Though it doesn't look very realistic to me. All the monsters look quite cartoony.

Well the game's not out yet. They have plenty of time to refine everything.

On the graphics, these graphics aren't incredible or anything. But the Wii can't do realistic graphics well. Practically the only games I can say look 'good' on the Wii use a cartoony, or a cel-shaded style.

What I'm hoping for this game is that they'll put some emphasis on the story. Twilight Princess was a step in the right direction but it was nowhere near on the level of what I have come to expect from a good modern video game story.

There's also something else you have to remember:

Almost every game that is well written by video game standards is poorly written by film standards. If you try to scratch the surface of almost any game script in terms of its themes you're really not going to find much.

There may be a few exceptions, but I can't really think of any at the moment. I was going to offer Braid as an example of depth, but then I remembered I couldn't offer it as an example of good writing.

Even if they're not getting a Charlie Kaufman or a Coen Brothers to write their game, it's great that they are taking steps towards trying to get their writing on the level of films.

I have no idea if Andy Serkis is a good director or not, though. But hey, I don't think I've ever been amazed by the direction in any game's cutscenes. But he is a great actor, and is playing the main character (and sounding like Ron Perlman apparently). Andy Serkis hamming it up was probably the best thing about Heavenly Sword.

It falls apart in the third act, but other than that I think it's solid enough.

And 28 Days Later was well-written.

Apparently there was a shitload of people using infrared devices in that theatre, and that interfered with the motion detecting.

'Violence is good'?

This is Nintendo we're talking about there. It's going to be as violent as all the other Zelda games.

-The monsters looked stupid with cel-shading. I think cel-shading worked with the toon Link, but with the more adult Link, cel-shading makes it look unnatural and a strain on who the audience is: more mature audiences like those who liked TP, or a younger audience who liked WW?

Or possibly the audience that liked both of those games. Which would be the majority of Zelda fans.

-The fact that you use the Nunchuk to use the shield. There's only so much you can do, and in other Wii games, the Nunchuk is pretty darn unresponsive. Plus, with the Wii as the sword, is this goodbye to a left-handed Link?

According to previews the motion control as a whole is amazing. And yes it appears Link is now right handed.

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West Posted June 16th, 2010 in Video Games

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is the newest game from Ninja Theory, the developers of Heavenly Sword. It's one of the games that I am the most excited about. And it's in development for the PS3, and the Xbox 360.

It is an action game where you control a character called 'Monkey', in a story inspired by the Chinese epic 'Journey to the West'. Some of you will be to some degree familiar with this story through DragonBall. At some point I guess the characters get enslaved. There is also another female character, whom I suppose you have to protect as when she dies, you die. There are robots involved.

It's set in a post-apocalyptic world, but it's not a barren, Fallout-style one. It's a world where the trees have taken over, and everything is overflowing with colour.

E3 2010 Trailer

What really intrigues me about the game is the emphasis on story. They got a Hollywood screenwriter, Alex Garland (the writer of Sunshine and 28 Days Later) to write the game. He's a good writer, so I'm hoping that will translate to a good game story.

It's being directed by Andy Serkis, an actor probably best known for playing Gollum in The Lord of the Rings, who also directed the cutscenes in Heavenly Sword (and played King Bohan). And from what I can tell, the voice acting seems good. I believe Andy Serkis is playing Monkey, and he's great.

The game also appears to have platforming involved.

I'm making my way through Ouran, and I'm going off and on about liking it. I think Haruhi is a little bit interesting as a man character, but Tamaki gets quite annoying to watch. I'm still not into the over exaggerated anime movements.

Well, to put it in perspective:

Typing out an unmarked spoiler, and then adding 'lol spoilers' is a pretty clear example of 'being a dick'.

Also, from the rules page : "If you're about to make a post that you're not sure is OK, whether covered by the rules or not, don't."

I have no problem with that. Cole wasn't exactly a great character design, and his three pack a day for thirty years voice was so bizarrely out of place in a delivery boy.

The new design isn't really any better, but it's not any worse. The voice acting seems a little less ridiculous, though.

Second: They gave him ice related powers. what the fuck, How does electricity evolve into ice?

It's all they could do, really. They already basically did everything they could with electricity in the first game. So unless you wanted a rehash of all the powers from the first game, they had to mix it up a little.

Third: No fucking gameplay trailers! All they did was show like 30 seconds of a trailer, showing that cole sounds like alex mercer, if he were gay.

That's mildly disappointing, but I'm not all that bothered about it. I'm sure gameplay trailers will come sometime soon.

Now I don't play MMOs because they're extremely boring, and my laptop would not be able to run that.

But if I were to want to play an MMO, that would almost certainly be the one I'd choose.

Although the stigma of playing not only an online RPG, but a Star Wars online RPG may be a little too much. That's like double nerd.

I wish Bioware would have just made another Knights of the Old Republic instead.
