I pretty much just combine resources. Either posemaniac or portrait photos.com. Posemaniac can be nice because they have s ton of poses and stuff like that. the portrait site is mainly just good for... well, portraits.

As for tips with acrylic paint, one thing that always helps is priming your canvas. Some of them can come pre-primed, but if you use something called acrylic gel, or acrylic medium (it's name escapes me at the moment) it makes the paint much more manageable. It will glide across the canvas, which lets you use less paint, and finer lines. Another thing you should always do is tint your canvas. Alot of the time you will find little white spots or something, and tinting your canvas, which is really just watering down paint and painting the entire thing. This is a good example. He is going to use cool colors, so he tints it with a cool color. Sorry for the lengthy post, I hope you understand what i'm getting at.

To me it still looks a bit off. It would look better at a bit of a bend. This isn't the best example, but you can see how on it how it's leg bends out, then in, and then its paw bends out.

Why is the outline around it not colored in all the way and why does the octopus have no shading? It makes it look incomplete and flat.

I think it really depends what you want in a program. If you're going to make a simple comic, then probably flash would be the best, just because it has nice vectors and is relatively easy to use. But just about anything can be used. Photoshop would be cool too, but maybe a bit complicated.

Metroid zero mission. I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing at the time (given, I was 9) and spent most of the time running around trying to find out how to get this super missile tank i found. It turned out you had it was actually a sequence break for early super missiles, but by the end, it took me about 30 hours to get to chozodia, playing over the span of a month or so.
