As I recall the number of votes required before a submission passed or failed judgment was at one point increased because certain crews were coordinating among their members to vote a submission as good and worth keeping even if it was of poor quality. Glad to see that this apparently is no longer an issue to deal with.

Our system will create a temporary 46x46 thumbnail for new submissions and existing 46x46 icons will remain in use until the big change takes effect.
OK...so will iconhelper.php accept 140x90 icons? There's not much point in people continuing to donate their time to make 46x46 icons, afterall. I can accept that the hundreds of icons I've made in the past on a volunteer basis are going to be trashed but will not bother to make more that I know are ultimately destined for the bit-bucket.

What did everyone get for Christmas?
Turkish delight. Four boxes of the stuff.
Also, a novel by one of my favorite authors, a couple of gift cards, some very nice tea and a couple of new teapots.

Along with trojans and other malware. I hope those laptops come with software that keeps
them from becoming somebody's zombie.
There is also software for drawing, programming, making music, writing, web browsing, calculating, gaming, etc.
Any mention in the literature as to what access they'll have to anti-viral updates?
We are already planning to make a second donation so that we can get two laptops in the office, and test out the networking and sharing capabilities!
I'd be interested in here the results of those tests.

One by one, the leftovers from the redesign launch are falling into place!
That's good, Tom.
Here's something else that needs to be addressed:
If a flash without an icon has a link on its page that invites a user to make an icon for that flash, it would be really nice if it actually facilitated the uploading of an icon for THAT FLASH. As it is, the link just sends a person to the wish list, and the given flash may or may not be on that list at the present time.
To make it clear what i'm writing about consider this flash:
http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/39 0720
It has no icon, but neither is it seen on the webpage that lists the flash in need of icons at the present time. If a user wants to contribute an icon for *that* flash, he/she is SOL because there's no way to upload the icon for that flash the way the pages are currently coded.

Why would you give a flying fig about WIRED? Judging from the articles i've seen there,
the editorial staff and/or the reporters who write for them take a short bus to work.
Meanwhile, new ideas keep bubbling up every day. I don't know what to do about it so I just get mad about it and loath myself.
Some things take time, Tom. Keep plugging away and it should turn out alright.

What's really sad is that I redesigned the header to look like a generic web 2.0 header, but people actually liked it more than the regular header, so now we need to debate black buttons amongst ourselves. I guess there's a reason why the web 2.0 trends exist.
The gradient on the orange buttons is nice, whereas the black buttons looked kinda flat.
Now, black buttons with a gradient to give them a sheen effect...that would be really good.
But whatever. I'm not terribly fussy about that sort of thing myself.
Though i do think Tagalog would look really good on those buttons for a day or even for just
an hour or two.

Let's not forget what a user page is supposed to be. It's supposed to be a user's page.
Questions: Does this pending user's page replace the personal profile page that currently
exists? If it's something that is in addition to the personal profile page, will users have the
option of *not* having a personalized user's page here on NG, or is it going to be some
sort of auto-generated boiler-plate page which users can later modify?
If folks have the option of holding off on creating a user page until they're comfortable
with locking themselves into a particular nym/URL that might be a good thing. Also, folks
with a net presence elsewhere might not particularly want yet-another-page-to-maintain
here at NG.
You're right that names have a stickiness to them and that people are slow to learn to
associate new names with people, and certainly it's in the interests of the popular artist to
keep the name he/she is best known by, but for folks who have a fan base that can be
counted on one hand with some digits left over (like me), i would think it better to have the
option of re-making one's own image. People also tend to expect certain things from artists
based on their names, so sometimes being able to change the name helps the potentially
interested audience find the flash it would be interested in watching/playing with.
At 11/6/06 08:26 PM, TomFulp wrote:
The question is... Do we allow users to change their names at this point? If you change your name, you are essentially changing your URL, meaning all existing links to your page will become dead links.
I wasn't aware we had the option of changing our nyms in the first place. Heh.
As far as the problem of deadlinks go, is it really such a problem? Yeah, people outside
of NG who link to specific pages at the NG site might find it a royal bother, but the person
most hurt by something like that is the person who would change hir nym on a frequent basis.
Unless, of course, you're suggesting that there are NG members who are such jerks that
they'd flip names just for the twisted joy of creating dead links so as to give the NG servers
busy work.
I suppose if you and liljim (or whoever codes for the site) wanted to be extra nice to people
outside of NG it might be possible to write a script that keeps track of nym changes and
redirects to the appropriate page when someone uses an outdated URL. My experience with
a site that does not allow nym changes is that when a person really wants to change hir nym
the person creates a new account and either migrates the old material to the new account
or simply abandons the old account. Would that create less or more mess for NG than
finding a way to allow folks to still change their nyms?
And thanks for the headsup. I'll give some thought to it as i'm kinda tired of the nym i
currently use here.

Instead of dealing with seven dropdown boxes, you can just write your review and pick a single number between 1 and 10 to represent your final opinion.
Thoughts?
The individual scores can help a person decide what it is that needs the most
improvement when he/she makes another flash. It can also help to underscore
that it is that reviewers really liked about a given flash. I've noticed that the
written portion of reviews often are not very helpful in that respect-- many reviews
are "that rocked" or "that sucked", and in the latter case often without really
making any effort to explain what the reviewer thinks needs to be improved.

I've been using Opera (i hate IE) and voting worked fine when i voted on some
stuff in the portal this morning. It stopped working when i tried to vote on some flash
on the list of stuff that needs icons made.
As of a minute or two ago, it looks like the voting panel for voting on flash has been disabled. Is it being worked on at the moment?
