Also the graphics in .swf files tend to look cleaner than .wmv and it also allows for the opportunity for more interactivity and special effects that would be very difficult to pull off in other programs.

Yeah, don't wreck my rep, people! :D
Just kidding...
Any constructive criticism on this thing so far?
Hey everybody.
I'd like some feedback on what I've so far worked up these last few hours...
A few seconds of random, unfinished, keyframe animation
Hopefully this collaboration will come to fruition. It's kind of cathartic to be playing with a fast paced fbf rather than what I normally do (and am supposed to be doing now).
Awesome, thanks for addressing that...
This should be a good collaboration. I'm very excited. :)
I have a few questions about your collaboration.
Is there absolutely no place where an image can exist for more than a single frame?
What backkground color will be used?
What stage size will be used?
Is there absolutely no tweening? Say for a background image to slide across or something.
I have no real frame-by-frame animation on Newgrounds, but I'm interested in working up my skill in that department while I'm working on my current tweenimation... And this sounds like a very compelling project, if you'll have me. :)
Thanks.

My absolute favourite Flash's are the one's with deep emotion, characters with real feeling. Most of them have scores of about 3.8 because they're a little left of centre (IMO they should be in the mid 4's), while huge action filled Flash's with explosions and... I'm so going off on a tangent.
Basically, do what you really want to do, just don't change how you animate to accomodate what you think others want.
Don't feel bad about that. I mean, the kid was asking what people wanted to see. Using such keen trend spotting ability you could probably make bigger piles of money than you could ever know what to do with as a Hollywood producer. ;)

Beautiful! I love the darkly whimsical style. Like something from a fucked-up childrens book. Ohhhhhh....

Heh.
Personally I'm awful at action script, I couldn't code a real game to save the world.
I just know some extemely basic stuff to use in animations and menus and all that.
So it sounds like you're already better off than I am.

Lately it seems people don't understand the concept of quality. What makes a movie or flash gud.
There is no set template to what makes a crowd pleasing flash movie. Trying to distill what makes something good into a formula kind of takes the soul out of it, in my opinion. If you feel strongly about something and it drives you to make it well, people will respond favorably (for the most part).
Learn what you can from the movies that you like, but make your movie yours, make it unique.
That is my opinion on the matter, anyway.
Good luck. :)
Not a problem. There are no stupid questions, right? Everyone has to start somewhere. ;)
Oh! I know this one! Yay!
You need to put quotes around the name of the scene:
on (release) {
gotoAndStop("Scene 1",1);
}
Does that do it?

It was a good movie and I'm sure you'll be getting awards before you know it.

Dull, I was trying to come up with that word, but when I couldn't I decided to skip describing the vacant look.
Well, nicely done then. ^_^

I think that looks really nice, I particularly like the way you handled the hand and the mouth area. Though, you might want to add a bit more detail around the eyes and some reflections in them for realism.
Other than that, very well done.

Cool, yeah I've never done the transferring of a photograph into a personal work of art, but I've seen various techniques (grids, tracing, etc.), eyeballing it is clearly the most difficult. That is some really impressive work. Good job, the coloring looks sort of like an acrylic painting, I dig it!
Wow, AGH, that's incredibly nice.
If you don't mind my asking, how do you refrence your photographs against your drawing?

I liked it quite a bit. That 'fear' sense was well represented.
Art isn't confined to drawing is it?

Write a review of it then. You are welcome to an opinion, and I like to know what people like and don't like about my movies. But put it somewhere more relevant.
It's really not the point of this thread... StealthBeast is trying to give some encouragement and advice to new talent. There is no need or point to putting possibly inflammitory, off topic posts here.
Here's a silly little .swf thing I made awhile ago (may induce vertigo):

They have a bunch of animated sprites at the Game Sprites Archive. Try that.

Sounds good, I'm excited about the movie already -PrimeMinisterCook-.
Here's another contribution to the thread:

Just sketched this up. The robot won't be this detailed in the flash though. And I'll try put up a bigger image in a bit.
Cool robot! Want to divulge which story your flash will be based on?
...or is that a secret?
Anyway, looks like it should be a good movie.
^_^
First of all;
StealthBeast, your post is useful and I hope a lot more people see it so that they will keep trying and not get discouraged.
Second:
buster-kun, flattery will get you a lot of things in this world, but that is much too much! Ha ha... It did give me a bit of a laugh though. I can't really help you out with your Flash problem, other than downloading the trial and buying the student version if you like what you see. I'd really like to keep my law-breaking to a minimum these days, and would like to encourage impressionable teenagers to do the same. ;)
Here is another one I did this afternoon for no real reason...
Thank you AGH and MethodMinus, you made my day.

Me? Thanks! :)
Well since I've been following this thread for awhile now I figured it would only be polite to post a pic...
It's not from any animation or anything, just something I whipped up in flash a bit ago...
Well, tweens (from what I can tell) tend to eat up your rescources, especially when it has to calculate ease and that kind of thing.
Here are some rudimentary examples I've just whipped up of to illustrate (I hope) my question:
All tweened.
Main timeline broken into keyframes.
All tweens broken into keyframes.
Completely broken down to base level.
..Note that these have nothing to do with my project, it's just some ugly thing I threw together..
Anyway they all lag for me, the totally broken down one seems to lag the least, but they all use up 100% of my processor just to view.
So I'm just wondering if anyone know a better approach or the answer to my question.
