Yay, I almost thought my animation was going to enter some odd loophole since I submitted it so late on Monday... good to see that didn't happen. Thanks for the daily first, everyone!

Apart from the excuse to drink
We have parades too.

So does Thanksgiving, the fat holiday. Yay for fat holidays. Most people attribute this holiday to the drinking, though. And pinching. Drinking and pinching, what a lovely combination!

Topic: Cartoons and Bad Habits?

We totally newed a few thousand more people saying it's a hookah. I don't even know what a hookah is, to be honest, but I know what a bong is. Hookah's sound fun, though.

In any case, yeah, cartoons of old had a lot of bad habits. Not to mention like EVERY old cartoon character uses some kind of gun or firearm, y'know? Dangerous times, I guess. That or animators of old all smoked, so they liked their characters to have similar interests.

Questioning

Topic: Movie or game? Opinion needed.

Ok, so recently I've been working on an animation with a lot of interactive elements in it. Essentially, it's just a big menu, but every section of the menu has a different little 10+ second intro. I wouldn't call it an animation exactly since all the animation is chopped up in between the sections, but I wouldn't call it a game because there's really no gameplay. Well, no gameplay beyond mouse clicks (which isn't just buttons, you can cut leaves off a tree and crush flies and whatnot, but it's still just clicking), but I suppose you COULD consider that gameplay. And I've littered secrets in it, so I guess finding secrets could be considered gameplay too, I guess.

But I don't know if I should consider it a game or just an animation with a crazy complex menu system. What do you think? SUPPLY YOUR THOUGHTS KINDLY.

Topic: Hiding a layer with actionscript

Forum: Flash

I was wondering if anyone knew if it's possible to hide an entire layer in the cartoon itself using actionscript? I was wondering because I'm wanting to add subtitles and have an option to have them turned on or off, and each scene would have a layer that'd be nothing but text.

Topic: Problem with frame rate...

Posted: 10/08/03 03:55 PM

Forum: Flash

Ok, here's my problem. Any time I set the frame rate to anything above 19, the sounds from the next scene play before the it goes to that scene! For instance, lets say I have two scenes, and the frame rate is 24. Now, I have the sound of typing in the second scene, but when playing it in .swf format, the sound plays during the first scene, near the end, and all the sound gets misaligned! I don't know what to do... is it a problem with my computer? Or is there a way around this? I use different layers for sounds.
