Katrina was a perfect opportunity that the democrats just couldn't pass up. Granted there were deaths and destroyed lives, it was nowhere near the level of carnage of a major armed conflict.

I hope sincerely that we haven't become callous and cynical to such an extent. Innocent lives are the mana of heaven for humanity, and it's saving grace. If we disregard them we aren't fit to grace this earth.

I'm more inclined to believe (perhaps naively) that a war of that magnitude would bring all sides together, much like 9/11 recent did (though be it temporarily). Death on such a scale, a draft that would shatter families and fill hearts with both passionate sorrow and pain.. could we be so petty?

Beyond political motivation, beyond reasoning, I see a soldier's death on the field as noble and pure. A man who falls with honor and justice in his heart is a hero regardless.

You raise some good and interesting points. It would make this pill much easier to swallow for us whites though if your community could stand united and seriously discuss terms with us. I'm baffled by a large proportion of blacks' propensity towards the destruction of their own culture. Why embrace such negative and backwards behaviors? Goodness I see quite a few though who stand tall and proud, my friends who make me smile so genuinely. I see those black comrads of mine come from broken pasts to stand at my level, so I know it's possible. It's those times I see rampaging groups of virulently disrespectful gangsta-rapper wannabes (both black and white) that I'm dragged down into the pits of resentment and disgust.
