First, you didn't post a picture to start your thread; did you even read the Art Forum rules?

Secondly, I'm pretty sure there is an Art Request thread, which includes finding an artist to help you with your project.

I'm starting to think this drawing will never get finished! haha

I don't want to give bad advice, but I would certainly get on with the drawing and add clothes or whatever on a new layer and see how it starts to shape up. Some of these issues might resolve themselves simply by continuing to fill in the image.

Mad as Hell

Every time I see Mindchamber's "15-minute sketch" topic bumped with new images, I start drawing a little sketch, but those sketches almost always go on for longer, and I don't want to give them up or post them in such a short time when they feel so unfinished. So I've decided to create a topic here in the art forum to put all the little sketches and digi-paintings that I do in Photoshop.

I'd prefer that other users not post their work here as I'll just be posting things randomly, without any kind of order or theme. I'm happy to receive feedback, though that is not the point behind the thread (FYI: trolls will be ignored); I'll also gladly offer answers or advice where I can if there are any users interested in picking up digital painting in PS. I'm not a master by any standards, but I've been using it to paint for a couple of years and it can be a lot of fun, especially when used with graphics tablet.

Anyways, LET THE TRICKLE OF MADNESS COMMENCE!

Hopefully I'm not overstepping the mark here by posting an image in response.

You could thicken the forearm on the left side of the image to help it look more proportionate, and as for foreshortening, the legs are the only thing that stood out as seeming a bit off with regards to perspective.

You're drawing is awesome though - well done! :D

I like to argue (when I can be bothered) for the sake of arguing. That was a shitty article from the late 90's, and we all know the 90's sucked, so.. that already spells bad news for your article. Also, men cause more fatalities by road accident in the United States than women - I'm guessing most of the users on NG are American males, but I don't know how many of you are old enough to drive, most of you are probably still waiting for your balls to drop. So, what I'm TRYING to say is.. uhh.. hmm meh *apathy*

It looks as though you are taking photographs of your drawing in order to post them. It could be that the angle you are taking the photographs at are distorting the view. Try and get as straight a shot as possible, because anything even slightly closer will look at a lot bigger.

I've made this mistake in the past, when I didn't have access to a scanner. lol

Other than that it looks like a nice, slightly stylized portrait. I'd maybe try tightening up some of the looser lines or even redrawing on fresh paper with more confident lines to help polish it as this looks a bit more like an initial concept drawing. I'm sure your lass will love it, either way.

From Imageshack FAQ:
"Does ImageShack alter, compress, or watermark my files in any way?

For images and flash, absolutely not. ImageShack strives to be completely non-intrusive, which means that ImageShack will not alter your uploaded images or flash files in any way. ImageShack will not add watermarks to your image or flash files, nor will it compress the images or flash files that you upload (unless it is bigger than 1.5 megabytes or if you resized it yourself)."

I just registered there in hopes of finding somewhere that wouldn't compress the hell out of the image, so I guess as long as the file you upload is less than 1.5mb, it should be okay(?). I had to reduce the image quality slightly to retain the resolution within the file-size restrictions.

Also, I'm pretty annoyed with myself because I've just realised that I posted the RGB version of my image, and hadn't worked/converted to CMYK (for print). Hmm, thankfully the colours don't appear to look much different. The version I'll link to on my profile will be in CMYK.

Thank Renae! Do you know a good place to upload our artwork on line that won't compress the image? I've been using Photobucket, but I'm worried that it compresses it down to web-res.

There's a similarity in our layout/composition - a centered, close up portrait on a dark background... fargggh..

Meh.
