Tom, you're the reason why I'm sitting here reading this post from work. Thanks and damn you for providing me with the inspiration and motivation to get a good job and the countless hours required to maintain it :) Newgrounds has been my home for almost a decade now.

Well, what can you expect :)

By not going the corporate route you've suffered the plight of only having so many talented, creative people under your belt and only so much room for production. Perhaps it's time to get recruiting from the NG community? Get some freelancers going and outsource projects? I've had the feeling for the past few years that although I hate big corporations, NG has to make some decisions regarding its expansion if it's going to compete with the kinds of sites that it inspired (like YouTube).

Either way you have maintained the greatest Flash portal on the web, and I never have and never will go anywhere else. I've always had faith in you (since 1999 :) ), and look forward to the future. There's no need to get worried.

I made a big post on this somewhere... but I can't find it :(

http://digital-photography-school.com/blog/
That site's pretty good though.

Definitely edit that photo in photoshop. And make sure you save it with File -> Save For Web with a quality of 65 or higher. Otherwise you get shitty compression and a bad looking picture.

There are so many techniques for photo editing that it's really impossible to list them all. Some basic stuff to tweak is "Brightness / Contrast", "Color Balance", "Exposure" and cropping (check the Image -> Adjustments menu). Tweaking Levels is also important for cameras that don't really capture the entire spectrum of color.

I hate to show this little gem for bringing out color (because it's going to bring up a crop of oversaturated crappy photos), but a very common technique is this:

1) Duplicate your photo layer
2) Set the top layer to "soft light"
3) The opacity of this layer should be between 25-60%

It'll really make a difference most of the time, but don't abuse it :)

But as I said before... google around for image editing techniques. There are just so many ways to bring out what you want in your photos.

I thought all of the kids with bad attitudes were supposed to stay in the general forum.

I discredit everything you've said because all three movies in your profile have the word "sunshine" in them. And that makes me sick.

Actually your feedback is very good, but the classic problem is defining what is art, what isn't, who deserves to create it, and who needs some help. The majority of people on newgrounds are just kids finding their way ... artistically or just ... some other way. You can never keep someone from posting, and 90% of the people on this site are very stubborn, angsty, and self absorbed. It's a shame there's no thread rating system so people could have their stuff judged on a real scale. Also be careful when you shut down a group of people... some of them could have a lot of potential that's just untrained as of yet.

Personally, I stopped posting because I ran out of time/inspiration (temporarily, I swear), and all of my portrait shots ended up being really similar (as you said). I haven't taken any formal training for photography so I'd like to step up my skills a bit before jumping back into presentation.

Well that issue is less to do with freedom of speech than it does of a violation of democracy in general. People vote based on information, and if the only information people can access is unfairly biased and filtered ... then what you have is corporate corruption.

I'm not sure what you'd call "freedom of information", but when you have every candidate listed except for one (ABC poll) there's something wrong with the system. You can say that he is not popular in the polls, but he caused a huge stir with the Republican debate (and in doing so humiliated a front-runner) and some news sources never even mentioned it.

Don't you just love it when people say something when they don't know what's up?

Almost as much as I love it when someone walks into a conversation only to say something irrelevant and insulting, then run off.

I admit that I used mySpace in the title because I knew it would get attention from you guys and I wanted to see if anyone else had faced this kind of problem. I was a little skeptical since the guy had been posting such a large volume of information, but it's good to know no one else is having trouble with this kind of thing.

I appreciate your responses so far, but no one's seemed to mention the article about media censorship. Too much text, perhaps?

Hmm, oh well, I was a little skeptical about the mySpace thing but if it isn't truly an issue that's good to know.

You are grasping for straws. Besides, I wouldn't vote anyone for president off of the internet. I've seen how easy it is to fool people.

Then where do you get your information from? The internet seems to be one of the last places where you can get unfiltered data. And obviously the mainstream media is fooling millions but people have no way of knowing without seeing real results on the internet. Are all youtube videos illegitimate, even when they are complete clips from various news stations? Have you seen the entire Republican debate, or just the one-liners the networks have been showing to promote individuals?

If you have a truly balanced news source please share it because I've been looking for years.

Regardless of your opinions on his foreign policy, does the media censorship not bother you? The mainstream just seems confused... if not even threatened by his growing popularity. Look at the polls. Look at the numbers and tell me that something is not frightening about how we're being lied to.

Sorry about putting politics in the General forum, but you really need to see this video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXUsc3rDQQs

Get educated about the upcoming election. It may be a year away, but the most ridiculous shit is already happening in our country. Ron Paul is a candidate that's extremely popular on the internet, but in the mainstream media many channels have censored him or altered hard figures to promote candidates that provide them with monetary support.

Democracy?

Or just a bunch of rich guys taking over?

Read a little for yourself.

That's why I'm such a proponent of figure drawing classes, but no one on NG ever listens :)

I also just got OPEN CANVAS. That program is the shiznit! It's got the simplicity of Paint and almost looks as good as Painter (well, not really, but much better than a rush job in photoshop). You guys should really check it out.

What these contests really need is more of a blogging approach to entries. Each submission should be commentable, so we don't have this lame separate thread... and then ANOTHER front page thread. It's very inefficient and inconvenient.

Get new friends. Haha. I can tell that you put a lot of effort into your entry, and that pays off. However, you may consider doing some research and practice on the human anatomy. Your people are pretty good, but they are not anatomically accurate, which may not SEEM like a big deal, but it is. Anyway, at any rate you'll be cranking out a lot more good stuff in the future, so keep it up!
