Topic: Targeting Multiple Instances

Posted: 06/29/07 03:08 PM

Forum: Flash

I also just thought of another approach that would not lag.
Making every ground piece in one movie clip raw drawn, but I had also encountered another problem with my idea; unfortunately I am having problems making a hitTest on the occupied space of the ground movie clip only, instead it counts the entire square area of everything put together on a hitTest.
This is the normal usage of hitTest I use:
--if this,hitTest(_root.ground) {
--Follow Actions Here
--}
Know of any ways I could have it apply the hitTest only on occupied spaces in an instance?

Thanks,
- CheeseDude781.

I'll figure out a different way later, I don't think I'm going to individual actually make those many individual instances, I was just looking for a way to solve my problem temporally.

Also thanks for the advice on the loop, we'll try that.

As you can guess I am attempting to target multiple instances in ActionScript 2.
Two methods that would work in my situation are targeting all instances on one layer or all instances that have the same name.
Now, when I try to use a simple target to an instance named ground on the stage (_root.ground) it target's correctly and does whatever I want it to do relatively.
But say I need to have many instances that do the same exact thing on the stage and I want to target them all easily without having to go through the horrid troubles of targeting each instance individually with different names.
In my case, I may have hundreds of objects I need to do the same thing and need to be targeted relatively.

If anyone has any suggestions, ideas, or just plain answers, it would be nice to see them.

Thanks,
- CheeseDude781.

Err, sorry, I actually did not know you could compile it as an AVI in flash CS3.
Forget what I said.

Yes it is very possible, you have a choice of a few things, but the best two things I would suggest is live recording it using some live video recorder (Which is Quite Crappy) or using a smart, high quality converter made for doing such a thing like WinAVI Video Recorder (Windows Only).
You can just search Google for WinAVI Video Recorder to download for a price, but it's worth the money.

Late reply, but redistributing licensed applications is illegal especially if they're for commercial use.
No illegal stuff on Newgrounds is permitted. D=

Well I supposed it does have to do with programming, but in AS.
Oh well, I didn't see it as being more flash than programming. :-/

Hmm,
Over the past couple of days I have been trying to figure out how to add private variables to movie clips in flash due to problems with many particles in a certain game I am making; all doing one action at the same time because all of the particles are looking at one public variable.
I was wondering if it is possible to set a private variable in movie clips that will not be read by anything other than the movie clip to eliminate this problem.

Sorry for the bunched up load of text above, but if anyone knows what I am talking about, have any ideas on how I would set those type of private variables for a single movie clip?

Thanks,

Ack, too bad firefox won't play the music.
I knew what it was going to play by the link, and it would not have made my cry.

Go to an area on PhotoBucket where you can view your swf file, view the page info, find the swf in media (If you're using firefox), then put the direct link for it into an embed or object tag.
If you don't know what an embed or object tag is, become html literate please.
By the way, through my personal experiences, PhotoBucket is a sucky host and you should host it yourself on a web server, and if you don't know what a web server is, become computer literate please.

A madness collab?
I would think that people would have stopped making madness things by now, it's Krinkels' work, why does everyone imitate him?
And for all those insanely hardcore madness fans out there, don't flame me for this.
Madness tributes kill me a little inside.

Are you planning on stealing the original artwork of Dan Paladin that is Alien Hominid?
I don't understand why you need the graphics.
And if anything I would use something like Sothink SWF Decompiler or something to obtain any graphics.

I wish I could help, but I don't know what you are saying in any of the posts.
Are you saying that you want it to animate in one movie clip?
Are you saying that you want it to change after 10 seconds??
Are you saying that you want some sort of action to poke the changing of this movie clip???

I just don't understand what you want.
