Find the stationary points of
f(x,y) = e^((-x^3) + 3x - (y^2))
and determine their nature.
Yeah I dont even know if my partial derivatives are right, and if they are what im supposed to do with them. I wish I could write out my process, because typing it out looks so confusing and messy!

Correct answer: the graph of ln x intersects the x-axis at x=1. The same is true for 2 ln x, 5 ln x, 3.14159 ln x, and any other ? ln x in existence.
When f(x) = 0, x = 1.
This is the right answer, I'm sure of it.
That seems right to me, however the question asking for solutions is worth 4 marks and the question asking for maxima/minima is worth 5, which fucking throws me off big time.
You can make the derivative of xlnx = 0, which gives an answer of x = 1/e.
Dunno what to do with it though...
But I want to say you were correct.

I study Astronomy, so pretty much.
However im doing quite badly.
Okay, okay..
Problem 1:
Find the stationary points of
f(x,y) = e^((-x^3) + 3x - (y^2))
and determine their nature.
Problem 2: (I think this one's slightly easier, but im not thinking too well)
f(x) = xlnx
Find the solutions of the equation f(x) = 0
Find any minima/maxima that f(x) has.
Problem 3:
If
z = (1/x)f(y/x)
show that
x(dz/dx) + y(dz/dy) + z = 0
(The above derivatives are partial derivatives)
Would be cool if someone helped..

Dont see that happening. My life's so much better since leaving this place. I remember back in the old days when people got upset about regulars leaving, it was like a big family. No ones here anymore, just a handful of the oldies, doesn't look any better if im honest. Guess it's subjective though, I left because I had something I thought would be better to do, and it was. Who knows, I may have still been here if I hadnt gone to uni.
Haha, im beginning to see how this could look like some elaborate publicity stunt. But im afraid im not here to stay. But I might look over some of my old flash animations :D

Haha, I realised after I posted this probably wasnt the best idea. Im a bit drunk and stressed at this paper, so I came here for some reason...
At the risk of sounding pretentious I dont think anyone will be able to actually help me, even if theyre a maths genius.
Interesting to see NG again though.

Why am I here?
Sup?
I havent been here for about a year. I went to university and discovered there's so much more to life! I've had my innings as an internet dweeby.
But now im alone in Scotland trying to complete a paper with none of my notes or books, and the internet can never give you exactly what you want, despite it being as big as Paris hilton's vagina. Help forums run so slowly aswell. The only forum ive ever known to run so fast is this one, but the chances of finding anyone who can help are slim.
Dunno why I bothered. But I guess it's interesting to see what's going on here after so long, sort of...
I dont know why im bothering here, but im desperate.

I've not really heard his stuff, just some shit he did live with Guns N' Roses, which isn't much to go by.
I've heard many people say he's incredibly diverse, and that's what I like with the guitar virtuosos, I particularly like them to have feeling and emotion in the songs, and Vai, Satriani and Petrucci do that rather well for me.
It would seem unfair to people if I were to judge him against Herman Li without having heard him, but im pretty confident that he's better than Li, who has shown no diversity in his music.

Heh well the thing is i havent written lyrics or anything, I was just thinking of a girl i like and some music started coming out, and it's got some spanihs flavour due to her being of that origin.
It's a little bit progressive too, but it wouldn't be a long song. I just like fitting in lots of melodies.

Chavs originated in out of town areas through teenage boredom. They were commonly known as townies, because they originated in the smaller towns.
Alright guys.
Im in this Friday night, been a while since I did that last.
Im in the mood for some rock n roll/hard rock tonight, so im just listening to Guns N' Roses, for the first time in about a year.
These guys are pretty awesome if you're on the beer and just want some good ol hard rockin'.

I can listen to them, but they're nothing special.

WHAT ABOUT ABRAHAM!?
I always loved that part, along with:
What about elephants?
(What about us?)
Have we lost their trust?
(What about us?)
What about crying whales?
(What about us?)
We're ravishing the seas;
(What about us?)
What about forest trails?
(Oooooooh)
Burnt despite our pleas!
Poignant.
Michael Jackson's "Earth Song" = epic metal.
Lmao.
Yeah well done to Scotland, they did really good.
I couldn't tell if England were brilliant, because playing Russia isn't such a good frame of reference.
But yeah no need for hostility...

I've probably enjoyed them both more than I have with Youthanasia. I dunno why, it just never clicked with me. Perhaps I haven't given it enough chance. There's only about 4 songs I really enjoy on that album.
On Cryptic Writings there's probably a few more songs I really enjoy, but on Risk I really dig most of the songs.
I think it's cool that their sound changed over the years.
What's wrong with Cryptic Writings?
And...Risk?
I love the follow up ad to this one, where female members of the public won the chance to appear in the advert.
Like you say, it's just full of complete riff raff, and quite possibly a collection of the worst drivers in the land.
The whole thing's extremely cheeky really.

Cos i´ve been thinking of doing just that, but i can´t decide which one to make the flash too. I´ve been thinking of maybe ´Pull me under´ or ´Surrounded´, both from I&W. I don´t know why, but those 2 songs get my imagination running and i imagine scenes and stuff....
So, which song and why?
I always thought The Glass Prison would be a good one, cos the metaphors in the song are quite apparent and that would help enormously with creating imagery in the flash.
Although the instrumental section would be a nightmare to fill up with animation...
I'd love to go, but £125 is pretty steep for me.
This topic makes me seriously fucking scared.
Im not joking.
