Hehe... If we're gonna talk lego, then I ought to post. This here was a massive airplane I built entirely out of legos. It took me about 2 weeks, and it's still standing today.

Man, we should have an official lego art thread...

Yeah, it's been a little while, but I'm back with a new comic. I tried to make the humor more universal and less childish... In retrospect, I guess I should have used black outlines, because brown just makes it all muddy looking; but I was experimenting to see which is best... Questions? Comments?

Forum: Art

Maybe Zac-Donald should stop being such a Wacom Cintiq fanboy. I understand that they're amazing and out of our reach, but is it really necessary to brag about it all the time. Besides, an Intuos 3 is just as good. It's not the tools that make the artist, it's the artist's skill. I've seen some amazing artists use basic tablets like the Wacom Bamboo to create incredible stuff. To the OP: Good job for a first tablet drawing. If you're just beginning, I can't imagine what kind of stuff you'll be cranking out when you get the hang of the Intuos.

Posted: 06/22/08 12:31 AM

Forum: Art

Like everyone before said, make the blood darker. Right now, it has the consistency of raspberry jam. Also, blood flows almost like water, meaning it flows all around. From the picture, it looks like the blood's only flowing in one direction. (See picture below). By the way, did you do all of the blood effects yourself, or did you just modify a source picture?

IE sucks at almost everything besides failure. It can't render pages properly, and it crashes quite often, not to mention it's easily hacked. Opera is okay, but I don't really like the interface. I use it at school, though, because they block Firefox from accessing the internet. Safari is okay, but it doesn't have too many add-ons. I prefer Firefox because of its extensibility, and because it has a web-developer plugin.

When I'm not on my home computer, I use either TextWrangler (Mac) or Notepad++ (Windows). When I'm on my home computer, I prefer Dreamweaver 8, because of the syntax highlighting, checking, formatting, and the ability to automatically put and get files from a server without having to use a separate FTP program.

The humour is a little stale, but hey, everyone knows its better to stay in tried and tested territory for a first comic, rather than try something off the wall and completely new.

I look forward to seeing more of your work. :)

When I was making this comic, I was having a sort of writer's block, but now I have a ton of ideas, which should make the comic entertaining without resorting to childish, fanboyish humor. The artwork is going to get better, along with the humor. Besides, look at the first comics of all the other good webcomics, nobody made epic comics on their first tries.

Posted: 06/18/08 05:06 PM

Check MIME types, and never trust anybody. This is the internet, you know. A person who says that they're harmless could be hacker, or worse... By the way, I tried uploading something, and here's what I got.

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /www/110mb.com/f/l/a/s/h/u/p/_/flashup/htdocs/uploader.php on line 69

How about making the script work before releasing it into beta? Beta means it's partially functional. Your site is still at the alpha stage, I'd say.

My thoughts exactly. Dells suck, and it's pretty much a fact. Only cheapskates/schools buy Dells. You could always call tech support and talk to some Indian guy who barely speaks English, but I doubt that will solve your problem. Chances are, your RAM is either improperly installed, or just busted.

My intuos3 won't even work with vista - even with the "vista" driver from their site.

Case closed. Basically, you have only two options. Sell your current tablet and buy a new, "Vista" compatible one, or downgrade to XP, with which all of your hardware should work.

In Photoshop, did you enable pressure sensitivity? It won't work unless you go and turn on "shape dynamics" under the brush options. Also, did you install the tablet drivers? Try updating the drivers/re-installing the drivers. Which version of Photoshop? Which OS? Which Wacom tablet? If you need specific help, you've got to give more information.

The NG Forum is custom written, and the ability to move posts was simply not put in, due to the complexities and time required to make that possible. Updating and editing might also be abused, so it could have been left out intentionally.

Try using layers. They won't mess up the linework. There's just so much you can improve on. The anatomy is way off, as are the proportions. The guy-type thing looks really messed up, and the colors just don't go together well. Do you know how to draw in real life? If you can't draw in real life, then it's pointless for you to try digital drawing.

How is the skull not drawn accuratly? The cheekbones may be a bit high or something but thats kinda how ive always drawn skulls.

I don't recommend Corel Painter for comic drawing. For what you're doing, either Photoshop or Manga Studio EX would be good. Manga Studio is the cheaper one, $49 for the Basic version, and $299 for the pro version. I also highly recommend Photoshop, which costs $799.
