People are dumb. The Offspring didn't really 'sell out', they just made a crappy album (Americana). Conspiracy of One is a damn good album and except for Original Prankster, there's no way you could argue that it's simply made to appeal to the pop audiance. They have evolved into a somewhat 'lighter' sound, but personally I think it's good. Same way with Green Day. Yes, they took it even farther, and their older stuff is far better, but Warning is still a good album. Just because a band gets popular or starts to have a 'happy' sound, oh no, we better stop listening to them even though we still like them but we'll say they suck just to be cool. Fuck that shit.

Everyone should probably, at some point in their lives, "pull a Thoreau" and find what they really want out of life. Materalism sucks. It deatches people and causes problems that theu just try to cover up by buying more stuff. The only things that I own that I really care about are my CDs, my books, my cat, my computer, and my car. The rest of it doesn't really matter. Well maybe deodorant. The problem with consumerism is that it allows people to drift through life with no real purpose, just to be entertained. There is much more than that. I think that going off somewhere isolated just for a week can be very insightful and allows you to ponder what you truly want, not what the world tells you to want.

Anyway....man, I live in Missouri, and the weather is just absolutely great outside today. And yet here I am on the computer.

I think the most annoying book I ever read was "The Great Gatbsy". That bood drove me nuts. I mean, it is extremely well written and the underlying themes and concepts are good, but the majority of the book itself just sucks I think. And then when you have to read it for English III I about shot the teacher for going overboard with the symbolism. For the love of God.

It is a fact of life that people are going to judge what you say by your apperance, which is why the Internet is very good. We have changed that a lot, but it is still there and will probably always be there. The parent who posted first on that Canadian website was simply concerned with his kids. NG is not a site for kids. When he said "I don't know if it is legal" obivously doesn't know much about the Internet anyway, where everything is legal except child porn. Penny Bain is definitely one of those conservative types that believe if the whole family can't view it, then it shouldn't exist at all. But the U.S. has the First Amendment and other countries have similar provisions that protect the freedom of speech, except when it puts other people in direct harm. NG does not put anyone in direct harm, although you might argue about the Tom Green footage, heh.

Well said cableshaft. Grunge has evolved, and yet is still alive. Bush's last album, The Science of the Things, although having some electronic stuff mixed in, was still very much grunge. Pearl Jam released Binaural last year, a very good album but departing from their orginal sound. Stone Temple Pilots managed to release No. 4 last year as well, despite Scott Wieland being in jail. It is a mainly a mix of sounds from Core and Purple, with some Tiny Music mixed in. There is a definite "post-grunge" sound to it, espically in "Down." Yes, rock is changing, we'll just have to wait what sound emerges.

Breed and Very Ape by Nirvana, Spoonman by Soundgarden, Crackerman by Stone Temple Pilots, and Yellow Ledbetter by Pearl Jam.

I believe someone's already done the Uncle Sam thing before. Anyway, more fun with our good friend Penny! And yes, I realize this is pretty immature to take out anger like this, but it's still pretty funny. This is a lot better than posting comments on her article like "You're a fat bitch."
