BAMBOO FARMER AND BEAST MASTER/TAMER
Work on the farm for 2 parts of the year when the bamboo sprouts and needs to be cut back, and the rest of the time raising and training animals. I'd end up making a shitton of money since bamboo is a coveted renewable resource and have animals to play with. I'm torn on what specific animal though.
Either that or Arcade Entrepreneur. Make a boss VRcade with DnD experiments. Or an arcade in a bamboo forest..WITH DOGGY BUTLERS...THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS.
I'm still looking for a good plot with great topsoil thats cheap enough to be feasible. Sucks that bamboo has something like a 6 year (can't remember the exact duration) waiting period till you get your first return.

lol, i blame myself for that one cuz I keep forgetting about it =D I should probably make a habit of sitting in it to keep others there. Chat is pretty lame when its just one person /foreveralone But I feel like there are people that check it but don't join due to noone in it.
I'll try to see about getting in it when i get home from work around 10-11 pm EST. Maybe a set schedule for meeting there would help.

We'll figure out something, time permitting. :)
I'm glad you checked it out at least! I know its not a solution (and honestly, I don't WANT that to be a solution, just a temporary painkiller) but it feels like the closest shot I've seen given so far without having a real NG chat. I'm actually a little tickled that some users already put the tlk chat in their signature and didn't tell me. It's also received a bit of activity in my absence, though mostly from amaranthus, fmn, and chazdude, though there were a few others.
It'd be nice to see more lurking there, but thats just me being hopeful.
So wait, are you open to the idea of a third party hosting the NG chat client if ng accounts can be integrated with admin rights as the official solution? Or did you mean 3rd party for the temp solution?

I'd also like to show it has a dark theme in the defaults as well.
It also allows simple formatting like bolds, italics, underline, and bulleted lists.
I've emailed the creators on if there are any administrative properties to it.
Also, through Further perusing, it looks like the color scheme COULD be modded to NG style with some knowledge of CSS, it accepts custom CSS styles.

Doesn't require an account, nothing to install, and you can change the color scheme to dark colors for easy on the eyes feel. No orange/black, but grey/black is okay.
I've yet to check if its possible to use on a smart phone yet. Can someone confirm?
But its technically a public chat without a heavy resource draw or installation. It also recognizes URLS, allows for jumping to multiple channels, and it also looks like it has a Wordpress plugin, Not that we'd ever use that, but the option is there.
Of course, there's no integration with NG accounts.
Just wanted to throw this in as a suggestion as I'm not fond of G+ or skype.
P.S. It's also embeddable, so if Bren wants to embed it on the temp page for chat.newgrounds.com.........
I rather think the pirate sentai are the best.
Space pirates with super powers and giant robots that fuck shit up. I see nothing wrong with that. At all.
Fuck yeah.
NG still has loads of potential. But its obvious that certain objectives take priority.
My two cents on a plausible future:
1. Get the mobile features up first for accessibility.
2. Update the layout to look less cluttered/clumpy. Though I hope to it stays with the darker tones, they are much more comforting on the eyes.
3. Later on down the line once those 2 are taken care of and the site looks more presentable, I think NG could Innovate with new functionality. I think this site could do more with options based on collaboration, since that is one major part I've seen that sets NG above all the other media sites. Right now, the Team Up! option is great but its the only thing I really see. It'd be wonderful to have tools available on here for creators to make working with a team of actors and artists easier, like group art/voice/music production tools that could allow streaming with each other when working on projects. Creator conferencing tools if you will, like those shared drawingboard/chats that are out but based more around Flash/HTML5/etc. Right now, I have seen artists using combinations of VOIP services and streams to connect and get work done. It'd be cool to see NG become a place where all the tools are centralized on the site. Mind you, the bandwidth would probably be an issue, but tis just a thought.
4. Possibly turning a section of the site into educational tutorials and help for those wanting to create and don't know which avenue to go. I remember a while ago there were animations up that were targeted toward helping new creators learn flash, but I don't know where that could have gone to. I thought that was a wonderful idea, maybe add in tutorials (or links to free tutorial sites/affiliates) for programs and programming languages used to make NG Content!
There are probably hundreds of better ideas, but those come to mind.
Everything by everyone, Foreveryone.
This has way too much room for awesomeness. You could put comics, homemade stories, and it gives a good repository for excess books.
Also squirrels. I wonder how many people have put squirrels in these things yet and filmed the results. If none, then we know what we must do...

I dunno, I think that'd make a cool music video. Especially if the blown up synthesizers started playing while they were flung in the air by the explosion. Also, Fallout 3 is an okay game. Honestly, I liked FO3's cutscenes and method of presentation in comparison to NV, but I'm still playing through NV right now, so its still too early for me to say.
However, my one problem with the fallout games (and with many of bethesdas games), its very "collect heavy", in the sense that often you have to check every box in the room to find the item you are looking for. Often this turns into a routine for stockpiling, as thats usually how you can ever have enough ammo to fight with without spending too much money. Makes the game last more in the menus than the gameplay at times, which I dislike. This can be argued as part of the challenge of the game, but I find it to be a slowdown.

Arghh, but I don't like having skype running on my comp. I used to have it and it caused me havok with my audio settings when i tried to run other programs that needed the mic/speakers. Plus, it won't feel like a public chat, which is mainly why i chose NGchat in the first place since it was publicly accessible but not too public for abuse. And sometimes I just want to lurk without my presence being announced. I liked the irc idea, but it doesn't sound like its a popular one. Haven't checked into it yet though, so I can't have an opinion on it yet.
If the skype convo is a discussion about possibilities of getting a new chat on NG, I'll bite the bullet and join the discussion, but otherwise, it's just an extra hassle on my comp that I'd rather do without. No offense to any of ya, I just don't like skype and all its extra features that bother me.

Ah your right, I misread the post from SubParTom about locking the thread a few pages back, it was more of a rhetorical question than a threat. Mea culpa. And i can't edit my post to change that error. BAHH I'm not a good bbs person. I still feel weird about the POSSIBILITY of a conversation being locked down. But I guess thats a personal problem then.
Also, I agree that the stage of whining is over. Mourning won't bring it back and it'll just end up getting annoying.
All we can do now is look for alternatives, which have been done, though there won't be the open doors feeling anymore. I wish there was something that I or any of us could do to help pitch into a new chat. Unfortunately, I'm a terrible programmer and do not have the skills to create a chat client :( Might be able to pitch money (or just add it to a support NG thingy) if there would be promise of a new one within the next month.

I believe that was kenney's project for a little bit. I think there were issues with that as well but I can't remember what they were, outside of kenney not finishing that project. I could message him though, see if he still has it where that went.
I wanna just put out that I believe that NG Chat could be described as a kind of Dive Bar of Newgrounds.
Honestly, when I first discovered NGchat, I loved it immediately in the sense that it was so simple to get into, No bells and whistles just conversation in its naked form. Sometimes more naked then necessary, which brings me to the crowd of NG Chat.
The chat crowd gave a fair share of NG representation, from old farts who'd seen the beginnings to new farts who may never see the end. There would be the regular chat users and the guests that would walk in. Some would sit down to chat, some would take a sniff and walk right back out the fucking door. Some guests stayed but others would just leave when they were finished with the evening. Many artists and DJs would stop by NG chat in just the same way, though often as just guests. I loved having the chance to congratulate the ones I saw that would make the front page. Twas wonderful to wish people good morning or good night due to the wide audience of timezones NG has. The NG Community is something special in its own right. I may attend a meet one day when I get the time and money, but I digress.
It was lovely to see the reactions of the oldies to newbies and viceversa. And the sheer bluntness that people would chat to each other made a more entertaining night that I would often expect. Mind you, many of the people that were regulars on there, may not even be known to the bbs regulars. But the same can always be said vice versa. Probably few of anybody knows who I am on here, so who cares? Many of us were losers, few of us winners, each of us telling a story of some sort. Which is kinda why I think of it as a dive bar feeling. Some of the debates were nice...many were absolutely horrible and/or eye opening.
The chat once had video streaming, last year I believe, that turned the chat area into an impromptu Watch2gether setup. (Not sure if it was pico day that day? or one of the other meetup days) I thought it was brilliant, as it centralized the NG community together via stream and chat. I hoped that idea would grow, but looks like that never had the chance. It was a cluster fuck to chat in, but of course, getting that many people together in one spot will do that, even outside. But that was kinda the point of having a chat. Live communication. It actually feels like a conversation, not a bulletin board. Can give better emotion and pauses and all that shnazz.
Its sad to see it go, but I'm also sad the popular alternative (skype) requires extra account and installation. I refuse on that. The irc seemed nice through lack of account/program setup, but not if its over regulated then it's not worth it. NGCHAT had some regulation but it wasn't really outta hand outside of a couple instances. Tinychat seems nice but the colorscheme is godawful in comparison to NG. I'm not fond of BBS as my messages get lengthy from nitpicking/proofreading and sometimes I don't want my statements to stay on display for FOREVER. Also have a bad tendency of forgetting what I posted and never looking at the responses because memory is a fleeting thought.
Also, considering that the threats of locking this thread already exist, I don't feel like I have ease of freedom to discuss here. Chat gave a great deal of freedom, as long as you didn't piss someone off too hard and respected each other... ish.
Are the only options right now for alternatives Skype, tinychat, or irc? No other options?
I miss the divebar...
Okey doke. Chat is down for reasons of "Old chat is old chat" and had big security flaws that would have been better to shut down then dig through the code.
Understandable.
Instead of whining or lamenting, I say we move forward and plan ahead for the slim possibility of a new one. Now granted, the NG staff are busy and chat is not a high priority for most of the site. So, I think proper task delegation is in order, and this will likely have to be voluntary and at the goodwill of the Fulps and web crew. Lets get proactive here.
I would also like to raise a few questions/suggestions:
1. How long does it take to create a link to a new chat on the feature bar, as well as redirect the chat.ng.com domain?
2. Is it the lack of a secure chat alternative the reason why we have no current chat? If so, how hard would it be for use to hire/ask around for a chat developer? Could we Kickstarter/indiegogo a donation pool?
3. Would the next chat be better to have run in java/flash/mobile friendly medium?
Should totally change newgrounds for a day to "CISPA SAFE", with faux censoring and watchdog private messages. Could be fun :-D

As for the game you are searching for, I've played a great deal of Castle/Tower Defense games, but never one where you could build the castle yourself. I remember some featuring upgradeable weapons that were actually seen on the palisade, but that's as far as it goes, and I suppose that's not what you are looking for? I looked around a bit, but didn't found anything, but... I can't just post nothing so here's a few entertaining games about castles, without building abilities:

Hope you find what you're looking for! As for the original Castles game on GOG, have you bought/played it already? They work on any modern OS, so if there's nothing else, there's always that!
I appreciate the effort from both of ya, and yes I had the original castles and played it before, but I was looking for something fresh and more modern. I'll check out ya'll's suggestion in a little bit. I'm saddened the idea of a custom castle hasn't caught on anywhere.....
.....Yet. >.>
Oh i forgot to clarify. I'm trying to find a FLASH game of something like this, not a console or physical medium. Something to waste time on my laptop with.
(is there an edit button for posts? I thought i clicked one but it was just a signature thing.....)
I'm not much of a forum guy on here, so I hope I'm posting this in the right section. It's more of an inquiry than anything but I don't know where else to ask this.
I was in the mood for a castle defense style game, but not one of those where you have a premade castle and you are just creating towers or fighting off the ramparts with a wizard.
I'm looking for a castle defense game where you build the castle yourself, either with blocks or by drawing it out. There actually used to be an old school game back on the Amiga (and i think commodore as well, basically back in the DOS days) that was CALLED Castles that had the similar idea. You ruled as a king and would build a castle based on resources in your land and barbarians would come in from time to time to take down your throne. It was a simple, low graphic game but I found it to be alot of fun (and the diplomacy end of it was nice, though a tad meh.)
A link to a site selling it but has better screenshots of what I'm talking about: http://www.gog.com/gamecard/castles_castles_2 (i only played the first castles, which are the middle screenshots)
Another game that had similar qualities to what I'm looking for was Rampart. It was a game where you had sections to build a makeshift fort/castle and apply towers to shoot away invading ships. video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKp-XeRfytY&noredirect=1 I know this is basically a tower style defend, but it had the option of making your fort in whatever shape or size you like, with extra points if you were able to expand it to the other fort spots in the limited construction time.
So, to summarize, what kind of castle defense games are out that have a custom build of a castle? I've only found premade castle defense games.
If one isn't made, is anyone working on one? I'd be glad to help in whatever way I can if so.
At 10/25/12 05:45 PM, Tomsan wrote: Well you could choose to go for anatomy bodies like this
this is also possible in black and white, and you have way more classier versions of these. This would eradicate the skin problem. and partly the age question.
Since you have pretty much variables I would suggest that you first figure out somewhat more what YOU want. Also I would provide samples of what styles you like.
Its great that you want to involve the artist in the design, but they will do this anyway and I for one am very confused by reading what you want in the first few paragraphs and then suddenly you want capt america???
Also a question like 'should it have shading or background' kinda makes it seem like you have no idea what you want. You have the "what should my tattoo portray" down, but now the actual graphic part needs to be elaborated a bit more imo.
but idk maybe someone knows exactly what you want.
The captain america remark was just me being a bit facetious, that'd be a horrid idea, apologies for bringin it up. Lets eliminate that variable and keep it Atlas.
I believe you're right though, I do need to elaborate more on the graphic details I would want personally. But thats part of why I'm asking on here, to get more insight in what I should focus on for decision, as well open up a discussion or suggestion that'd get the idea across. And now after some more discussion with others, I've been given even more variables to consider, augh =D...
But I like the idea of the muscles only, that WOULD solve the gender problem. that gives me the idea of an Alex Gray approach to this picture, like this which would help offset any creepiness that a skinless body could have. Hmm...that might be an excellent idea as it eliminates almost all of the variables.
Now that I've given it some more thought, I realize that a background would probably cause too much clutter, and take focus away from the metaphor.
I guess i need to take more time in thinking about this. I'm getting impatient and not realizing the lack of definition to the portrait itself. I'll repost on here if i know more of what I'd personally want. I thank you for helping me with clarification though! This will help me explain it to the Tattoo artist.

A tattoo is a permanent thing, and not something you should spare expense for. And you will likely get a much better quality design if you're willing to pay.
Yes, I'd be willing to throw down on it (300 being the max target i could handle atm), I just want to make sure I have a well thought out and easy to copy design for the tatooist to work with, as well as they will probably add in their own flare for it.
And thanks for pointing out the world size option, didn't think about that.
I think it'd be possible to exaggerate the size of the world, even cartoonishly. hell it might even get the idea across better. And it doesn't have to have the entire world, but enough to show that Atlas is trying to hold it, maybe even with difficulty where the friends are holding it to steady it. Say, showing the bottom half of the world on his shoulders while the friends steady it on either side, like a triangle, the friends being the hypotenuse.
Ack, the post didn't accept my picture. Here's a link to a small image of Atlas for those who aren't familiar with the Titan: Atlas
Hi there, this is my first post into the newgrounds BBS (that i know of), but I've been active in the chat room for about a month or so. I'm not too big of a forum person, but BrazNinja suggested me to post here about this topic, and I think he's probably right that I'd get better responses and support from the talent that swims these waters.
I've been trying to figure out for the past decade if I'd like to get a tattoo and what to get it OF. A tattoo is a serious decision as it will be with me for my whole life, so it better be something i can stand to live by and not make me regret when i see it. Naturally, I'm hesitant.
However, I've decided on what my first one will depict, based on a phrase I picked up from a sci-fi series (Callahan's crosstime saloon, if your interested). The phrase goes "Shared pain is lessened, Shared Joy is increased" (thus do we eliminate entropy), and its a phrase I tend to live by, as Empathy is one of the prime virtues i Uphold, and will continue to uphold for my lifespan. How i could depict this was a puzzle for me for the longest time, till one day it hit me.
The picture I see best representing this would be similar to the classic image of Atlas holding up the World. The tatt design would basically be an Atlas like character holding up the world, but He/She wouldn't be in pain, but in fact laughing and joyous because he has two friends on either side helping hold the world up, they too also being joyous or merry. This keeps the shared pain and shared joy idea. As well as being a FUCK YOU to Ayn Rand =D
Now if I was any good at drawing, I'd try to sketch it myself, as i know I should since tatts are a very personal thing. But my skills with a pencil are 0 to suck. My hands shake too much and my perspective on a 2d plane needs work. heh. thats why I'm here posting to see if anyone would like to help me design this. there are also alot of variables I have been considering that make this even harder.
For instance:
What Sex and Age are the friends?
Will they be clothed?
Should they be Sexless? (I'd kinda prefer this, so as not to be exclusionary to a sex or transex peoples)
Should it be in color? (although I think it'd be easier for this one to be outline, and then color it in later, as color will infer race, and I'm trying to make this relatable to the Lowest Common Denominator)
Should it even be Atlas? (THe thought of Captain planet holding up the world would be interestingly amusing due to my activities in Activism, though i HATE that mullet)
Should there be a background to all this?
Shading, timezone, etc.
Sorry for being a long first post, but i wanted to share a good portion of the details I've been mulling over. Any discussion, criticism (hopefully constructive but I'm open minded), or further ideas are appreciated. Again, I'm just hoping on volunteer help, I welcome anyone to steal this idea if they like it. And If someone ends up making a design that I love, I will try my best to post results. Again, i'm not a big forum guy (and I pray i haven't violated anything with this post), but I will try to keep up with this.
Thanks for taking the time to hear me out!
