We're the heart and soul of the web.

Yah man, this site is the bees knees. It's the only site that actually listens to things I make. All that twitter, youtube bullshit is like talking to a wall.
It's so easy to fall behind if you don't partake in social media 24/7 and whore yourself out like crazy.
With Newgrounds its ok to go away for a while and then drop in for a "Hi" or a "Whatsup" and people won't treat you like a stranger.

Here's hoping for a great 2014!

To another decade of great crazy animations! Maybe throw some games in there as well.

I remember too. The minigame was pretty cool, zrb also made a preloader one as well. Due to the high number of parts (30) it is tough making that number to start with. It will be finished and released!

Funny how this thing took 3 threads and a lot of people coming and going.
I don't even remember if I ever PM'd you my part.

I know this thread is over a year old, but I coincidentally stumbled on here and it'd be funny if it actually would get finished.

Pico and Assassin, at the time, didn't risk putting the website out of business. This does.

Newgrounds got way too mainstream man. Soccer moms are visiting now? Gosh, it's almost as bad as facebook.
TO THE 4CHAN MOBILE!

No but, I haven't played it and I have no clue who this Sandy person is. I always tried to advocate provocative material, because of my excessive use of the internet.
But over the years Newgrounds got several major redesigns, and with that visual change, there were probably some moral/spiritual changes as well.

Sites like Facepunch and 4chan have managed to keep the same look and moral compass since they started. Newgrounds has gotten submissions that end up in festivals.

Pigpen is insulted and I think I would feel the same way. Change is hard.

I hope I made a small contribution to this discussion....I noticed this change a while back when people reviewed stuff negatively which would've gotten good feedback 10 years ago.

On the subject of the reviews. The review section has become more and more about pretentious kids that don't know what they're talking about and less about expressing an opinion.
Back in the day I got little reviews like "Ha, that was funny", now those reviews get flagged and deleted because theyre too short and "unhelpful"

If the review doesn't have a fucking thesis describing the good and the bad, it's considered "unhelpful"
Is this a stat-whore thing, or is the community getting elitist?

The thing about those two is that they don't do commissioned work though. Maybe Ricepirate did in the past, but now he does it very rarely.

Then there's probably some very good voice actors on here who are not very popular. And then there's the popular ones, but they might not even be considered "the best".

No gifs in the Art portal anymore?! Posted September 13th, 2013 in Art

I've uploaded GIFs to the art portal before, so when I tried to upload this and got an error message, I was super confused.

Is there a size limit now of some sorts in the art portal? Are certain things not allowed? Did the servers break because of my super awesome hentai skills?
I'd PM Tom about it, but I don't think he moderates the art portal. Anyone know who I could contact about this?

It just gives me a really bland "ERROR — Sorry, there was a problem with your request. Please try again later." -message, so I don't know what's going on.
I tried uploading something different to see if I was banned or something, but jpgs and stuff work.
Then I tried uploading this cute cat gif and it gave me the same message!

What happened to the art portal? Did they change stuff around?

Hey, I know OP's question has been answered, but I have a similar question:

How do you embed Newgrounds video files on your newspost or websites outside of Newgrounds (facebook/twitter)
I've just noticed that ricepirate has pulled it off, and I'm assuming he's using custom HTML. But I'm wondering if anyone here knows if its a feature on the site.

I can't seem to delete my swf file on my projects to try it out. And they seemed to have gotten rid of the feature to chose which file is seen desktops.

Any ideas anyone?

Response to: How to upload swf to website Posted September 5th, 2013 in Game Development

He has a website, but he doesn't know how to upload an SWF file to his OWN website? That sounds really weird dude.
Did he just use a template or a blogging site?

Thank's a lot man, now I know where the updated list is. Seeing all my scripts died with the redesign and I stopped caring. I'm also using Newgrounds+ now. It's like browsing Newgrounds on speed!

But back to the original topic:
The reason I prefer a preview button over re-reading what you typed, is because the background and font is different.
Then there's things like spacing, paragraphs, seeing if the HTML works and if the image is attached. These are all things you can't check by just re-reading your post in the editing field.

I've had so many occasions where I spell checked my posts and ended up overlooking one or two things and then I just feel like a dumbass. Whats the point in spell checking if you're going to miss something anyway? mite as wel not carez no more bout ur postz lol

It all has to do with how the text eventually looks on the board, and if there's already a greasemonkey script for it, what's the hold up?

Preview Or Edit Button On The Bbs? Posted August 23rd, 2013 in General

So the "edit feature" has been discussed to death on this board. But I think there's one thing that got over looked.
The fact that there's no preview button.
One half of the community complaints about not having an edit button, while the other half thinks something like that would get abused.
But I think if there would be a preview feature, we could put this whole debate behind us.

I get that the whole "edit button" debate is now kind of part of the whole "NG myths", but they did end up giving us that long awaited chat, which was also supposed to be a myth.

Anyway, I'm just spitballing here. I think a preview button for your posts would be a good idea, and could avoid lots of double posts and frustration.
And it would make people shut up about the edit button(even though no one is talking about it anymore)

But my submission didn't seem to show up in those search results. This confuses me.

I'm not good with the resolution part, but I can offer some feedback in this matter.
I would say that ultimately it's up to your own discretion. Some artists prefer photoshop, some prefer flash. One is vector based, the other is raster. I don't feel that flash detracts anything, it just has certain limitations that photoshop doesn't have, but it can still produce some fabulous work. JohnnyUtah does all his work in flash. So if you're enjoying the artwork that you can churn out in flash, stick with it!

Yeah, that's how I felt as wel.
Its just that reading that one post on the webcomic list caused some insecurity on my part. Seeing I never really did sketch/art work in photoshop (I mainly used it for design aspects) and flash always gave me more of a free feeling when it came down to illustrating. So I was just checking.
Thanks for your reply!
I guess for the resolution issue I'll just wing it.

Any Webcomic Artists Here? [tl;dr] Posted August 16th, 2013 in Art

So I've been fooling around with webcomics the past year, and there's always one thing that bothers me:
Panel sizes.
Or more specific, the eventual resolution of my jpeg.

Seeing I use flash, I started using the default stage size for each panel. But then I started experimenting and using different panel sizes, depending on what I was actually in the frame.
And after all this time. I still haven't found a size I would like to reuse. Mainly because I never made a template so I keep forgetting what resolution I used. Also, the numbers are just all over the place.

Then I did searched on the web for help with this, and most people suggested adjusting your size according to your website and common monitor resolutions.
This wasn't a lot of help, because I would like to be able to post these "webcomics" anywhere (facebook, deviantart, newgrounds) and most people have a big enough monitor resolution that it's not really something to consider (the searches I got in googling where very outdated).

So I turn to the art forums on my favourite art website: Newgrounds!
Hoping that I would get some quick and easy feedback, so I could go on and make webcomics for my own enjoyment without having to worry about what resolution I should use and:
A) Doesn't conflict with comic theory [doesn't break the big rules]
B) Allows people to read it seamlessly[not having to scroll to much or interferes with the reading]
C) Is easy to reuse for every type of comic [something I could keep as a template]

I have a small follow up question: (I know I'm asking a lot, but I'm very newat illustration and I only got a degree in graphic design, not cartooning)
Is it okay for me to use flash to do my artwork? Or should I consider switching to photoshop? I read that people dislike the lines and colouring from artwork in flash.

TL;DR
What resolution is standard for webcomics with 4-6 panels?

Here's some links to comics I've made in the past that could help with giving input to my situation:
These panels are too long.
These panels are too square
This has too many panels and theyre too small

Thank you for reading and I hope to get some help!
