm quite new to this whole website thing, so forgive me if I'm asking dumb questions. I've tried Google. It's just that I either didn't know what to search for, or I just couldn't find it. Thanks.

1) In Internet Explorer, when I embed a flash, you have to click it once to "activate" it. I'm sure you know what I mean. How do you get around this so you can just click the flash directly?

2) For PHP, is there a way you can load variables onto a current page that are from another page? In other words, lets say that on my home (http://mysite.com) , I want to echo the "title" and "description" variables from another section (http://mysite.com/articles.php). How would I go about doing that?

3) What are some good PHP books you guys can recommend? I have my feet wet, but don't know enough to do anything practical. I'm looking for a book that's for beginners, explains things very clearly, and shows you practical examples so you know what something is good for.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

At 7/4/08 12:46 AM, Diki wrote: That made the background disappear, and caused the DIV underneath the header/header background to move up beside the header.
The background will only appear if content is inside of the DIV, and only stretch as far as said content.

I shouldn't have to hold your hand through all of it:

#master {
width: 100%;
display: block;
margin: 0px 0px ##px 0px; /* The "## sets the amount of margin you want between this div and the one below it */
}

#header {
width: 419px;
background: url(./img/header.png);
float: left;
display: block;
}

#header_background {
height: 109px;
width: ###px /* This sets how long you want your "header_background" div to be */
background: url(./img/header_background.png) repeat-x;
float: right;
display: block;
}

Flash Forum, buddy.

Over there they are going to ask you to display your code. If you're unwilling, this I can say:

It sounds like your hitTest applies to your whole entire movie clip so that it would be testing a rectangle rather than your slanted platform. I'm not very familiar with actionscript, but that's probably your problem. But again, flash forum. All actionscript questions go to the flash forum.

No, but just don't use line breaks; Internet Explorer doesn't render line breaks very well. Sometimes they aren't rendered if there aren't an odd number of them, and sometimes they're way over bloated. I could be wrong, and there could be a underlying problem that I'm just not seeing, but that's what seems to be the problem to me. You don't need empty divs. From now on, just use margins and padding, and I think you'll be fine.

Yeah, you aren't going to get anyone to help you here. With nothing to build off of, no compensation (I doubt you can pay past a couple of hundred dollars if that), and a "boss" that doesn't seem qualified, don't get your hopes up.

On the brighter side though, I can tell you that there is an actual place to fill in your web site for your profile in your account settings! Cheers.

Hmmm. Try adding a pixel value to it:

Also, if you want your background to actually fill the whole entire browswer, set the *:

* {margin: 0px}

Cheers.

Set the margins to the respective div:

Site | CSS

I apologize for asking so many questions (you guys are great, and I really appreciate it), but this is just making me really confused. And I don't know what to do.

According to the Web Developer add-on to FireFox, my "body-container" and "body" divs are on the top. This doesn't make sense to me though, because I intend for them to below the header.

How do I fix this?

Thanks guys... I mean that a lot.

Posted: 07/01/08 06:28 PM

I was voting on a flash, when it says that I only need to vote on one more flash to get to level 50. I thought that it was a server malfunction or something, but I really needed to take advantage of it, fast. So, I go on to another flash and vote on it, when it says that I only need to vote on one more flash to get to level 40. Okay...

This goes on until I think level 20, when I'm logged out. Okay. So I log in again when I'm redirected to an error page that says that my account has been terminated. I'm really scared right about now, and then I woke up.
