One note to people who recieve a sketchbook page:
Make sure you draw on the correct side of the paper! the holes should be on the left side.

I was thinking people would draw on both sides. Should people not draw on both sides? Or is it just not required to draw on both?

Also, i'm wondering about the status of the rest of the pages... Is it only a few pages and many requests? Any ideas on what you'll do about it?

Topic: Help, save to earlier flash?

Posted: 03/31/06 01:26 AM

Forum: Flash

I'm about ready to submit my game to newgrounds, and the armorgames contest. But to submit the game to the contest i need to include the armor games intro animation. My problem is that i have flash mx, and their intro's are saved in a newer version. So i was wondering if someone with a newer version of flash could save their intro animation to flash mx for me.

If someone thinks they'll help me...
http://www.armorgames.com/images.html
Since i cant open the files, i dont know which is which, but i like the one with the shield and light, which i bet is intro #4.

Thank you! that wasn't hard at all, but for some reason i didn't see "stopallsounds();" anywhere, when i was looking through page after page, trying to find out how to stop event sounds. i saw a little bit that said something about stopping all sounds, but it had different code that didn't work.

I cant find how to stop event sounds. Stopping streamed sound is as easy as stopping a frame, but what about event sound?

In some of my movie clips, the paintbrush and eraser tool don't aren't working like they're supposed to. Instead they're filling/erasing the space between the lines i draw. I tried restarting flash and that didn't work, so is there some strange option that i cant find, which is causing the problem?

Topic: Passing variables to functions

Posted: 03/16/06 06:19 AM

Forum: Flash

ok... i guess i didn't do enough testing, so thanks for pointing out that it works.

i found out what my code is doing. what i was doing was using a function to spawn enemies, and trying to make them check a variable on every turn. (a different variable for different enemies, which is why i needed to pass it to the function). But what the code is actually doing, is just passing the result of that variable at the time of the enemies creation, and then it checks that same result every turn, rather than checking the new result of the variable each turn. I guess there's no way to do what i thought it would do, so i'll have to reorder my code. thanks for the help.

Topic: Passing variables to functions

Posted: 03/16/06 05:11 AM

Forum: Flash

i've got flash mx, so i think that's why my flash doesn't understand :void and :Boolean. so i just got rid of those and that works... but here's my problem...

i already know how to do
passBoolean(true);

My question is when i have code that makes a variable either true or false, and then in a function something like

passVariable (booleanVariable);

Can flash do that?

Does anyone know how to pass variables to functions? it works when i pass a value to a function, like a number or something, but i cant find how to pass a variable that may be true or may be false, to the function.

Pretty cool, but yeah... it's kind of a backwards moonwalk. Their legs move like they're going backward. Walkcycles can be tough to learn though. Also, if you want to make something more complete using something like that, you need to keep in mind that slower computers cant handle graphics repeated so many times like that.

I used 800x600 until recently when we got a new monitor. It always bugged me when websites used bigger resolutions. Like my resolution isn't good enough for them. I've got 1024 now, though.

So why are you thinking about switching? ... because IGN is doing it? If IGN.COM jumped off a bridge, would you? :-p

Piconjo is shit. The fact that a lot of people on newgrounds like that shit, doesn't make him like howard stern.

Also... Newgrounds isn't like the government or the FCC. I actually think Tom Fulp is more like howard stern in that way. Some people dont like what's on here, but he's fought for the right to keep them here.

I just hope it can live up to anything near the books. I thought the bbc one was crap. The only good stuff were the lines straight out of the book, without anything added by the visuals or their performances.

well, only the improbability machine

I thought the improbability machine made perfect sense... I thought it was hilarious when that was in Madness Avenger. There's even a whale (and petunias?) falling in the background.

At 1/14/05 06:07 PM, MetalGoat wrote: I have the original BBC versions and their all full of British humor. I'm surprized that hollywood wants to remake somthing that most Americans probably don't know.

Most movies are made based on books that are much less known than Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. When i saw that preview before life aquatic, i heard a few people gasp when the words "DONT PANIC" came on the screen. Then people just started getting giddy.

You could save some time, not show the legs, and just have their top half moving back and forth a bit.

At 1/8/05 08:11 PM, wohoo19m wrote: It sucked, no wonder it got blammed. People are used to seeing front page quality stuff. Then they see that and you think it should of not been blammed?

Watch a few of the many many grey submissions that make it through. They're pretty damn bad most of the time. And i'd rather them be short and sweet, then dragging it out with a slow tween and a long pause. I think it deserved a 2 or so, which would at least get it on the site. I bet some of the uptight christians got upset by it and voted 0.

Also, people hate when things loop back to the beginning instead of stopping at the end. Probably could have gotten a better laugh by having it stop with the cats, and maybe superhero jesus in the background.

Put them in a symbol. Movie clip symbols are made for looping.

Lol. The animation kind of sucks, but it's funny enough to make it worth it. I definitely dont think it should have been blammed, but people really love their blam points, so they just vote 0 on everything.

Antartica is a continent, just like the other places listed on there. If we left it out, someone would complain that their area isn't covered.

Yeah, it's a continent, but i doubt you're going to deliver the game to any of them. And though some people stay there for years at a time, i dont think anyone really lives there permanently. I checked, and it looks like in the winter there are only about 1000 to 1200 people there. So if a couple of them with internet access happen to go on newgrounds, when they answer antartica in the poll, it would probably appear like a joke anyway.

You shouldn't let people say they're from antartica. I'm sure some people will do it just for fun, which could screw up your results a little bit.
