Look at me linking to Kraig's Valentine post.

The point is that "adult" content and mature but not necessarily pornographic content are not the same, even from the point of U.S law. The problem here stems from people seeing idle nudity as porn / adult content, when the legal and technical definitions of "adult-only" features make it clear that nudity alone is not grounds for labeling something as "adult". I'm all for making it harder to accidentally access the real adult stuff, but most of the people complaining about said "adult" stuff think the definition of adult includes something it doesn't, and never did (read: Idle nudity). That's the bit I don't like; nothing more.
I don't believe that the OP was referring to nudity as adult content. If he was, I apologize, but I didn't see that anywhere in his post. He was complaining about specific pieces of very adult art, not idle nudity, at least that was the impression I got.
This was frontpaged just over 6 months ago, and is easily worse than most of the old hentai ads put together. They might be lessening the adult tone, but it'll never be truly gone; it's just too much of a founding feature to do away with for the sake of political correctness.
No, I will (hopefully) always see NG as a bastion for free expression and that includes allowing and showcasing things that are outside of mainstream sensibilities. I'm just saying that they have been trying to steer away from the image of a place for deviants to a place for everyone.
I disagree with that assessment, winning hearts and minds of the population is just as important as winning battles, if a country at war that believes that their side is just and in the right then they have to be seen by noncombatants/the civilian population as acting ethically and morally. If they are seen as killing indiscriminately, torturing, using poisonous gases or other outlawed warfare practices they will not be seen by the population as fighting for them they will be seen as just as bad or worse than the enemy combatants.

Exactly, the question was rhetorical though. =P
I'm kind of amazed that this suggestion has been met with so much hostility. The way I understand it, from posts in the art forum, is that Tom and co. are actively trying to promote art that is not adult related and, moreover, hide the adult related content from being so easily accessible. It just makes sense.
Also 13 is not 18-21 or so. Yes you need to be 13 to create an account on Newgrounds, however, legally, one of such age is still prohibited from viewing pornographic materials.
Finally; if no one has noticed, Newgrounds has been actively trying to get away from being as adult oriented as it has been in the past. When was the last time there was a porn or hentai ad banner on the site?

Not trying to be a pedant, but it was a modified version of the original Quake engine that became the GoldSource Engine for the Half-Life games.
That is an excellent question.
I, personally, don't know, but I'm sure, with some research, you could find out clothing lines that are made in countries with decent labor laws and human rights. It wouldn't be a perfect list as I know that here in the US there are still sweatshops under the radar, but it might be a good jumping off point...
Good luck, I hope that you share what you find.
Doubtful.
I know a lot of Newgrounders like to act like sociopaths or say/believe that they have some kind of severe mental imbalance, but, realistically, it's estimated that only about 1-2% of the population at large is sociopathic.
I have to say that I somewhat agree, adult rated content, when you visit the Art Portal's landing page or any user page is accessible, there is no way to turn it on or off at that point. 13 is not 18, and there should be some sort of safeguards preventing adult rated content from showing up for those that do not wish to see it.
I've been interested in polyphasic sleep for quite awhile now, especially given that I have a lot of trouble keeping a monophasic sleep schedule in the first place. I have, however, never been able to try the uberman sleep schedule (imo, they should sell uberman alarm clocks that notify you when to sleep and when to wake, no alarm clock has 8 different alarms that I know of).
Thanks for the link, I'll have to read about the experience.
They say we fear the unknown, but do we really?
Isn't it the possibilities running rampant through our minds that truly frighten us?

It's still one of the most valuable cash crops in the world, it's just not being grown legally in most places.
"That shit's not addictive, maaaan."
Less addictive than tobacco or alcohol, perhaps, but it's still an addictive substance.
There are reasons why it should be decriminalized, imo, but making shit up isn't helping your cause.

Yeah but elevators are common every day things, the super natural is not.
Thus, they are very different things, if you are to put in perspective.
Elevators are to the supernatural as horses are to unicorns.
Elevators breaking down, falling or locking on a person are rather uncommon things to happen, the fear is mostly unfounded. All I'm saying is that people have fears and it's easier to capitalize fears that people have then fears that they do not.
Many people have a fear of elevators breaking down, falling, or locking on them, those are relatively common fears. You might as well ask: "why do so many games and movies rely on the supernatural to provoke fear in the audience." Because many people have a fear of the supernatural and thus it is a fairly easy jump to try to scare them with a supernatural premise.

They're both great franchises and id is one of the most important and revolutionary developer in PC gaming.
I don't think Quake IV enters into the equation though, because it was developed not by id but by Raven.
I really hope that the next game in the Quake franchise, provided they make another one sometime after DOOM 4, returns the series to the uneasy tension between clunky, retro, military technology and the supernatural, Lovecraft inspired mythos of the first game.
