Code Monkeys doesn't give out their sprites, and for the love of god, look at how the characters are drawn, I could redraw everyone from that show perfectly in 8-bit if I wanted to.
You could also create them in Game Maker or something, save it as a .jpg file, then just open up the .jpg file in Flash to use.
If you still want to do it, e-mail the creators of that, and gain permission to make it using their sprites, CREDITING THEM WOULD NOT CUT IT, but I think most everyone, even the creators of that show, would probably like you to to make your own characters to use in a tribute.
I generally highly disagree with the above post.
Does Nintendo, Sega, or even Capcom give out their sprites? No! Then how the hell do we get them? Through ripping! Since when has anybody ever needed the game company's permission to rip sprites? I could go release something I ripped myself (without permission) on The Spriter's Resource and not get penalized! What exactly do you know about ripping sprites?
In this case, you don't even have to rip the sprites. Just copy them, because they are so simple to draw.
And as usual in sprite movies, crediting would do, as long as a disclaimer was present. Why? Because it insures that you do not own the characters and therefore you aren't stealing them.
Also, authorblues, since when did Mario and Sonic not have well-developed characters? Especially in the case of Sonic (see Sonic Adventure), you can see that they need to have a nicely-developed character before creating a game off of them is needed, and the development needs to be even more prominent when a story as intense as SA's is present.
There. I don't see why this is any different than the normal spriting phenomenon.
