If sex was forgotten Posted November 18th, 2014 in General

How fast would it be remembered?

I remember as a kid how I had no idea what sex was. If someone had not told me how sex works and I got in a relationship who did not know how sex worked, would it just happen anyway?

I understand that sex is a basic instinct. I'm just wondering if part of the instinct is the intercourse thing.

I assume it is since animals do it without talking to each other first. It's kind of weird.

What's that techno y music that is popularly used in nightclubs in movies. It doesn't have lyrics, and if you heard you would roll your eyes because you've heard it so many times but still don't know the name.

Haha!

Aren't there pendants, parts, pills and ammunition to collect on these levels? Because I know it's quite easy to just run through these sections, I just never did it because of the possible drops.

Maybe, but I'm doing my platinum run and haven't gotten to the bookstore yet. I did run through the graveyard cause I had everything from a previous run. But there's a locked door at the end so I got there and turned around. Shit. There were six clickers all jerking their way at me. So me and Bill went back-to-back with our shotguns, blew four away at once. It was great.

My only issue is saving shivs for the doors.

I was thinking about that too... Hate to have TWO buttons though since we're ultimately working to reduce stuff in the header. Would be interesting to just default to that, but then you'd lose a lot of good results. I wonder if Google has a policy about bypassing their results page that way...

That's fair. I never use I'm feeling lucky for that discovery reason. It's especially important with NG and it doesn't really fit with this vanilla google search. I feel like I'm getting a lot of results that are just offshoots to the most popular item.
When I see a mass of NG results on a search, I look for: Score and picture, then other results. Barely bother with the description because they're almost never written well.
I'd like to continue to see those icons, for sure. They sidetrack me from what I thought I wanted to see or make me want to go back to the result page after I watch the thing my friend told me about. This was especially true when I was new to the site and saw all these Zelda and Lord of the Rings parodies or even tributes to those parodies.

I'm not sure what "skinning" the google results would actually look like.

As it is, it the search results feel redundant and not context sensitive. Like if I typed in "The World is Saved", the first two results should probably be, "The World is Saved", "EKublai userpage", but if I typed "Numa Numa", after the original and Gman250's page, I would much rather be bombarded with all those parodies and scroll through than be interrupted by blog post results that mention it.

This is my first time posting to this site, so I hope I provide comments that help you!

I like the general concept that she's some sort of alien/superpowered being, and that you don't throw that riht out at the start. But I must be really thick, or wasn't paying attention, because I didn't understand how her doffing her humanoid zip-on disguise resolved the conflict.

Okay. So she's really just a superhero. I can see how so many of her powers being biological might make it confusing I'll have to think about that. At the end, she actually just teleports out of the house to go the party. I kind of imagine this being set in LA. I should make that clearer that Rachel is "The Socialite" she's a superhero who doesn't want to have to work hard to be thought of as a superhero.

Both characters could use a little fleshing out. I know that's hard in a short, but it can be done. Like Why does Jack not want to go out? Is this a normal struggle for him and Rachel, or is it just this event? Rachel is clearly highly manipulative, but that also might be highlighted better, as that is kinda the central point -- "Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets" sorta thing.

I see where you are coming from. Jack does not want to be seen in public because he feels that his wife should have been saving people from a burning building instead of making money by doing publicity for a pet store.

Just a couple of little suggestions. Let me know if they help -- also let me know if I should just keep my ignorant trap shut!!

Thanks, that's a good bit to chew on.

King Allant, Demon Soul's. He's the final boss and the easiest in the game. The point of the battle is to feel the boss' sadness. It's kind of like The Sorrow's fight in MGS3. Not meant to be hard, just carry the weight of emotion.

It was anime, point n' click adventure rpg. The graphics were beautiful. Was really popular on NG in the mid 2000s. All I really remember is that there's a part where you send a magpie up a tree to get something down.

Heh. I just remember being really impressed by the art (and sure, the cleavage). More importantly, it had a really fun story and point n' click puzzles.

Hey! I didn't see this topic until now (yeah, it's old)

There's a lot getting in the way of that entry being correct. Most notably, the book doesn't have an ISBN yet (because it was only sold through Newgrounds and not through physical retailers.

With the shop closing, I'm preparing to properly self-publish the book on Amazon. I'll have more details this fall.

Response to: Is $60 too much? Posted July 21st, 2014 in Video Games

No one is entitled to buy every game he's ever wanted.
This stuff costs money to make.
You know what still legal? Playing at a friend's house, borrowing a game, buying a game used.
Become a smarter consumer.

Fortunately, companies are well aware of your purchasing habits and adjust accordingly. They know that xx% will buy used so they factor that in. That's why preorders are such a relief to publishers. Consumers are dumb enough to conclude "I must have this on Day One" for no other reason than their excitement.

Maybe you don't trust reviews. That's fine. But blindly leaping into the arms of a company primarily interested in making money is just as naive as thinking that because they can't buy as many games as they're excited for, that games are overpriced.

Concise Writing Advice Posted July 7th, 2014 in Writing

I wanted to start a sort of Jon Winokur-esque writer's advice thread. If you don't follow Jon Winokur on twitter already, you should. He posts quotes by famous authors on the craft of writing. You probably would not agree with all the pieces of advice (and you shouldn't seeing as many of them contradict one another), but realize these are all humans who started someone and had to journey to get to where they ultimately ended up.

I don't attribute this advice to anyone, except I was listening to an interview with Max Borenstein (screenwriter for this year's Godzilla). He talked about how when he was young he loved to write about ideas that he thought were bigger than himself and I think that is a common practice for young writers. We love to write huge fantasies, sprawling worlds, or alternatively, stories with TRUTH on a grand scale. We love to let our imaginations run wild even if, yeah, the end product is something we'll be embarrassed by in a few years. What's more, we are young and don't have the life or writing experience to successfully conquer these ambitious desires we have from the get go. Writing about the more relatable aspects of your human experience (relationship to family, everyday problems, etc) will help you develop your voice as a writer. Your skill will catch up with education and practice.

So my advice: Think Small, Dream Big

Everyone is welcome to submit their own little bits of wisdom.

Response to: Flipping your Position Posted June 19th, 2014 in Politics

What I think is important to me on this topic is the idea that people need to be firm in their actions, but that it's okay to change their views without regretting that they ever held them.

Flipping your Position Posted June 18th, 2014 in Politics

I find myself in a constant position of flux when it comes to many issues. Gun control, abortion, the closing of guantonomo, government involvement in our daily lives, etc.

At first, I thought I was just becoming more conservative since I used to be huge on gun control, but now I just think guns should be limited to the land that you own and can defend. Abortion is always tricky, especially as medical technology gets better.

And then I thought I was getting more libertarian, because I started putting the first amendment over national security, but I still believe in Keynesian economic policies.

I was about to go off on a tangent about being pragmatic and utilitarian, but none of that.

How often do you find yourself shifting on the issues. Not just fine-tuning. But literally sensed that you have crossed one point of the spectrum onto another?

Thanks.

As for the arkin. You will only know when you have it in your hands.
You need it no more than any other thing that simply tries to bring a little joy to your life.
A raffle is not trying. Again, this point of the raffle is not to give away the prize, but to promote the book.
