But what I want to know is, how would you go about adding something extra into the menu while still having the other things disabled? Like having a link to another site or a mute button.

Yes, it has improved a lot since you last visited. Now, if the photo isn't within the set parameters, the system re-sizes it. But if the file size is still too big, you have to import it into something (ex: GIMP, photoshop, paint) and save it as a lower quality.
