Response to: Art Portal update = Unscouted Posted June 28th, 2009 in Art

At 6/28/09 01:22 AM, Alanosborn wrote: I have awesome artwork too

There are a number of reasons you could have been unscouted. You could have been scouting a whole bunch of kids that did not need to be in the portal, or the person who scouted you (or someone even higher up in the tree) could have been scouting a bunch of art that wasn't up to portal standards, and got pruned. So everyone under them got unscouted.

This really isn't a big deal at all, all of your art is still there. And if your art is as awesome as you say it is than I have no doubt in my mind that someone will rescout you as soon as possible!

Response to: Not clear to me Posted June 27th, 2009 in Art

You can still upload pencil sketches to your userpage, just don't check "include in portal". The Art Portal is for completed and polished pieces, it doesn't need to be filled with pencil line drawings. If you have a refined pencil drawing or observational drawing, than go ahead and upload it to the forum. Otherwise, just leave it on your userpage.

Also please read the Art Forum Rules before posting, all new threads must have an original work of art in the first post.

And all Art Portal related questions can be asked in the Art Portal Thread

As excited as I am about a new artist in the forum, could you please read the Art Forum Rules before posting, you'll see that all new threads must have an original work of art in the first post.

[IMG] codes don't work here, so please use the "include picture" option underneath the text box.

welcome to the forum :)

yes, you are doing something wrong. Please read the Art Forum Rules before posting, if you did you would've seen that all new threads need to have an original work of art in the first post.

As far as choosing multiple previews, which is what i think you're asking, there aren't multiple previews. Everybody chooses one thumbnail that will be the icon to click on to see the full image.

If you still have questions about the art portal feel free to post them in the Art Portal Thread, or if you just have general art questions post them in the Art Forum Lounge

Response to: Check Out My Webcomic Posted June 26th, 2009 in Art

Well i won't knock the humor and characters because people have already pointed that out. You do need to decide on the style that you are going to do the comic in though, there isn't any confidence in the art at this point. My advice to you, is if you are not going to have color than you have to clean up your lines. Since there is no color what we will be looking at is line art, and if the line quality is poo than the art goes down the toilet, so to speak. Same thing goes for the 3rd and 4th panel, if you're going to have large areas of black, make them solid black. You want to be aiming for bold lines and bold use of black, otherwise it just comes off as looking rushed and unfinished.

And your panels, they are a complete mess. They're almost perfectly symmetrical on the page, fitting 6 panels all the same size in the page. But each panel is skewed a little, so that the left panels get progressively smaller, which draws your eye in that direction and makes you pay less attention to the all the panels on the left. If you're going to play with the positioning and sizing of the panels, than go nuts, but just try and remember basic composition so you don't cause other panels to be ignored. But if you want them to be in even parts on the page, don't mess with the size. In the future try drawing out your panels beforehand, instead of the images. That way you don't accidentally draw the images too large for the panels.

Response to: Human Anatomy Posted June 25th, 2009 in Art

Austin! Breakin the rules!

You do have a picture in the first post, but it has to be an original work or art by you, and it doesn't quite look like something you would draw ;)

Generally this kind of stuff gets posted in the Art Forum Lounge, someone will be able to help you out.

Response to: Motivational Posters Posted June 24th, 2009 in Art

No. The Art Portal as it stands now is not for photography, motivational posters would be fine as long as you drew them and designed them yourself, and that they are rather well made.

However fail pictures have absolutely no place in the art portal, or the art forum for that matter. Unless they are extremely artistically done, which they never are, they are not art.

Also please read the Art Forum rules before posting here, all new threads must have an original work of art in the first post.

The Art Portal is still very new and is going to have kinks that need to be worked out, so i'd advise just being patient. The staff probably know that there is a problem.

If you really want to discuss this than post in the Art Portal Thread
