Let's wait to what bomtoon does about weapon upgrades... then we can talk about that I think there are going to be multiple upgrades and add-ons...

Thanks! We have to see want bomtoons says about upgrades first...I was thinking maybe adding a sidecars as a upgrade...

Yay! Anybody have any thing else?

Also since you seem to have a knack for textures care to work up something for the farthest :background, the one that alternates between two different looks.

I can do the basis backgrounds but I don't really understand what you mean...If I do a basic background we could have others make object to go with it. Like somebody said something about crows peaking at dead bodies...and things on fire...I will do the ground and we can put those objects on top...

Are you talking about smoke or clouds that will go over the background?

Also...

For the background...

The level starts in suburbia?

Just like a regular neighborhood street only apocalyptic looking...fires, flipped over cars dead bodies and all that fun stuff. I was thinking we could make a couple of different houses with no detail all with the same perspective and everyone could "decorate" a couple of their own...

Also here there will be the low level easy to kill stuff...

Next...

Like a downtown?

Same thing here make a couple of different looking buildings that could be decorated...also have Harder bad guys

Next maybe some sort of industry-ish looking place...warehouses and things of that nature...

Then the end will just be a barren wasteland...

I drew up a motorcycle for the main "ship"

I was thinking that when you go left or right it would rock slightly as you move through the level...but we will have to wait to see what bomtoon says.

Well. Hmmm. I will make a little thing to help you get the perspective right...for now look at these drawings I did yesterday...They still aren't great but whatever I am working on it...

NOTE: It's just an outline, I know. Detail comes after the 16th, which is the supposed due date ornery chose.
Suggestions are open as of right now for this.

You need to use that box that deadspread made as the template for the perspective. If everybody uses it there will be a kind of cohesion to the design. Everybody's art is going to look different but if we do it at the same angle it will still look like it all goes together.

I like deadspread's idea about the backgrounds from an earlier post...here is a quote :D

"I think it would be neat if as the character gets closer to the final bosses, the ground changes, like if its a standard dilapidated urban sprawl that gives way to a more volcanic look, the the earth/pavement cracking and showing whats underneath. Kind of a way to transition from the vehicle based enemies to the more biblical badass monster enemies"-deadspread

I am still not completely sold on this guy walking around as the main character...You are going to be looking at his back the whole time...I just think it is silly that he would just shoot up...It would be different if he would be able to do a 360 degree turn...the game is also going to be constantly moving, pushing the player foreword so even if the character is standing still the stage will still be moving...it sounds like a real bed Atari game.

The game engine is being built for a ship...but whatever.

Maybe in the story the guy has some sort neurological problem from the nuclear fallout that makes it impossible for him to turn his body :D

Also...3 frames for an explosion??? In a 60fps game...will the human eye even pick that up?

More thoughts later :)

About the perspective...I think that it would add to the look of the game if we made things look like they have more dimension but I understand that it would be harder for the less experienced artists and I believe that this should be a project for everybody and I wouldn't want to make it harder for people.

I think that this type of game is harder to make look good than a side scrolling game...

About the background...There is only going to be one background, the ground. Everything is going to move at the same speed...

More thoughts to come in a bit :D

A player on foot sounds cool but did you run it by BoMToons first... if the character is going to be on foot he is going to have to be able to move 360 degrees or it would be lame. BoMToons may not want to do the extra work for just one level...

I think that it would be silly to have a man walking around and all you can do is shoot forward...

Hope it's looking better

You need to think about the perspective here...those treads are going to have to go all the way to the back of the vehicle. The front is a little to high and that is making the turret look like it is hanging downwards...nice detail thou...

So that brings me to the question...are we going to do this as a full top-down game or are we going add a little dimension to it???
