He still looks like he doesn't give a shit, and we know nothing about the new Dante's personality. The only discernible difference is that he doesn't have white hair, and he went from wearing an oversized red jacket with a big collar to an oversized red jacket with a big hood.

that's how bad this is right now.
But I don't think he's all that different. I've posted this pic before, but if you give him white hair he looks just like every single other Dante. I honestly feel like if he had white hair everyone wouldn't be bitching so much. For all we know his hair will turn white at some point as part of the story.
I don't mind the new character design, I think it's a perfectly reasonable design for say a 19-20 year old Dante. Yes it would be nice if he still had his trade mark white hair, but I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't addressed in the story at some point.
At 9/15/10 05:38 PM, ZpLiNtEh wrote: Yea, it's shit.
I really don't see the issue. He seems like a perfectly believable younger Dante, and if you give him white hair he looks exactly like the older designs. For all we know his hair will get turned white at some point as part of the story.
At 9/15/10 08:10 PM, Brelm wrote: what the fuck are you talking about? have you even played devil may cry 1, 3, and 4? Dante has never acted emo or flamboyant (except in 2, but we just pretend that game doesn't exist). sure he's a douche but that's what gives him a personality instead of this new guy, who will, and I quote, "Fight real demons as well as some personal demons"
i'm pretty sure you never played DMC 1 3 or 4
I've played every single Devil May Cry. He hasn't acted emo but he usually looks the part. The current character dresses just like the older Dante, he just has black hair and is thinner so everyone is pulling the emo card before we know anything about him as a character. When I said flamboyant I don't mean his personality, but whenever it comes to combat he always goes for flair and makes it look good. That would be called being flamboyant.
I know that him being a douche is what gives him his personality, I wasn't saying that as a bad thing. That's one of the reasons I love Dante, because he's a big cocky douchebag who kicks ass. The new character seems to follow in the same footsteps.
As far as that quote, you could probably use the same quote to describe every single DMC game. In every game he fights demons as well as fights with the issue's about his past and being the son of Sparda (usually physically not mentally).
I just don't see why a cosmetic change is that big of a deal. All the mannerisms are still there. I could not have known it was DMC, and they could not have said it was Dante and I still would have thought "Man Dante's looking thin."
I just think it's way too early for everyone to start bashing the game over something so trivial as a character redesign.
At 9/15/10 05:28 PM, DeIirium wrote: It's not that the new guy isn't similiar to Dante. It's still not the same character.
I guess this is not what I'm understanding. How is it not the same character, aside from the fact he looks different? There's been no information about them changing the backstory or anything yet. All we know is he's considered a delinquent (opening with him chained up in a youth correctional facility), and that he's still fighting demons. I don't understand how he's any different aside from the cosmetic changes.
The key word here is REBOOT, it's not going to be exactly like the original, then it wouldn't be a reboot. If you don't like the direction they're going then don't fucking play it, but there's no need to start bitching about how it's ruining the series.
:I don't like how you fight with a shapeshifter weapon instead of a sword, for example.
I think it should be cool. Welcome change my friend, instead of having 4-5 weapons to choose from you can have one shapeshifting weapon that can turn into new toys to play with as the game goes on. The weapon may be different but the gameplay can still be exactly the same. May just be a sword as the game starts out, but can turn into other stuff as you progress (just like how you collect new weapons in the other games).
New DMC character design to appease the masses
At 9/15/10 05:14 PM, Maverick-Alex wrote: Looks like they are making it dark and edgy serious type. You guys remember what happened the last time that Dante decided to act serious.
The over all art style seems darker, and despite how much I hate the word, yes it seems they're going for an "edgy" feel. I don't think Dante is going to be a serious character like in DMC2 though, as far as character goes he still seems like the same Dante, just looks different.
I guess I'm the only one who sees this.
At 9/15/10 04:57 PM, DeIirium wrote: They didn't just change the look of a character like they did in Infamous 2, they changed the entire character completely..
He still looks like the same cocky douche, who has a flair for over the top combat that we all love. While this is a reboot, they've already said this is supposed to take place before the other games. It may not be related to them, but strictly in an age sense Dante is very young. In my opinion the new character design reflects that.
I don't see how you're assuming that he's 100% different from Dante other than that he looks different. From the trailer he still seems like a cocky asshole. Which in DMC1 and 3 that's pretty much the extent of his character, and since those are the closest to this new design chronologically I don't see any issue as far as character goes.
The reality is that this is just the first teaser trailer, there's no story, no gameplay, and very little dialogue on Dante's part. It's a little early to be saying that he's nothing like the original Dante, let alone make any assumptions about gameplay.
New character model released to appease the masses.

Meh, I understand that part but people need to be open to change. Raging out against a reboot of a beloved genre because they're changing it from what you expect is dumb. For all we know, this could turn out to be the best DMC cry yet. DMC has had the exact same character model forever, people need to learn to welcome change.
I personally think it would be awesome if they redesigned Mario to be some heroin addict.
At 9/15/10 12:30 PM, DeIirium wrote: I'd rather play as somebody who looks like an anime character rather than somebody who looks like a Twilight character/heroin junkie.
I'd actually much rather play as a heroin junky than as Dante.
Coming from someone who loves the DMC games, I could not give two shits about them changing what Dante looks like. He's always been a flamboyant emo douche, the only difference now is he lost some weight and has black hair. OH NO
The game has always been focused on the combat and the gameplay. Getting angry about such an insignificant thing like them changing the look of a character is dumb.
First everyone bitches about them changing Cole in Infamous 2, now everyone's all bitching about Dante. Since when was the gaming community such a big group of babies?

Lol am I really the only one who doesn't give a shit about them changing how he looks? He looks like the same emo douche that he looks in all the games, except he has black hair now. WOAH
I don't get why everyone's getting so angry about such an insignificant thing. I think the character looks fine. They already said their intentions are for this to be a reboot of the series, so let them play around with the characters and come up with something new. The game's probably going to be a ton of fun, letting something dumb like a new design for Dante ruin it for you is dumb.
Same goes to anyone who was pissed about them changing Cole for Infamous 2, you are a baby.

Hey how about you be a little more melodramatic. She's not saying you can't talk about it, this just isn't the place. Look at the general stickam thread, this thread shouldn't be much different than that. Just post the current links to the rooms, and making snarky comments about what's going on in the chat, or to post stills of what everyone's missing is fine.
This thread is not for ongoing discussions. That's what the chat or the lounge is for.
If you want to have a political discussion maybe you should go to the Politics forum. That is what it's for after all. If you guys explored outside the art forum every now and then you'd know there's a whole thread about the Mosque in the general forum :P
So everyone get it? We're not silencing the masses, just want you to keep the discussions in the chat or in the lounge.

Well I'm not living on campus this year, so it might be different from any problems you have. I know when I was on campus I just had to give my Ps3's MAC address to tech support and they registered it with their server.
For the place I'm at now, for some reason whenever I try and do a connection test it will find the IP address but immediately fail to connect to the internet every time. If I go ahead and just try and sign on anyway, it'll connect and everything will work fine. That or I just keep trying to sign in until it does work, but ultimately works eventually.
Found out a handful of other people in my building who can't get their Ps3's to connect to the internet, then I found 1 person who figured out how to get it to work.
And that man became a god.
I can't get my ps3 to connect to the internet at the place I'm staying this year at college.

I don't own a 360, but I liked the little bit of the multiplayer beta I got to play when it came out. It's nowhere near enough to make me consider getting a 360, but I did like it much more than the previous Halo games.
