Gawd. I keep forgetting the Newgrounds office is a 20 minute drive from here. I need to thank the guys before college hits me.

That Apple store is ALWAYS packed with people at the King of Prussia Mall. I'm honestly surprised because not even DOLLAR stores have that much people, and yet people are constantly in the Apple store to buy items with triple-digit-prices. At least you made out well.

I now regret not putting it in my favorites, but there was this catapult game that basically threw a ragdoll-like character horizontally and you could use (clouds?) to make you go higher/faster, and near the ground there were wrecking balls where if you touched, you had to press spacebar while a powerbar fluctuated and it would launch you very high/fast if you got it full.

If anyone could provide me with the name of the game, it'd be much appreciated.

It's college time for me, and I'm looking forward to an animation-related major. I already got in to University of the Arts and Drexel (digital media), and I am now waiting for the School of Visual arts.

From what I've seen and visited, these schools have good animation-oriented programs, but if anyone here can give me insight on any of these, or other animation schools/programs, it'd help me choose which one to enroll in.

Ah, but that spawned another problem. The button that is editing the health bar is within a movie clip on the stage. When the button is on the main timeline, it works, but when it is inside a movie clip, it does not work anymore. I tried the _parent property, but that does not seem to work. What can I do to fix this?

Yeah that was probably a mess up when I rewrote it, but ultimate the problem was capitalization when I tried to refer to a function. I Did not know capitalization mattered =/. Thanks for the help!

I'm making a trivia game that has health bars for school, and I want it so that when I click a button, the health bar, with a number over it, decrease. I have gotten the button to decrease the NUMBER by whatever value I want, but the bar remains the same. Is there quick fix to this?

I have this in my main timeline, with the text and variable called "health2" and the bar called "healthBar"

health2="100"
maxHealth=100
healthBar.width = (health2/maxHealth) * 100;

I have this on the actual button

on (release) {
	health2 = health2-"5";

}

By movieclip, do you mean the button?

So I put the code that establishes the variable where exactly? And just for an example, could you fill out your code with whatever I am pressing (the button) going at a number that is not 1, like 20?

Because all I have is a non movieclip dynamic text field that says "100" and a button (meaning, not a movieclip that is clickable but a button).

I am making a "game" for school, and need it so, when a certain thing is clicked, a health bar decreases by a certain number. I know extremely little about actionscript, but I've managed to make it so when I click something, a number on the stage decreases by "1". I want to add a percent sign to this number, and I tried + "%", but then I get the "NaN" error. Could someone point out the problem to me?

I have the health number called "health"

health = 100+"%"

And this is the code I use to edit the health

on (release) {
health = Number(health)-Number(1);

Now, regarding Soulja Boy...

My fucking god. How ironic, that the artist of the songs that annoy the hell out of me, no matter how catchy they are, is a flash animator. I really, really, hopes he goes into computer animation. It just seems more presentable then talking about about how you "Supermaned a hoe" or screaming "yahh bitch yahh".

Topic: Why does everyone hate Naruto? rant

Posted: 10/09/07 11:31 PM

Forum: General

Yeah Naruto is not the best description of "a ninja" in general, but then again, when was the last time you used stealth in Ninja Gaiden? "Naruto" aims towards the combat areas of a ninja rather than the stealth, because it's what people want to see and it's fiction.

I can almost guarantee, if this anime was underground and hordes of children didn't like it, it wouldn't be hated as much. If a lot of people like something, but you don't, then you feel that its your duty to make your stance even more radical to prove a point.

You need to get laid/you'll never get laid

This is a weak and naive statement. The person saying this implies "you are a loser, you can't get women, and you will live the life of a virgin." Because we all know the epitome of the perfect life is constant sex. A good job? Whos cares. An applicable talent? Doesn't matter. Improving the society? Fuck that. As long as you are having sex, you are good to go and your status can't go any higher.

Newgrounds is growing, and so are the forums. With this growth, comes more rules. Just a few months ago, you could post 'do a barrel roll', get a few lulz, and come out of that thread without a ban. Not so likely any more.

Now, i'm not saying I don't like the forums. This place is like...my home. It's still really funny, original, and helpful. But there has been a decline. The BBS will live on, but i'm not so sure about the lulz. I don't see the point to a lot of these rules too. Did you know insulting a mod is against the rules?

Wow.

/long post

Personally, I think most memes should die the same day are made. A lot of the jokes are esoteric, and can't be applied to the real world (though, if someone wrote 'do a barrel roll' for each answer in an a calculus test, I'd lol).

Like the "over 9000" video. It was a normal video that made me laugh when I first saw it. Then COUNTLESS of imitations and repeats of the phrase take away the funny in a heartbeat. And yet ironically, some people find it funnier when more people do it. For instance, the "you should've grabbed his cock" post is funny because it's absurd. It's funny when 2-3 more people post it. Then, for some reason, mass repeats are deemed necessary to maintain the hilarity, so most of the other posts will be 'you should have grabbed his cock' or slight variations of it.

Internet humor is funny in small does no doubt, but damn does it get annoying.

Those movies are usually forgotten in a day. They submit, people bitch, they laugh and it is forgotten within a week. I still submit movies despite spam, because it's not all that important if they don't interfere with the success of quality flashes.

When I see a KK flash...I simply just do not click it. There's a reason you don't see them in the top 50, front page, or win any awards. It's because they don't matter.

Weren't there similar complaints like this with the "Barney Bunch"? Didn't they eventually die? Unless they just converted to the Kitty Krew.

Haha I kinda knew Blockhead and Aladin would be instant "Best of August" movies.

But I'd be lying if I wasn't very surprised not to see my "Sonic: Nazo Unleashed part 3" up there
http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/39 6530

I mean my last 2 parts were in the runner ups for last August, yet this one got higher rewards and is in the top 50, yet I don't see it anywhere.

I wasn't expecting a surefire win, but I'm a bit surprised it's not in any of the lists. It's not even in the Sonic collection while the previous 2 are =/.

Topic: the lot of you

Posted: 09/12/07 12:30 AM

Forum: General

Well remember where you're at. I'm pretty sure most of the people poking fun at 9/11 felt bad at the time it occurred, or at least felt something. Over half a decade later, a lot of people have 'gotten over it'. A lot of jokes you heard today are found hilarious to some. Then you have people that just love anything 'edgy', or just want to piss people like you off.

I don't agree with either extremes saying "People die, deal with it" or "Families have been destroyed! Honor them!". The former is too cynical in my opinion and the latter seems unfair since I see families destroyed by shootings on the News at least once a week, yet I don't see flashes dedicated to "Mother's who have lost their children to city violence". So just try ignore the jokes. If you've paid your respects, then isn't that all that matters?

But it's a damn lie to think 9/11 had no affect on the world at all.
