It's a common interjection that someone makes when they are talking about celebrities or a lotery winner. Well, it may seem clever to try to disprove this old addage, but it's true.

Money does not buy happiness, money buys pleasure. Things like fancy food, or a big house don't make you happy, they just give you pelasure by removing minor pains in your life. Physical pleasure does not mean you will have mental happiness.

In this time of a sky-rocketing standard of living, it shines true more than ever. People may be buying millions of games, electronics, or other gadgets. But, people are also seeing psychiatrists in record numbers. We buy pills and self help books to make us happy.

When you punish someone, what exactly are you trying to accomplish? In most cases, the answer is reforment. You punish people in oreder to show them that what they did was wrong, and when you do this act, bad things will happen.

So why would you kill someone for committing a crime, regardless of how vile it is? How would killing someone show that what they did was wrong? If anything, it's a "Get Out of Jail Free" card. The person learned nothing, and even if they do repent it's ignored.

It offers no justice to the victims of the crime. How would a murderer receiving a quiet painless death make the families happy? If anything, wouldn't life in a prison be a worse punishment for the criminal, thus delivering more justice?

It's true, some people can't function in society. But why kill them? Seprating them from the rest of the world should be enough, right?

Death is no punishment.
