Oh, now that I´ve got to post here, just a question: When I saw your contribution to the C.A.P. #2, I immediatly thought of a King Of Fighters character. I can´t remember her name ´cause she wasn´t a playable character... (Well, I´m talking about the swordgirl who appears with Kula Diamond, just in case somebody´s wondering.). Was it coincidential?
Oh, and I haven´t seen your second movie yet... (Did you notice that Mouse Over had a review of mine?). I´ll watch it when I have the time.
Finally... I hope you stay here for a long time. Congrats and stay sharp.

Hey, M-F-Ringer, Don´t dis the magazines just like that. They´re not any sort of porno comics, The "Adult" of the ´80´s was just some oldschool blood´n´boobie mix. In my times, that were the comics that the cool teens bought and bragged about with the Marvel superhero readers. Nowadays, those people haven´t seem to have grown a bit, but that´s another story. What I´m trying to tell you is that in the days of Californication on TV, Manga being a big hit in the stores and Hard-boiled, soap-opera and Best-seller novel-like comics disguised as Super-Hero books... There´s really no point of scandalizing at those stories, honestly.

Cartoon Chicks Rule. Betty Boop is for me what Betty Page is for Pin-up lovers. Someday I will pay her a proper homage (Or I´m doing it already?). Browsing your first pages I recognized Mazinger-Z... Now I know why do you have Dr. Hell as your icon. Why don´t you try to draw him? I´m sure you could make him look more hellish.
Your last submission is neat, but I´d like to see some people on it.

Hey PrinceFlea..., I wanted to ask you something. In your post of the 8/16/07, in the first page... That girl looked like a mix of Betty Boop and Danger Lady... Can you tell me more about this?

I wouldn´t worry so much about it, because that "flat" composition combined with the color choice and the faceless heads gives it an arty feeling. It looks like a mural of a fitness center built in the ´80´s.
Anyway, if you want to go serious about improving your figures, I´d suggest you to start practising to build your figures using basic shapes. That´s the method that almost every learn-how-to-draw book are using. I highly suggest you the Loomis one I told you before. But there´s a drawback to this method, if you´re not going to ink your drawings, is almost impossible to erase the extra lines.
You seem to be really inspired when depicting Nintendo characters... I loved that you have drawn Daisy in the Donkey Kong outfit. Yeah, she looks like a chubby slut, but it´s adorable. Make more girls like that. (Hey, why don´t you try Ice Climber next?).
Whoa... I´ll have to go brief on the rest...
Captain-Ben, way to go. Fancy that floating crown.
Flap-Doodlez, you´re the man who lives up the good-old tradition of oldschool doodling. Bring them all right here.
Draconian-Spirit... How did you made it to not getting caught in that one?. I first thought that you traced the Eldest cover... Anyway it´s nice, but I´ve seen you´ve uploaded that image like three times or so. Be careful with that, girl. Hope to see more of you here.

I´ve had lots of problems with this, so I thought the deadline had passed and gave up on it... But after that, I gave full priority to this and I got determined to finish it at all costs.
Yeah, if I´d drawn one of my usual cuties I would have finished much earlier, but NOOOOOOO, I felt like repeating myself and wanted to make something that I would never have done before. So I tried a first idea, no success, gave up, tried again with something different, even worse outcome. And I finally went back to my original idea. Mildy satisfied, I finished a rough which I couldn´t scan. So I was fucked. Then, an idea: I made a photo of my notebook, and used it to vector it. And then I thought: "Why if I don´t use curves...? I´ll use straight lines only!".
And that´s the story. Sorry for keep you waiting sooo long, especially if you don´t like it.

One more thing... What kind of place is it supposed to be placed on? Looks like some sort of music store. Unless you´ve got an unhealthy fetish desire for electric guitars, the sexy element is missing. Next time, remember that we´re going for that "Red Lights" district look.
The tubes seem nicely drawn, though. You should´ve commented on how you made it.
Anyway, thanks for taking the effort to post here. I found your submission very inspiring... your efforts won´t go unrewarded.
Ok... Now, let´s talk about this pic. Originally, it was called "Cheeky Chicks", that´s why her buttocks are so round and prominent. The idea was to animate a hand spanking her or something like that... but the display design really gave a hard time. Why? Because it didn´t come out at first, so I had to make many sketches and, in the end, I only drew the girl figure on the rough. So I had to improvise on the screen... I made this shading that gave her a pinky look to her skin, and that´s how the design took shape at last. Thank God I´m quite satisfied with the result, after all... but I´d have liked a little more contrast between the on/off states of the animation. But I want to finish it now, and start another. I have to try and produce them in a more regular pace.
´k, I´m done. Hope you like it.

This was 15 min., no eraser. So, as I told you before, it´s completely raw.
I found this on the floor last week, and I remembered this thread.
It is a tiny piece of paper, used by both sides. Apparently, its owner folded the picture and then tore it apart in small square pieces...
... and then some guy took one from the wet, dirty ground and uploaded it to the newgrounds.
Life can be so strange.
(P.D: It´s strange how the two pictures almost fit as part of the same picture. But that´s impossible, because both were drawn on the same piece of paper, one on each side. Funny, don´t you think so?)

That really have made me post one more time because people have been posting submissions that are best suited for the Create-A-Superhero thread...
Why don´t we all use this thread for comic book superheroes only? That way we wouldn´t have two identical threads in the Forum. Just do it for the sake of bandwidth...

Bingo, it´s DevilMan. I think Nagai is working more as producer and distributer than making comics now.
You know, that´s the type of comments I like... When people recognize a character and say "Hey, isn´t that...?". Feel like I´m among mateys.
So who or what particular was your drawing style influenced by anywhy? It always seems to be changing over time periodicly spawning from different looks. I simply don't know how you make your doodles just so clean and smooth aswell as to different thoughts.
Being honest, manga has been the most influent trend on my style. The first artist I wanted to copy from was Johji Manabe(Outlanders,Caravan Kidd,etc...) But I´ve read lots of comics of all sorts, and I´ve been always fascinated on the relationship about drawing style and storytelling. That´s why I tried all sorts of stuff in my drawings... And I still doing so.
Anyway, I want to recall you that, except when mentioned, almost all of my submissions in this thread are from almost ten years ago, when I was in the university. Notice that little Cloud from FF VII? Well, the PlayStation controller he´s holding is not a Dual Shock... I think that´s pretty explanatory about when those doodles were made.
Ah, and I haven´t forgot your comment on my userpage. I´ve been busy, just give some more time.
Well, more posting of my old stuff. As usual, hope you enjoy them.
Haha... Goddam, you´ve really hide very well her gender... But... don´t you have more recent drawings of her? I´d like to see how the design would´ve evolved.
Well... some of you may already know the story behind my Punisher submission... I´ve continued making some superhero avatars since then, and I think this is an appropiate thread to post them.
The first one is a DC character that my brother has cherished since he popped out back in the early 90´s... Do you remember him? Ehm... Maybe you didn´t know him in the first place... It´s okay we´ll play the game of "Who´s the Mystery Man" until my next post (That´ll be tomorrow, or the following day). And, no he is not Spider-man 2099. No, he isn´t Doom 2099 either!
Ok, no more chit-chatting... meet the man who stalks the world´s most dangerous game!!!

There has passed a while since the last time anybody post here... It´s time to upload my old scribblings again. Hope you enjoy, as always.
Didn´t know about this thread... I find the exercise proposed by MindChamber highly interesting... I´m determined to take it seriously and try to make this type of quick sketches more often. I´ve always been afraid of facing my own failures, thus, I used the rubber a lot, and now, it often takes me ages to sketch a simple drawing.
Well, NOT ANYMORE.
It´s time to look at my own level face front. Here´s the first rough of my personal ordeal for improvement. I´ll continue making similar pics for a while, then I´ll study a little bit more some academic drawing, and finally, I´ll try it again to see what happens. Will I improve something? Only time will tell.
(Changing the subject, Balgaron´s submissions here are the ones which I like most from him, I hope to see more of them.)
It´s unclear to me if it fitted the 15 minutes or not, but I´m sure it didn´t took me more than 20. And I passed some time remarking the final lines to scan it properly. I build the figure using lines and shapes, but it´s difficult to see them now.
Here you have it. Absolutly raw. No eraser, all lines and mistakes shown.
And now, the second installment.
Hey, I´m not neglecting them... It´s only that the only way that those little bastards learn anything is to make them do LOTS of exercises... Which I prepare first in my home. So think it as a way of bringing back my lost time. Made on pieces of paper or the margins of my notebook.
Hope you enjoy them.

Hmm... I think it´s time to get serious here...
When I say that I like something, I like it. Don´t think too much about it. Have you ever seen a contemporary art gallery? Most of the pictures there can´t be considered as technically (or anatomically, if human figures) "correct". There other values apart from that .
There is an art trend called "Hyperrealism" (I don´t know the proper english term, sorry.) that intends to portrait reality beyond of what the eye can see. Your latest submission reminded me a lot of that.
Of course you have to improve a lot in other aspects, but you´re still very young, you have a lot of time left to learn how to draw in tha art school style! What I am trying to state is that you have somthing very distinctive and personal and I´m afraid you could ditch it because it´s not "good drawing".
You have a strong point. treasure it, becuase one day, you could have to make use of it.
I hope this time I were able to make me understood.
And here it is, the final product.
This time is a neon-only banner, no light-ups. As I said in the previous post, I found really interesting the way shapes are displayed with tubes in this one, so I decided to go in that direction.
Before going to the Photoshop stage, I decided to have a look at some tutorials about making the tubes to try to improve and fix my technique... I realized that most of them made the thing very similar to the way I was already making it... But it was not for nothing, I learned some things about actual tube design that I have applied to this submission.
Well, with all this in mind I tried to use a different and simplier method of making the tubes and I´m going to tell you about it. Like a sort of mini-tut...
- The tubes have been drawn on a vector-based program. Two hints about it: Make the lines thick and set the endings of the lines and the corners to Round (I forgot to make the corners round in the Original Inn, and look at it. I didn´t notice until I uploaded... I got really angry.)
The tubes also have a start and an end to them. So, if you make close shapes like circles or squares, break them with a small gap.
Also, the tubes can be quite long, but they seem to be not very short... Try to get the most of each tube.
- Now for the main part... Import the tube traces to Photoshop. Make sure there´s no background in the same layer of the tubes. Now, with the layer selected, go to Layers>Layer Styles>Bevel and Emboss.
If Inner Bevel doesn´t appear by default, set to it now. In the Shadow box, change the angle to 90º (I use 45 of Height, but try it as you like.) Change the opacity of Highlight and Shadow to 15%.
- It´s time to separate the tubes in different layers according to two criteria: Time and Color. Different color, different layer. If there are tubes of the same color but they turn on/off at a different time, you´ll have to separate them in different layers, but in this case, you can do it after making the on/off states.
- Now we have the tubes ready to turn them on. I you´re going to make animated blinking lights, you´ll have to duplicate the layers of that tubes in order to make the two states of them.If not just go on with the "On" state.
Go to the Layer Styles box (On the Layer tab or clicking twice in a previous Layer Effect on the Layer window) and enter the following settings:
>For the "On" State:
- Inner Glow: White
- Outer Glow: Similar color to the tube. I use the web-safe palette and choose a slightly brighter tone.
- Bevel and Emboss: Don´t change anything.
>For the "Off" State:
- Bevel and Emboss: Change the Shadow Opacity to 75%
- Color Overlay (Under Bevel and Emboss and Satin.): Black color. Opacity set to 55%... I change the Fusion mode to Darken, but I don´t really see much difference from Normal... Just in case.
- Parallel Shadow: If the angle by default is not the same as the one you used in Bevel and Emboss (90%) set it like that.
Well, if you don´t use animations, it´s over... If you do, just go to Imageready and make frames, switching the visibility of the "on/off" layers of the tubes you want to blink... I think 0,5 seconds is allright for a neon blink.
About optimizing... I suggest you to reduce the size of the image. Don´t make too many frames, beware with using tubes of many different colors (they are gradients, so they will use up many colors of your palette. I´ve used 7 this time, so I´m afraid it´ll look like crap.) Try to use 128 colors instead of 256 if you´re still exceeding the filesize, and if all that fails, use the Loss tab in the Optimize window (If you have to set it over 10, i´d suggest you to make major changes in your design or try harder in my other advices...)
Try to get the image as smooth as possible because when uploading, the quality will surely drop if it wasn´t very high.
Well, it´s over... These words are not carved in stone, experiment and make comments if you find something interesting (In last minute I decided to include an extra black layer with the opacity to 35% to darken the board and the tubes.). As my Photoshop is in Spanish, some terms may differ, correct them if you find something. I´m using layer styles only to keep it easy and simple, but I used Gaussian Blur before for making bigger, controlled halos and things like that. I´ve made this to encourage you to use it and post some more pictures here (Although there´s not necessary to use neon in your banners... my latest didn´t have any of them.)
Anyway... Enjoy it!
Well, once again I had to ditch another picture. It´s the second one... At this rate, I´ll have to add the "Gallery of the Rejected" to my upcoming "Gallery of Failures"... It was a good idea, but I feel the picture was not really going as well as expected, so I´ll redo it with a different picture. Sorry for the delay.
Meanwhile... I had to go on to my next picture. This time it´s based in another real-life sign, the "Dani´s Show", located near the city centre of León. I´ve only been able to watch it by day, so I don´t really know what it´ll look like turned on. I know that there´s a tree covering part of it in the photo, but believe me, you´re not missing anything. Don´t you think the white background is sort of n00bish?
When I made the preliminary sketch, I found very interesting the way how the tubes are twisted and displayed to form the shape of the girl... some of them are cleverly designed... while others really don´t make sense. Have a look. I liked the detail of the strand of hair covering the nipple, it´s a pity I had to ditch it from the final design...
Note the bilingual little sign. I´ve only seen those in touristical coast cities... This leaves no doubt about the sort of place this is.
But the one next to it... "Ben-Hur"... Judah Ben-Hur?! WTF?! That doesn´t sound straight to me... Maybe the local is under new management and they decided to run it in a "different" way...? If so, they´ll have to change the neon board...

Thanks for the comments Joe!
I love your work, crisp lines and color, and those stylized feet. I've been trying out that "chibi" style for your "Lewd Cathouse Banners" thread but it's giving me a hard time.
Whoa... Man, that´s a lotta wang. And, by the face it shows, it seems to be peeing red, too. It´s no surprise they´d gone extinct, They were able to make circumcisions, but they couldn´t invent the loo... No wonder why Savage was so interested in you to show it to us...
I´m sorry to hear that about the sign. It´s a pity because I consider your regular style well suited to make a banner of such characteristics, and nowadays you can even print gradients on the light-ups...(But the ones I´ve seen look like crap, so I don´t suggest them.) Still, I have some hope to seeing it in the future...
Keep up the good work.
