This Weekend
On my weekends I usually work in WHSmith. The same goes for this one. Granted, it's around £40 I would otherwise not have had, but it sure is DULL.
Have you ever received customer abuse?
Once a customer told me I was filthy whilst I tried to help her find an envelope (she didn't want a pink envelope for the card she was buying, so she asked me to find her a white one). I had the hiccups at the time. After three minutes of fastidious searching, she piped up with the following:
"I'm sorry, this is just unacceptable"
" :D ?"
"This really isn't very good customer service at all. You're filthy and getting finger prints all over the cards and you're hiccuping, which is disgusting. Please leave me alone"
"Sorry, ma'am, I can't help the hiccups"
"Yes well-"
"And I'm sorry if I can't help you, it's hardly my fault whether the card has a pink or white envelope. And as far as my filthy self is concerned, I'm afraid that I haven't had a break for three hours now and am not allowed to go upstairs to wash my hands as there is only one other person on the shop floor"
"I'd like to speak to the manager"
"She's not in :D"
Alex aka BritishMoose walks away.
That was merely one example of an overly fussy customer, there have been many, many more. It's funny, 'cause one can tell which customers are most likely to cause a Ruckus: they're generally middle-aged (late thirties to mid-forties), female and well-spoken. It annoys me that such people walk into a shop and expect the sales assistant to be completely subservient regardless of what little respect they show them.
The aforementioned woman called up the next day and complained to the manager. Apparently I was filthy and obnoxious. Pft.
People sure are pathetic some times.
