BattleBlock theatre is what I consider to be an exception. It was never released on NewGrounds.

I think it's part of why Disney is buying up all the mainstay franchises like Star Wars and Marvel, because they see how much harder it is for new characters to gain traction in an age of endless new characters. How much of a cultural impact is ANYTHING having on NG, YouTube, the web at large and even television? Sure there are new cartoons you might like on TV, but do any of them achieve the relevancy cartoons had a decade or two ago? There are some cool new kids shows on Amazon Prime, how many people even know they exist?

I agree with that. I only used NG as an example because of how large of a community it is, and because It was one of the first websites of it's kind. There's so much new content that more often than not it gets lost in the shuffle. This is not the fault of any one person. As you said, even cartoons on television lack the impact that ones years ago had. I feel a series or even a one off that will hit that popularity sweet spot is just waiting to be made. We just haven't found somebody to make it yet.

As for the series' you posted. I agree, they are quality and enjoyable. It makes one wonder if there is a way said cartoons could gain exposure.

Also, we now know Tom Fulp watches kid shows on Amazon Prime. ;)

Ng: Lack Of Lasting Impressions Posted September 22nd, 2014 in General

(If you're a TL;DR kind of person, just leave now)

I've been a regular on Newgrounds for years. You wouldn't know it, since my old account was riddled with stupid shit I posted as a kid way too young to be here, and I never contributed anything under it anyway, but I've been here for a long time. I've noticed as the years go by and the site evolves that even though technology is progressing, content that leaves a lasting impression seems to be in short supply. Allow me to use the Madness: Project Nexus 2 "Newgrounds M.V.P" costume pack as an example. The aforementioned costume pack is comprised of NG's most memorable icons, it's "M.V.P's". However, when is the last time Newgrounds was hit with a game or movie that immortalized it into Newgrounds History? One could argue semi recent hits such as Time Fcuk, Toss the Turtle, Maybe even EBF or Dad (The Sakupen one, not the skull-masked one) But even those were released years ago. I'm in no way implying the content submitted to NG today is not "Good", but instead suggesting that said content is struggling to be memorable. This is not simply the fault of the authors of said content either. I believe one major contributor to this issue is the sheer volume of submissions we get now, as opposed to, say, 6 or 7 years ago. We've grown so large as both a website ad a community that the amount of content submitted, quality or not, is, for lack of a better term, clogging the system. Allow me an example. Somebody submits a game. We'll say said game is of exemplary quality and deserves a spot on the front page. It gets it's spot on the front page. Now, earning the front page spot only gives you that spot for ONE month, unless your game is a MASSIVE success. What is to keep a stereotypical user from picking that one game over the slew of newer content that is constantly being poured into the portal? Again, this is all theory. I am not trying to state this as fact, but trying to come up with possible explanation for my base question: "Where has the memorable content gone?"

A second possibility, one which I find very likely, is that the progression of technology, (i.e Adobe Flash) has in a way caused today's authors to be more lax in their creation of said content. Pico, for example, may not look good by today's standards, but was amazing for it's time, because it was made in Flash 3. I find it easy to imagine that earlier flash versions could have played a large part in the unique content of the time, because they restricted the author, and forced them to think outside the box. Today's programs are by no means simple, but the sheer amount of options that have been added no longer require the author to use that thought process of "How the hell am I gonna do this, and make it cool?"

Again, I'm in no way bashing the current content of Newgrounds, I only ask: When is the last time we've seen a Pico, Dad (The skull one this time), Bitey, FancyPants, or Madness Combat? When and Where do we look for new staples in flash animation? I'm not saying the classics should be forgotten, simply that eventually, new classics must come.

I was talking to a friend, and we figured there's a LOT of dirty things you could say to Adolf Hitler. I think there's way too many missed opportunities to make computer sex jokes as well. To make an example of my point, I'm gonna... type a little something here.

Oh, Mecha-Adolf, You've been such a Nazi boy. You deserve a good hard disk, I think you should put your D: drive in my C: drive. I'd get in the shower with you any day of the week When I scream, you have to push it in Fuhrer...

I need to stop. I'm going mad.

I could be mistaken but I think she tossed it out her car window, and they found it in a field or something, dusted the ants off, and sewed it back on. So no harm no foul.

Maybe, but still, Going through that, of all things. I'd rather die.

What tags are important? I could make a pretty extensive list of pointless and completely functionless tags that I would rather see fall out of use. I love me some anchor tags.

Fair enough. I can think of a few things we could do without, I see your point.
