I've tried this before with the best (opinionated statement) composers in the audio portal. It never worked out.

You can try, but I can go ahead and let you know that it's doomed to fail due to one person(s) leaving, or simply not putting in enough effort - and trust me, that's exactly what will happen.

Topic: Fruity Loops Question: Samples

Posted: 06/01/08 07:22 AM

Forum: Audio

You cannot, as there is only one sample to play in the sample player. I don't use fruity loops, but a good solution for you is to go and download some Soundfonts for fruity loops built-in soundfont player. You can change the current channel to a soundfont player by right clicking on it, selecting "change to", and then clicking fruity soundfont player.

Of course, there are other channels to explore rather than playing samples that are overused. If you know how to write music, then I would also suggest downloading Sibelius 5 and using VST's to play it if you don't have a band or orchestra.

When recruiting a composer, it's always a good idea to give us some information about your project. I've worked with quite a lot of game designers and they all never failed to provide solid information about their game.

You mentioned you wanted something classical, yet what sort of style would match this game of yours?

You're a strange one.

Anyways.. I'm trying my best to help you out, Sleepyfox. Is it a performance issue? Is the program or software you're using not meeting the deal? All I can say is just experiment with different things. Try different situations and different settings. Hopefully, you'll come up with at least something that matches the description of your melody.

No lack of inspiration, but I can't get it to come out..

So how would I make this happen.

I'm having a hard time understanding exactly what you mean. Is it sort of a writer's block deal? If so, then just get out of your chair. Look around and notice the things around you and how they move or remain inanimate. Clear your mind, and sit down again. If needed, relax for a while and don't stress your brain over it.

If you need inspiration, then I suggest listening to music that's in your genre. Listen to some styles and how they are played. It may give you new ideas and just play with your keyboard until you get a good pattern. Every musician's had this problem before. If you can't get anything out right now, then that means you're out of ideas for the time being and you should wait for a couple of days until you get new inspiration. That's all I know to tell you.

Posted: 05/30/08 11:46 PM

Forum: Audio

There are no plans to add new genres to the audio portal. You need to put your music in the appropriate genre or it will be zero-bombed by presumptuous cocks.

Unfortunately, the main focus in the audio portal now is getting it updated fully. As you've noticed, not all of the links work, and there may be some bugs overlooked. Therefore, there is no design outlook for genre additions or features of that nature.

Also, this new system inflicts itself on the old songs as well? Because I know a lot of songs with an overall rating of 9.8, though they don't deserve to be that high.

We do not know this, yet it is a concern of mine. Yes, what if this new score system inflicts itself on the old songs? Oh well, it'd be best not to worry about it until it's finished. after all, there's nothing we can do except complain about it.

That is what's been planned to be used as the new score system.

How do you know the redesign will actually do anything to help voting when it comes in who knows when? At least if people are voting and the song score is being balanced out, we know that people are voting. That's what this is aiming for, songs to be balanced out properly. Quit the crap (Note From Bosa: This is a classic, and unoriginal idea this person thought of which makes him look more of an idiot and corrupts all of his grammar.) OMG REDESIGN WILL FIX EVERYTHING because it won't. Whatever the voting system is, there will still be zero voters that we can't avoid. It won't affect the scores songs already have. The redesign isn't gonna magically fix all the scores of the songs already out there. Some effort actually needs to be put forth to make a change instead of just waiting for something to change itself.

I think I made it pretty clear to you that you're not doing much at all because your music is just going to get zero voted again and again when it's recognized and has a fair vote. I really don't see why you keep complaining about it, you're not helping anything and nobody wants to listen to whinny bitches who don't do anything about it except try to hopelessly vote five to people that beg for them. Really, be patient and forget your past work, because there's nothing you can do about it except wait for the redesign and demolishing of zero votes.

But Wait!! Now if ParagonX9 had posted this thread when the redesign came out, maybe we really could have made a difference to old songs. But, it's too late now.. oh well! Unless people are still reading this when the redesign happens and they decide to follow through with it, but that's highly unlikely now.

The reason why the little redesign keeps getting pushed back is because you idiots keep begging them to do more, and more is something they can't make right now. I have a list by Tom Fulp here which dictates many important redesign features of the audio portal. If I were to show them to you, then it would give you more things to complain about and you'll probably end up bitching that it doesn't add all that you wanted. Which you already managed to do in your post. What you're doing now is like trying to rebuild a town when you know a flood's on its way to destroy it. There's just no more sense to this whole mess, so it's best to just shut up and wait. Then, if you're still feeling happy and generous, vote fairly on the songs; it'll be worth more than it is now, I assure you.

The people who feel their scores are sub-par, but their songs aren't get their song properly rated and paragon gets the satisfaction of having a cleaner audio portal.
But then it would be just like the audio adverts...

Maybe start a list of people here who can help rate/review songs on request (is there a song review request club already?) and people can pm them to "check out their new song", or "I just got 0bombed can you help me out?"

What does the people think?

Ugh.. "The people" as you call us, oh heroic noble, are not pansy asses who beg for five votes after they post their songs when they known damn well good that they're going to get zero votes and they know damn well good that the audio portal is corrupted, yet they keep posting their tracks regardless of this message; then they complain and zero vote others out of pure anger and dickery. The audio portal is very well open for criticism and opinions, and that is why I like it above Ad-infested/company controlled "Indie" audio sites. Also, ParagonX9 is not a leader of the audio portal, and your term "little people" is ridiculous and highly offensive. The audio player that plays her music on the audio frontpage (as you should know is the source of what publicity she has today) shall be demolished and replaced by a new audio player which plays the picks of the week. Uh oh! There's one for the "little people!" There is no monarchy of the portal and decisions are best left to the ones that can handle them and not to a bunch of squabbling dolts that oppress zero voting even though they do it often themselves.

Enough picking. I believe this is a good move, yet I know that there are very little people who's going to comply. It'd be very rare if anybody is going to be overjoyed at voting a five for somebody else that is in their own genre. Now, if somebody from techno asked you classical men for help, then you'd probably say yes as a good sport. Yet, another classical man asks you for help, I don't see many hands; because to you, he's a competitor in your main genre. Heh, The voting system is so badly shit on that even if you do go and five the odd numbers, it won't make much a difference at all. It's so brought down by zero votes and fives that it can't be brought up by 3 points. Pitiful.

Your efforts are for nothing, wait for the redesign.

(Watch me get a truck load of zero votes after posting this. Ah, I can see you idiots now, "Uh oh. Looks like I've got my dick caught in my fly. Guess some zero voting is in order!")

Sigh.. I respect what you're doing Paragon, but I've been through this so many times before. My music is periodically zero voted by arrogance, jealousy, and idiocy. Even with this team of people you can't stop zero voters. By what I've witnessed, there are a lot of zero voters just standing by on watch. You may not have had to fend off zero voters before, Paragon, but the audio portal was overlooked too much in the past and it has rotted. We could clean bits and spots of it, but our efforts are pointless. Promises made for the redesign shall be broken, and I have solid word from a man that is launching this redesign to prove it. I just wish there was a way to defeat zero voters and let the songs that are truly deserving shine with glory and might.

Of course, if you are not willing to listen, then my efforts here were pointless. I can't see much coming from this redesign, and I'm not planning to stick here for long is nothing happens.

-Bosa

And then they upload it and vote 5 on it right away. They see other peoples work, and with complete disregard to considering how much effort may have been put into that song, they 0 it. To them, losing an hour is nothing. To the seasoned producers who spend well over 6-10 hours on a single track, that one single 0 vote is a complete insult to their efforts.

Which stems wildly in why so many people get angry and leave. It's like writing a book, and then having somebody rip out the pages so they could fill in the space with their own words, in which the pages are double spaced, size 40 font.

Rage, I'm glad you understand how some of us feel about idiocy. Yes, audio that should be a masterpiece and featured with 10 Grammy Awards is usually destroyed and ignored mostly here on Newgrounds. Zerovoters are enemies that cannot be defeated because they will always have power over your hard work as long as Newgrounds allows it. Most of my tracks take around three to four days to completion and when I find out that they are zerovoted, it's just a horrible thing to see. Something inside pulls you down and anger takes the place of excitement. I don't blame some great authors for leaving the Newgrounds audio portal, they just don't want to deal with it anymore.. at least until the promised update comes along.

Heh, heh.. however.. if something that I remember is that your enemies always have a way to be defeated. I've been unsuccessful and the more I submit, the more frustration I get because of zero votes. I've been trying to stand strong, keep submitting and making allies, but it seems that jealousy and arrogant-minded fools just keep tracking me down and destroying me. You know, the audio portal is wrongly ruled at some points and there ARE better audio submission sites out there that have fairer voting rights. I can even believe that some more publicity comes from other audio sites. However, there's just something about Newgrounds that I can see hope in.. and that feeling of hope is has kept me here standing today.
