but it has colours, and finished, and quite clean might i add, line art, why leave the hardest bits till last, hands are hard, and if you cant get it right, your gunna have to redo the whole arm to position the hand how you can draw it, i do it all the time, its a pain

we have a collab forum thread now, to drum up extra participation

that is all
[Art] Pixel Poster Collab Posted April 6th, 2011 in Collaboration

The Idea
just under a year ago, Charlie started the pixel poster collab, it got off to a great start, got a fair few submissions then sort of fizzled out and never saw completion, my aim is to get this done

What you can do
theres 2 things you can do for this collab
make people to populate this pixel cityscape, for this there is a few templates you can use
Hand down
Hand up
Both down
Both up

or

you can make isometric buildings/scenery for this collab, size should be proportionate to the people so keep that in mind, heres an isometric grid to help out, and heres a huge one, light source should be from the top left to fit with the rest from the old thread

-all work must be your own
-post work here, and link to a higher quality version in the dumping ground if necessary
-PNG would be the best bet for high quality, with transparency on
-if not jpg or gif at full quality in the dump
-pixel art can be done in any program, photoshop is the binary brush, flash has a plugin for it, or even ms paint
-graphicsgale would be the best free option

the work will be compiled into a flash poster, similiar to this

Deadline somewhere after pico day, since iv already got a few submissions but need more

heres the art forum thread that i started a few weeks earlier

considering the professional original artist fucked it up, ill ignore that and let it slide, but really.....thats a fail.....

also, your drawing from reference, use the reference as much as you possibly can then

get a film grain texture from somewhere, cgtextures may have some, set it to multiply or overlay, each is different slightly choose which one you want, then mess about with the transparency/alpha of that texture, for flash, making the texture a movie clip would probably help and make it easier to do these modifications

we're all terrible people

especially you kinsei

and we should make an effort to welcome new users, regardless of artistic ability

especially you kinsei

if people want to showcase their art why should they be treated differently because of their quality, or the arts content, we're an art community to try and help and improve peoples art, not flame bad, and mindlessly praise good, i see mindless praise more than flaming and trolling, and it annoys me more

tl;dr i hate mindless praise with no criticism more than flaming

meh, it's a little dull. The pixelated lighting isn't helping.
Well in my opnion the lightning sounded much more realistic pixelated then vectors, because generally the Flash vectors in .jpg looks a bit unreal or fake. Having it pixelated gave it much more atmosphere in my opnion.

no it doesnt, it looks pixelated and bad and more fake than if youd used vectors, also the clouds are pixelated....and bad, and most of the picture has bad jpg artifacts

isometric grid in the first post, just follow that, and use the people template as a size measure, and you cant go wrong, anything will do, simplicity works :D

One thing I've always wanted to learn how to do is give entire pieces a kind of soft texture, like the one present in this piece. How exactly does one go about doing such a thing?

overlay or multiply, and making the overlay/multiply very transparent so its not too prominent, grayscaling the texture helps aswell so it doesnt add any unwanted colour to the piece, i use that technique quite a bit, adds that little something to a boring piece

Response to: I don't get it.. Posted April 3rd, 2011 in Art

learn how to use flash or photoshop, and youll figure out the technique to it pretty fast, everyone has different ways, failing that, go look up some tutorials

on a side note, starting the thread of with an anthro piece probably wasnt the wisest decision, newgrounds isnt known for being the best lovers of that, and being open to new things, and you just brought the trolls down on yourself D: haters gunna hate
