I hate the new trend of releasing consoles and only really having 5 games come out. Remember back in the day when each console hade like 15-20 exclusive titles that were must haves, and choosing a console was a major decision. All this new generation did was make me hook my Dreamcast back up.
That giant wall of text belongs in the collabs forum.
When your flash movie gets up to 10,000 frames, you're going to need that power just to be able to work smoothly and keep everything synced up properly.
So I guess it really depends on the length and complexity of the animation you intend on doing. Just imagine also a strong proponent of future proofing so that your pc won't be out dated a month after you buy it.
You're going to want something with at least an i5 intel processor (NO CELERON PROCESSORS!!!), and as much ram as you can afford to pack into the thing. Don't buy 2 graphics cards just because you have two slots for one. People make a common mistake of thinking that using a combination of 2 high end graphics cards will combine the performance of both, but you'd be better off just getting an affordable mid-range card.
I don't recommend getting a laptop unless you absolutely have to have one for the portability, because you'll want something that you'll be able to upgrade over time.
If you can find a local computer shop (and not like, a best buy), you should be able to find a decent custom build for around the price you're looking for. Plus, they can put whatever additional parts you want in there while you wait.
That better not get blammed, cus it was great.
Going to art school is somehow both amazing and terrible at the same time. Everything you said was spot on, except we had "real artists" always looking down on us lowly animators.
Good stuff, can't wait to see more.
What format are you trying to convert it too. I've had problems trying to do full uncompressed video, but I just figured that was because of the file size.
Does this happen when you use the default settings, H.26?

Shit, I posted the wrong video, I meant to post this :The Animation Academy - US Dept of Labor Animatio…: http://youtu.be/nWNKJnXnuZ8
Just do a short test and see if you like the way it looks.
I think the biggest factor is time. I'm really envious of the ability to just bust something out really quickly in live action. I love animation, but sometimes it can be downright agonizing to have everything take so long to produce.
It would probably be a lot less work to just draw some simple backgrounds with flat colors.
A few of them were able to beat him and get to Piston Honda. This is like a commentary on modern games, like you should be able to figure out the basic controls and rhythm of a game without having a 30 minute tutorial or that stupid controller chart they show at the beginning of most gam so.

Yes... I really am prepared to pay $2k for a beast tablet.
So I want to know some good games to play on it. Its a 12-inch touchscreen. The games can be either Windows RT, or Windows games.
Man, for what you're paying you could get a monster of a desktop and be able to play anything.
Paint Tool Sai is really good and cheap. It's like 50 bucks.
Oh man, I totally forgot about Mario Paint! I made all kinds of stuff with that! I had a vhs with everything I ever made on it; I wonder where it is now?
I've always wanted to be an animator since like, elementary school. I remember they used to have special marathons for Bug's Bunny's birthday where they would show classic behind the scenes footage of all the old warner bros. animators working at termite terrace and talk about how all the different directors had their own way of drawing bugs bunny. Seeing that really solidified it in my mind once I had proof that it was an actual job done by people.

You must not have watched the videos...
I suggest you to take art and animation classes before you talk about this kind of subject if you don't know about it. ;)
Hopefully that will help you to understand and educate you what animation is.
I hope this helps a little.
You must not be familiar with this guy's website...
Flashkit.com is okay if you're desperate for sound effects. I've also had luck just searching for specific sounds and effects on youtube.
IMO, Japan has reached a point where they have mastered limited animation and are kind of kicking our asses right now as far as 2D animation is concerned. Anime catches a lot of flack because of the low frame rates and choppiness, but i feel nowadays that's less of a budgetary thing and more of an aesthetic.
Ralph Bakshi said that (and I'm really paraphrasing here) that anybody can do amazing animation when you give them 3 and a half months to work on a single sequence and they have time to do hundreds of tests; but that the real talent is in television animation, where you have to produce the best animation possible within an extremely limited amount of time and budget.
I mean you take a series like Space Dandy and tell me that what they are doing on that show isn't real animation.
Get ready, this is going to be a giant wall of text:
A long time ago somebody told me that in order to be an animator, your drawing skills have to be at a pretty high level to be successful at it. The theory behind this is that you don't want to be worrying about how to draw while you're animating because you want to be focused on working out your timing and motion.
That advice was given to me back in the 90's before the advent of Flash and a lot of computer assisted animation where the quality of your animation was ONLY determined by your drawing skill.
Even though that advice was given to me in regard to old school, classical animation, I think it still applies today. We live in an age where anybody can open flash and tween a bunch of shapes and then call themselves an animator. The thing that's going to make you stand out is your draftsmanship as an artist.
I would suggest spending a lot of time working on paper before you start using Flash. With paper there's no bullshit, you either draw the shit right the first time or you don't; That fear of messing up is what will make you a better artist because you will become hyper aware of your weaknesses, plus you can focus on learning to draw without having to learn a new computer program at the same time.
Soooo, TLDR: Get a sketchbook, carry it around with you at all times, draw in it all the time, and practice animating on paper making flipbooks so you don't get bogged down trying to learn the in's and out's of a computer program.
I like RWBY a lot.
I like that it looks like ps2 video game graphics and the action sequences are awe inspiring.
It's crazy to me that they are able to produce episodes so fast considering that it's being made by like, 10 people.
Wow, thanks for all the replies, this is all great stuff!
@Back-from-purgatory: Your stuff sounds great, if anything I would probably want to use one of you pre-existing tracks
I think Rays10 is closer to the kind of stuff I'm looking for, especially the stuff with the vocals.
I appreciate all the suggestions, keep em coming!

Come ooooon
Are there any artists here on NG that make J-Pop sounding, anime stuff like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UVEtY_QaO4
I have a couple projects that I want to make anime style opening credits for but I'm having a hard time finding the right sounding music. Doesn't need to be in Japanese, but I want the music production to have a similar sound.
Or if anybody is willing to make stuff from scratch?
Anime studio is the cheapest option.
There's also some free programs like Pencil, plastic animation paper, and synfig studio.
And there's another great program called Monkey Jam that's made for capturing pencil tests if you're working on paper.
Everybody seems to underestimate anime studio, but it's great for cutout animation.
Toonboom all the way for traditional fbf.
