Month 3 of No Studio Computer

I want to write orchestral music so bad I started recording songs on yamaha keyboards at my work. Used up all 5 user song spaces on all 9 keyboards we have out that can record. I guess moving on to the korg keyboards now. The sounds on them suck so hard.

Response to: Paid Gig: Audio Needed For Rpg Posted November 6th, 2013 in Audio

Never did I think I'd see newgrounds audio members complaining about a good opportunity to make money with their music.

Totally unnecessary.

Thanks for the heads up Kyn. I'd love to submit some entries but alas my studio comp is still on the fritz. OCGG is awesome, hope they find a good match.

Darn, my humor was lost on misreading the OP

So yeah, same basic principles apply. You can only extract the vocals successfully if you have both a regular and instrumental version of the track that are identical. Otherwise, still fucked.

Good luck again!

Response to: I hope it's the right section Posted November 3rd, 2013 in Audio

Unless you have both an acapella and full version of the track that are identical (literally just vocals exported alone timed the same and all), you cant remove the vocals entirely. If you do have those, great! Just reverse the phase on one and export em out together. Phase cancellation is a beautiful thing on this rare occasion.

But in the more likely scenario that you dont have those, best you can do is using an intelligent spectrogram based editing tool to pick out the fundamental and harmonics in of the voice. Good luck on whether or not it will totally mess up the track though, because even being that surgical with the removal will still remove information from other instruments, particularly snares, guitars, leads synths, or potentially anything in the 200-3000hz range depending on the voice.

Most people toss out an attempt to do it with an EQ as well cuz those are easy to get ahold of, but thats just a sloppier way to do harmonic analyzed based filtering, and you'll just end up with worbly muffled vocals and a bunch of lumpy dead spots in the track, reducing the song to a sound similar to a record carved into a large pancake.

So in short, the most likely scenario is that,,,,you're fucked!

Hope that helped, good luck!

Very cool! I'm in the market as well

Dude........me too. Are we all secretly buying cars and just not talking about it?

My friend has suggested 3 models he claims are currently worth checking out. (hes a mechanical engineer and designs car parts and robots so naturally i trust him):

Scion tC
Toyota Corolla
Honda Civic

I myself looked into them.

What I've noticed is that these are 3 cars that contain the same reliability and general fuel economy as their higher end models. The camry for example is great for all the reasons the corolla is (plus some extras), but you'll drop a higher price tag on it or get it with more miles on it for the same price as a corolla. And the same goes for the civics versus other high end models and scion with theirs.

The point is, those 3 are the lowest level model you can get while maintaining the good rep and quality of parts for lastability. There are probably others out there worth looking into but those are the sound advice models I know of so far for getting true bang for buck.

I gravitate towards the tC. Yeah its a 2 door coupe, but the thing is rock solid. Good parts, good space, same features as civic and corolla. The trade off of the coupe is that theres a little less space, but the two advantages to this model are that A-its a semi hatchback so its good for tall people and has more than standard coupe space, and B-its got more horsepower and weighs less and both looks and drives a lot sportier than the civic or corolla.

Seats fold down on all 3 so you guys can fit gear in there too =P

Did I mention some tCs look super badass too? Cuz yeah some of them definitely do. I know it shouldnt be a factor but this is my second car and my fucking focus hatchback looks like a soccer moms car with a trampstamp and I have to stroke my man ego from time to time.

TLDR: Check out those 3 cars at the top of the post, cuz they dont suck.

Cant use anything copywrite at all without permission.

However, the laws on copying melodies, progressions, and emulating soundscapes are far more vague. So just create whatever it is youre trying to do with original content and change a few things here and there and you'll be fine. You might not be original, but you'll stay outta trouble that way 99.9% of the time.

I'm inclined to agree with the goldfish rapist.

Its great that you want to share those pieces with the community and all, but its definitely meant to be a creative commons site at the moment; where everyone can share and use each others work.

Soundcloud is good for it, so is a personal website if you got one.

Also, i'd just like to mention that the korg microkey kinda kicks ass as far as action on any mini-keys keyboard goes

So yeah to contribute to the thread; I use an MPK88 with Hello Kitty Stickers (I've zoomed in a bit for a more elegant view of the kittens). I enjoy it thoroughly.

Silly question but what do u mean by bussing?

proper routing for using the mute plugin effectively. if its your drums you want to mute then it would be smart to have a subbuss set up for all your drums so you can just use one mute.

hm is this the only way?

I personally think its easier to automate the mute plugin on and off. If you have proper bussing than that should be the easiest way to do it.

Feel free to experiment a little with that but generally in EDM you dont want to pan anything low frequency very intensely. Keep things around or under 10% panning.

Also, dont use that as a cheat for getting them to work. A lot of people "hide" things in stereo, when what they really just need is better EQ and sidechain compression. Always double check a mix in mono to make sure things actually sound good together.

What exactly do you mean?

One scrolling trick is to push in your mouse wheel and drag, that gives you both X & Y axis scrolling simultaneously(both playlist & piano roll). Another is if youre on your playlist you can hold shift and hit the down arrow key to automatically scroll down to the lowest placed track. Also, on the Sequencer PageUp & PageDown allows you to switch which channel group youre looking at.

Any of those what youre talking about?

At 10/22/13 10:17 AM, 8-bitheroes wrote: hey guys, bk again, i have a bassline and i want to add some automated wobble to the end of each bar, how do i do this?

Automate the cutoff on a lowpass filter is the basic way of doing that.

Add a fruity free filter, change type to low pass with top left knob if its not already that, then right click cutoff(freq) knob and select create automation, then adjust the automation to your liking on the playlist.

I suggest messing with the resonance or "Q" setting as well to get a more pronounced or less pronounced wub. You can also play with other effects fading in and out to make more interesting texture. Chorus, Flanger, Distortion, Formant filters, compressors, EQ sweeps, etc.

Experiment, fail, learn, repeat.

Nexus2 Complete goes for 3 grand.

With that money you could get NI komplete ultimate, zebra2, z3ta, sylenth1, synthmaster 2.6, east west symphonic orchestra, omnisphere, trillian, arturia v-collection, and youd still have a grand left over for whatever.

Bang for buck just about any other choice is more worth it haha.

I was one of the beta testers for Ohm Studio.

It's definitely legit but I'm not sure how much its going to catch on. They were in beta for well over a year and its popularity kinda faded away. Also, like Reaper, it won't be showing its face in retail stores which makes it hard for backing organizations.

Plenty of other companies have overcome those struggles by just being awesome though, so lets hope thats what it ends up being because I for one hate the process of collabing the way most do now.

no i dont plan to sell it as a Fender

Why sand off the Squier logo? I mean if it was like Peavey or Hamer or something I'd get it, but Squier has a legit reputation these days.

NEW TOYS

Behringer CMD MM-1 and PL-1. Modular dj midi controllers that ship with deckadance 2!

I'm actually even more excited by the software than the hardware. For those that dont know, image-line makes deckadance and the new version kicks traktor and seratos butt!

I'll be running FL11 performance mode with Deckadance as a VST so I can combine live synth playing, clip launching, and standard DJing into one act.

Gonna be siiiiiiiiiiiiick

Response to: 8Dio's Eight Wonders Posted October 12th, 2013 in Audio

EW Hollywood packs still sound higher fidelity then those demos. If this is affordable, then it might beat out the lower library competition, but knowing how expensive the adagio strings already are I gotta wonder if its even worth it.

Don't get me wrong I love 8dio for their hydrid tools, requiem, and epic drums, but I'm not sure this will be any kind of huge milestone. I think it'll just be another viable library to chose from. Its a lot darker sounding than the others out there so thats something kinda unique.

But seriously this question is pretty vague, can you elaborate on the trouble youre having?
I've had the full version for a few years now, man.

Well free upgrades for life man, you should pick up FL11.

Whenever I change the BPM it switches back to 76 or whatever when I hit the play button. I WROTE THIS SONG 6 MONTHS AGO MOTHERFUCKING GRAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I have a thought although it may be wrong. Set the tempo to 75, then right click the tempo and select "init song in this position"

See if thats the issue.
