Just finished making the new lazy nation intro movie, after an epic two day spree.
Finally we at lazy-nation have some spare time now, and will be submitting many games soon.
OH SUCH GAMES!

Anyway,

The modern king kongs are, but do a google search and you will see that the majority of classic king kong art uses shades of brown, and he was only black in the early movies because it was black and white.
The oldschool movie posters will show you true kong, in colour.

Set your sounds to stream instead of start or event.

When sounds are on stream flash will drop frames instead of lagging, and stay in time with the music.

Knox's style suits flash, what with the having still frames for ages and all. This allows him to make the image quality higher.
Since the average viewer is a total noob, when they vote they compare the quality of the images much more than they will compare the plot or cinematography.

Hence proper claymation (without pauses and stillframes) will get a lower score because it looks worse than knox's once transformed into a flash.
As you said, the gumbi claymation on lazy-nation is awesome, but it is also at a constant framerate. Check out the flash version of it submitted to ng, and see why the stillframe technique suits flash so much.
