Joining the Hitler Youth was mandatory in Germany at the time. It's not really something you can hold against him.

2 is.

3 isn't. 3 is basically just the final dungeon.

Just downloaded and played the demo of this game on the PS3.

It's a very exciting demo. The game looks quite promising.

The gameplay seems a reasonable bit like the 2008 Prince of Persia. Only better, with more exciting set pieces, and with a much more interesting setting. Also Andy Serkis doing some bizarre voice, which is awesome.

Response to: Are Video Games Art? Posted September 17th, 2010 in Video Games

Most people that think video games are not art think so because they are made largely through programming.

They think that this disqualifies them from being art because other forms of art do not require programming. You do not program a painting. You do not program a book.

Some people find it difficult to accept an entirely new art form, distinct from all other forms of art.

But honestly, I have no problem with restricting the sale of violent video games (and films) to those over eighteen. It works fine over here. It gives kids something to look forward to.

Plus I like the possible outcome of American video game developers toning down the violence of their games. But that's just because I think the ultra-violence in video games is dull and puerile (how ironic).

When do kids ever go into video game shops and buy games themselves anyway? Kids don't have money.

Response to: Kotick to sell you VG cutscenes Posted September 16th, 2010 in Video Games

I don't get it.

Wouldn't the only people who would possibly consider buying the 'movie', be buying the game anyway? And wouldn't they be able to see those cutscenes through the game and thus not need the movie?

Why would anyone want to buy the cutscenes separately? I don't think I've ever seen a game that has cutscenes that would be good enough to stand alone without the gameplay associated. Stringing them together would just be like a bad movie with terrible CGI.

And he really doesn't seem to understand the film industry. If film makers could make as much money as he thinks they could by bypassing the theatres, then they would do it. This guy isn't smarter than the entire film industry.

And $20-30 for a movie? What the hell? That's 2-3 times more than a movie ticket, and you wouldn't even get the big screen. There are just so many things wrong with this idea it makes me angry that a guy like him could be successful.

As an aside, Starcraft II's cutscenes are not good enough to be a film. Hell, most of them are just static people talking to each other.

This is dumb.

A country of 130 million people can't lose its 'innovation and creativity' in the span of a decade. That's just ridiculous.

Japan is a collection of people, not some sort of bizarre hivemind that rises and falls as one single entity.

What I would have liked in the game would be fore the marriage thing to turn into a part of the game proper. In Fable 2 all marriage did was take away some of your money, and have a character nag you every time you went home. How about they take this concept, and turn it into a meaningful relationship with you as a gamer, rather than simply an implied relationship with the character in the game.

Like, say, you get married, and then you and your wife or husband can go around Albion and fight bad guys together, as a team. As you know, love can bloom everywhere; even on a battlefield. This would be an exciting application of the ability to marry characters.

When was the last time you saw a husband and wife (or husband and husband, or wife and wife) video game team? If you two had kids, they could just pop out in the middle of a battle, pick up a sword, and start chopping heads.

Then eventually you and your partner could storm the Albion countryside with an army of toddlers, fighting crime, or committing crimes. Whatever you choose.

This is the Fable I want made.

I once played Dungeons and Dragons when I was around 10 years old. It was at a holiday programme with a bunch of kids I didn't know. I didn't have a choice, but I wasn't protesting too much.

We got our characters by pulling a random card out of the box. I believe I was an elven princess. Or something along those lines. I know I was a woman. I took this well considering my age.

The dungeon master was not enthusiastic. He did not give us many options as to choose what to do. He just went on in monotone about how we were in a forest.

I rolled a 3, got killed by a pack of wolves, and left the game after about a quarter of an hour.

And that is my experience with Dungeons and Dragons.

Response to: Dinosaurs Had Huge Cocks Posted September 15th, 2010 in General

Actually, dinosaurs didn't have external penises at all. They most likely reproduced by a 'cloacal kiss'. The cloaca being the dinosaurs' single shared intestinal, urinary, and reproductive tract opening. The 'penis', if they even had one, would recede into the body if it were not being used.

The pornographic yaoi just seems like any other hentai, only with more dudes.

I've not read any non-pornographic yaoi, but I have read a non-pornographic yuri comic. It was an adorably depressing comic about a young girl struggling with her sexuality and her attraction to her (heterosexual) friend.

Your favourite critic seems to have the writing skills of a 15 year old fanboy. I didn't watch much of the video, but about half the words he used seemed to be 'suck(ed)(s)', 'crap', etc. I don't really care to hear angry people rant.

I'm not particularly interested in Final Fantasy XIV. I'm not an MMO fan. I just think grinding is boring. If I'm playing an RPG I expect some sort of interesting story to lead me along rather than simply the desire to be strong, but I've not seen such a game.

The new Bioware Star Wars MMO looked promising in that aspect, though.

But seriously. How angry can one guy get about an MMO demo?

Fuck.

My understanding of that decision is that you're not able to resell anything you import if somebody else holds the license to it in America.

The first sale doctrine states that after a thing is sold to somebody, the person that sold it no longer holds any right to control what happens to it after that. I.e. 'first sale'. This decision is saying that that doesn't apply to things bought outside of the US.

If nobody holds the license to the thing to be sold in America, then it's not an issue. Import and resell to your heart's desires.
