Newgrounds is growing, and so are the forums. With this growth, comes more rules. Just a few months ago, you could post 'do a barrel roll', get a few lulz, and come out of that thread without a ban. Not so likely any more.
Now, i'm not saying I don't like the forums. This place is like...my home. It's still really funny, original, and helpful. But there has been a decline. The BBS will live on, but i'm not so sure about the lulz. I don't see the point to a lot of these rules too. Did you know insulting a mod is against the rules?
Wow.
/long post
Personally, I think most memes should die the same day are made. A lot of the jokes are esoteric, and can't be applied to the real world (though, if someone wrote 'do a barrel roll' for each answer in an a calculus test, I'd lol).
Like the "over 9000" video. It was a normal video that made me laugh when I first saw it. Then COUNTLESS of imitations and repeats of the phrase take away the funny in a heartbeat. And yet ironically, some people find it funnier when more people do it. For instance, the "you should've grabbed his cock" post is funny because it's absurd. It's funny when 2-3 more people post it. Then, for some reason, mass repeats are deemed necessary to maintain the hilarity, so most of the other posts will be 'you should have grabbed his cock' or slight variations of it.
Internet humor is funny in small does no doubt, but damn does it get annoying.
